Charming and cozy riverside cottage in Marco de Canaveses

This lovely and charming 15,000m2 river property, surrounded and nestled amid oak, chestnut, pine, and almond trees covered by ivy spilling over onto the hills going down to the river, is the perfect place for a calm, secluded and private holiday. With its own private river beach, it also has an attractive chemical free swimming pool far enough away from the house for those who don’t want any noise, with a billiard room, a large fridge, a bathroom and a separate shower. A large stone table covered by kiwi's will give you the possibility for ‘al fresco’ cocktails or lunches by the pool. There are lots of shady outdoor areas, to give you the coolness sometimes needed from the hot summer sun.

The owner of this property bought it as a ruin, and has lovingly constructed it to a charming fully air conditioned 3 bedroom cottage. The style is rustic and the interiors are furnished in a simple but elegant style, interspersing modern paintings with artefacts that have been collected from all over the world.

Beiral da Eira is a charming and secluded cottage nestled among beautiful trees with a fabulous view of the Tâmega river. The house offers spacious accommodation and is ideal for a large family or 2 families to share 3 en suite bedrooms. The centre of Marco de Canaveses is a mere 5 min. drive where there are plenty of inexpensive and good restaurants, supermarkets, shops etc. A 15 min. drive will get you to Amarante, a charming little town with Golf and the famous Casa da Calçada 1 star michelin restaurant. You are also a mere 30 min. drive from the town of Oporto where you can explore the charming city, visit the Port Lodges and enjoy al fresco lunch in one of the many excellent restaurants both in the centre of town or on the beach front.

However, the house in itself is charming enough not to want to leave and enjoy the peace and privacy of this charming property both in Autumn/Winter or Spring/Summer. The main entrance of the house leads down some steep stairs onto a large open space sitting/dining room with a separate kitchen which by opening the interior windows will make it part of the living space, including a flat screen TV, DVD player, and a games table. In between a large fireplace, the floor to ceiling windows lead out onto a wide covered wooden veranda with a beautiful view of the river, where you can enjoy ‘al fresco’ meals or evening cocktails. The master suite with a double bed is on one side of the house with its own bathroom, and the other 2 bedrooms are on the other side of the house, each one with it's own bathroom – children’s cots can be provided, although neither the house nor the swimming-pool are suited for small children unless fully accompanied. An outside covered bar-b-q with 2 traditional bread baking ovens and a large rustic stone table, gives it the final touch.

Apart from the Idyllic location, this charming cottage offers a comfort and welcome that puts our guest at ease straight away. We have many added extras available to guests, including a generous welcome basket on arrival. Many of our guests say they don't want to leave. Our Visitors Book is testament to the many charms and benefits that the cottage has to offer and we are pleased to say many of our guests return year after year. The 180º veranda particularly is enjoyed by our guest who simply like to sit and watch the bird life and the squirrel activity among the trees, read a book or gently snooze in the very comfortable chairs. At the end of the day this is often where our guests sit to eat and enjoy a relaxing refreshment like a glass of wine. In the cooler weather our guests enjoy the fireside which soon makes the living room a very snug place to curl up.

Copious rain did not spoil our enjoyment of this splendid villa before we had to leave unexpectedly. So sad not to stay the full time - two weeks. Fire in the evening made it very cosy!

Great place for peace and quiet - no barking dogs...and comfortable mattresses!

Our week at Astrid's house was one of our favourite holidays ever. The location is beautiful and there's plenty to do in the area as well as at the house. We loved canoeing on the beautiful lake and spending evenings by the pool or in the amazing outdoor kitchen. The views from the balcony are amazing and the area surrounding the house was peaceful and quiet. The house is beautiful inside and had everything we needed, and Astrid left all the information we could need and was easy to contact; we couldn't have asked for a better place for a holiday.

Magnifique propriété près de Porto.

Merci encore Astrid pour ce merveilleux séjour. Nous avons passé 10 jours magnifiques dans cette propriété le long de la rivière (rêvassez sur le ponton ...). La maison est grande et parfaite pour 6 personnes. Elle permet à chacun d'avoir son espace. La cuisine est très bien équipée. De la terrasse la vue sur la rivière est très agréable. La piscine est grande et c'est un bonheur lorsqu'on revient de visites. La propriété qui est située en dehors de la ville et est donc vraiment au calme est proche de Porto pour laquelle nous avons eu un coup de coeur. Il y a beaucoup de choses à faire dans la région.

Nous conseillons vivement cette propriété exceptionnelle.

Changeover day is usually on Saturdays but we can be flexible depending on bookings.

Please make sure you adhere to the check-in/out times because our cleaning team often only have a few hours for the house to be changed over for the next guests arriving the same day .
The house will be thoroughly cleaned before and after each booking. Linen and towels are provided - including pool towels.
On two week bookings, the housekeeper will come in on Saturday to change the towels and the bed linen and will also give the house a general clean.

A Travel Baby Cot is available at 30 euros per week.

Central heating if required will be charged at 15 euros per day. Firewood for the fireplace is included in the price.
A welcome pack will be available on arrival.

A returnable deposit will be held against breakages and damages at 250 euros per booking.
Clothes washing machine + ironing available.
Other maid/babysitting services can usually be arranged for an additional charge paid locally.
Oporto Airport is a 35 min. drive away.
