Villa EtnAmare lies only 500 metres away from Santa Venerina, a village famed for the production of sweets, wine and liqueurs. In the village, just 5 minutes walking distance, there are good restaurants, supermarkets and shops.
This quiet, landscaped village offers a number of relaxing activities which can be booked from the property: wine tours, massage, tennis and horse riding.
You can also book guided tours to Mt Etna, Taormina and the marine reserve of Aci Trezza. The owners will be available for any tips on the area during your stay.
Santa Venerina is an excellent base from which to explore eastern Sicily, thanks to its very strategic position halfway between Catania and Taormina. The village is 5 minutes drive from the highway A18 Catania-Messina from which (in an average time of 20 minutes) you can reach the most beautiful places of Eastern Sicily, such as Taormina, Alcantara Gorge, Catania, Acicastello, Acireale, Etna, Giardini Naxos...
The charming baroque town of Acireale is only 15 km away from Santa Venerina. It is situated next to the 'Riviera dei Ciclopi', a unique coast with a crystal clear sea and lava stacks (Faraglioni) which is believed by Greek mythology to correspond to the stones thrown by blind Polifemo to Ulysses. The Riviera traditional resort towns of Acicastello and Acitrezza have long been a magnet for local day trips and offer arguably the best Granita to be found anywhere and lots of good seafood trattorias. Catania, with its rich architectural heritage, its vibrant markets, restaurants and shops, is only 30 minutes away from the village.
The east coast Ionian Riviera has some of Sicily's most picturesque pebbly and sandy beaches including those of Isola Bella, Giardini Naxos and Letojanni (below Taormina). Santa Venerina is just 25 km from Gardini Naxos and 30 km (20 minutes with the highway) from Taormina, which draws more visitors than any other town in Sicily, thanks to its splendid position, its elegant shops, and its Graeco-Roman theatre with a unique view of Mount Etna. Torre Archirafi, Pozzillo and Santa Maria la Scala are pleasant seaside villages near Santa Venerina. The nearest beaches can be found in Praiola, Stazzo and Pozzillo (8 km).
Santa Venerina is also an excellent starting point from which to explore Mount Etna and its surroundings. The towns and villages that dot the flanks of Etna, such as Zafferana Etnea, Trecastagni and Randazzo, are well worth stopping off for a visit to their seventeenth century churches built in lava stone or for a spot of lunch in restaurants offering delicious local products. The village is only 4 km away from Zafferana Etnea and 10 km from Rifugio Sapienza, the main ski area, where you can take the Etna cableway, up to the main craters.
The sun of Sicily holds the record in Europe and maintains a mild climate throughout the year. Spring is the ideal time to enjoy the culture and nature that this island has to offer. It’s well worth making a trip just to experience the Easter processions, bringing together folklore and tradition in an incredibly mystic way.
The interior is spectacular, with the mountain slopes exploding in colour, while on the coast the first bathers start taking to the beaches.
In autumn, throughout October and mid-November, the sea water is still warmed by the summer sun, and the daytime temperature still reaches 30°c during the warmest hours. Many towns around Etna organize festivals dedicated to local products such as wine, mushrooms and sweets.
Our apartments are suitable for winter, Christmas and New Year. The weather between December and March can often be mild and sunny, but each of the apartments have a cosy quality allied to good heating systems and plenty of indoor space just in case!
Hello, my name is Nadia. I graduated in Foreign Langueges and Literatures in 2011 and I'm a teaching assistant since 2013. Although cultivating an unbridled passion for travel, I have always been living in Santa Venerina. My brother Fabio has lived and worked in Stockholm for a few years as a sound engineer before moving back to Sicily in 2014. My parents Angelo and Maria Teresa, a builder and a landscape architect, respectively, teamed up to realise our little paradise that we all love to share, since we have the great opportunity to meet different people from all over the world.
My father bought the property in 1986. He was enchanted by the beauty of that vast plot of land cultivated with vineyards and citrus groves that offered an unrivaled view and that, despite being in the countryside, was so well connected to neighboring towns.
On the property was a lovely winery that, once renovated, became our home for a few years.
