El Refugio is a beautiful, traditional Andalucian house built in 1989 by a famous Argentinian architect. It has been featured in 'House and Garden' (English) and in Spain in 'La Casa de Marie-Claire.'
It features a large double-cube drawing room, dining room, kitchen, three double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a single room with a WC and shower room. The house is constructed round a courtyard with a central fountain.
There are terraces for sitting in / sunbathing / eating areas on the East, South and West sides.
The pool is reached across a lawn of approximately 40 yards.
Fifty yards below the pool there is a separate cottage comprising a double bedroom (with kitchenette) and a bathroom, available at a small extra rental.
The house is at the top of a hill with beautiful views all around. It is set in fifty acres of olive grove and pine forest. The major mountain known as Sierra de Mijas is due south of the property and in full view of it.
Staff: A staff cottage is adjacent to the house. The couple who are in their early thirties will be delighted to look after you. He is a driver / gardener / handyman. She is an excellent housekeeper and cleaner, who can also be available as cook.
The house is 35km from Malaga Centre, 23km from the airport.
The nearest town is Alhaurin el Grande. Heading west it is 30 minutes from Marbella and 20 minutes from the coast at Cala de Mijas.
Alhuarin is about 2 km from the house along a very minor road so that there is no traffic around the house and Alhuarin has all modern shops including two supermarkets and several restaurants. Doctors, first-aid stations and vets are all available in the town.
