About Erica van Zutphen
From 15 June 2018 we are owner of this special House. In the Netherlands we rent 3 apartments in Zandvoort aan Zee, in Belgium, we have a holiday home at the river Ourthe at la Roche in the Ardennes and also we rent villas on the Costa Brava for third parties. We were looking for a place in the warmth where we can go on a regular basis but what also is nice to rent out. With the find of the "Secret House" It can't get better. It is already several years rented out ( see Tripadviser) and so far are all travellers are very enthusiastic.
Erica van Zutphen purchased this House in 2018
Why Erica van Zutphen chose Old Town
What could be nicer than a quiet place in a tourist city! After a day at the beach, the sea and the city you return on your private balcony with city views. On the patio you can laze with a book, a glass of wine, eat and recover from all the impressions that the city has left behind.
What makes this House unique
There are several cheap flights to Nice. From the airport you're in half an hour at the place of your destination: Rue de la Providence. Now even with the airport shuttle but they work hard on the new tram line. (end 2019). The weather is wonderful. Even in January we walked on the promenade without coat and we sat in a t-shirt on the beach.

The property met all expectations and more
Fun in the heart of Vieux Nice
Be prepared for climbing stairs, both inside and on the street. Once you make it inside - hopefully without cracking your head on the low ceiling in the stairs - you'll find the house is well equipped for cooking and for going to the beach. You can walk up the hill to the old castle site or down the hill to the beach and dozens of fine restaurants. A 15 minute walk in any direction is worth the time ! The locals are friendly and patient.
We found the floors to be rather dusty , and there aren't many surfaces other than the kitchen table for setting down your stuff. The AC units kept the kitchen and upper bedroom nicely cool in the summer heat, but the ground floor bedroom lacked good airflow.
A weekend in june
Absolutely lovely stay. House and facilities were exactly as described. Location was great. Beds very comfy.
Excellent location!! . May just add that for GPS it's easier to find Sainte Claire Plassa church.
Owner (Erica) made it super easy to get thorough the process. She was also accesible for all questions - even to help us get there turn by turn.
The property is beautiful and modern, beds are super comfortable, neighborhood is quite and two minutes away from restaurants, cafés, open markets!!! Awesome time in Nice.
If I could stay here forever.......
My friend and I stayed in this property for 6 nights. I can’t say how much I loved it. The pictures do not do the view justice, it was wonderful morning noon and night. It was almost tempting to stay there all day just relaxing. We have been traveling for 5 weeks and Erica’s property has been my favorite. But be warned about the stairs. There are lots. If you are able bodied it’s not a problem. On the 3rd day I fell while out in town and bashed my knee. I had to limp around Nice for rest of our stay and it wasn’t easy. But if you have to be stranded somewhere indoors there is no better place than the Secret House. I found the beds comfortable. Erica was very responsive at all times. Cynthia the house cleaner was great too. All in all a wonderful time. I’d stay there again in a minute.
Dear Ellen and friend, thank you for your nice words. Sorry to hear that you injured your knee. I hope it will be soon better. we wish you all the best and hope to see you back one time. Best regards, Erica
Fabulous house in great location!
We stayed here with friends for four nights. The property was easy to find, has great views and is located very well for shops, restaurants, beach etc.
The house is clean and well appointed, comfy beds, has air con, everything we needed for a short city break. There is plenty of information about both the house and the area. There was a coffe machine ( we didn't use it) salt/ pepper etc
There were three supermarkets within a five minute walk, bread shop opens at 7.30am just 2 mins away. Also fabulous butchers and fish market just two minutes away.
The beach and the market were an 8 minute walk away. Plenty of restaurants to choose from but some do need booking, we ate in Chez Acchiardo and Chez Palmyre, both very good.
As previous reviews have mentioned there are quite a few steps into and in the property so you may need to consider this. There is also a property being developed right next door but this did not affect us in the slightest.
We did have a friendly cute feline visitor who would have liked to have entered the property if he could have done!
This house is perfect for two couples as both bedrooms are en suite.
A great short break in Nice old town. I would thoroughly recommend the secret house.
The location of "the secret house" could not be better! Situated at the end of a UNESCO heritage site, not affected by traffic, noisy tourists and early garbage trucks.
But within minutes you find yourself in the little streets with a wide choice of local restaurants, small shops with all kinds of local products and cosy bars.
Everything what's fun to do and visit is within walking distance.
Cours Saleya: every day market (except Mondays) from 6 o'clock in the morning, the first stalls already put down. It's called the flower market but there is a lot more to buy , such as meat, fish, fruit, herbs, baguette and much more.
In high season (June to September) there is an arts and crafts market in the evening. On Monday – if there is no normal market you can find antique and brocante/trinkets