Among my most cherished childhood memories are the summer times spent with my brother exploring, riding a bike, climbing the fruit trees and gorging ourselves with cherries, apricots and whatever else we could find when we got hungry... and then the harvest in autumn days, which became the occasion of parties and meetings with family and friends.
In 2001 began the construction of the present structure, which was completed in 2010.
We share our property with genuine passion, aware and proud of the uniqueness of this place. Papà Angelo loves to collect fresh fruit for our guests and to lead them along the citrus scented paths, so that they can pick the fruit by themselves. Mamma Maria Teresa is a discreet presence, but 'behind the scenes' she coordinates all matters relating to the care of garden and villas.
Everything is family run whereby it is sometimes very difficult, but in the end there is no greater satisfaction than to see guests come back year after year, or just say some nice words about their stay at our place.
Villa EtnAmare was inaugurated in July 2010. The villa, garden and semi-Olympic pool have been designed and built by the owners Angelo and Maria Teresa. The wooden furnishings and traditional Sicilian finishes in lava stone and terracotta have been chosen with great care.
Girasole apartment was just right for the 2 of us - it gave us fantastic views from the balconies of the sea, Mount Etna and the beautifully landscaped grounds with fruit trees and vines. Swimming in the big pool also gave us the same breath taking views. Off the beaten track and up a private road made it feel more exclusive. However one could walk to the local small town easily if one did not want to take the car. The location was ideal for visiting Mount Etna and the surrounding villages but also for visiting Taormina and Catania and beyond. The two lane motorway at this time of year made it quick and easy to get around by car. Our hosts were extremely friendly, kind and helpful
What can we say. We came as tourists and left as friends. That's the best thing, what can happen in a holiday. The Villa Etnamare has an amazing view. It is quired, sorrounded by a wonderful garden whith lots of fruits, vegetables and herbs. We cooked a lot with ingriedents from the garden. The four appartments are well equiped and have all a fantastic view. The pool is just great. Our daughter loved to dive for hours:-). Nadia, Angelo and Dario are so nice hosts - we just want to say thank you - we will definitly come back!!!
Grazie mille e a presto!

First, I must say that the picture of the pool and views are more amazing in real life. The grounds are wonderful with fruits and herbs you can pick. We picked cherries, lemons, oranges, and plums that were delicious. We picked our herbs from the grounds to cook. This entire experience with the land was precious and beautiful. It was just my husband and me (we were on our honeymoon) and it was very peaceful and relaxing. The City of Santa Venerina is very quiet so if you want more “action” it’s about 15 minutes away. There are several vineyards nearby which Nadia and Dario can help you with. You will live like a true Italian here. Angelo and Teresa (the mom and dad) are great! We had a cooking class with the family which was one of our most memorable events on our Italy trip. It started off with us going to the fish market in Catania. If you like cooking and Italian food, we recommend you do it. I’ve cooked the Pasta alla Norma a couple times already as well as the zucchini salad. Teresa’s cooking was amazing and a recipe from her mom! The apartment was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The only I would point out as a negative is the size of the shower. It was a bit tight and small for American standards. We look forward to going back.
Great place, lovely swimming pool and surroundings, very friendly peoply en nice weather. We'll come back!

We enjoyed a fantastic week at Etnamare in the Girasole apartment. The view from almost everywhere is fabulous with Etna on one side and the sea on the other side (you can even see mainland Italy). Very nice apartment with everything you need – aircondition, comfortable beds, washing machine. The pool area is just stunning with comfortable sunbeds and the pool itself is enormous (25 m).
Etnamare is only around ½ hour drive away from the Catania airport and many top class attractions like Etna, Taomina, and Siracusa can reached in less than an hour by car.
The week after we left Etnamare, we unfortunately had booked a house that did not live up to our expectations. We contacted Nadia, and less than two hours later she had confirmed that we could return the next day for the remaining two days of our Sicily vacation! That kind of service deserves a 6 star rating even though we can give no more than 5 starts on the Homeaway website. We have travelled in Italy for almost 20 years and Etnamare is no doubt the best place we have stayed. If you plan to go to Sicily this is the place to book.
Thank you so much to Nadia & her family (including Gandalf the cat) for a wonderful stay at Etnamare.
