Overview

About the property

Former refurbished barn with private and heated pool, pond, and wood

Visit our blog. New: a heated pool. Charm, comfort and beauty are waiting for you. It is unique, located in a green setting, for those who love nature and authenticity. This is an ancient farm recently restored, ideally located in the heart of Dordogne. It is very peaceful, in the middle of the countryside, on an eight-ha plot with ponds, woods, and grassland. The property is close to a typical village and all the shops. There is a heated and private pool, beautifully blooming and lit up. It has an exterior shower. It is gated (sound alarm according to legal standards) and surrounded by an exotic wood pool-beach. The abode is made of local stone with old exposed beams, and it has been tastefully decorated. Equipment is fancy. You will find, on the ground floor, a welcoming kitchen (double-door refrigerator, a large gas cooker, and double sink) leading to a convivial dining room, and decorated with a superb fireplace. Next to the kitchen, there is a spacious living room with a dining room and a sitting area with an original fireplace. All of this is overlooked from the mezzanine. There is an entrance hall, a laundry room, a shower room and separate toilets. Upstairs, you will find a beautiful bedroom with a private bathroom (bathtub, a double washbasin, toilets, a table, changing mat, a bathtub, a small potty-chair and a stool for a baby), and three other large bedrooms with a bathroom consisting of a bathtub, a shower, a washbasin, and separate toilets. There is a games and reading area on the mezzanine. In this single storey rental with garden, a fifth bedroom, independent, is waiting for you. It has separate toilets and a private bathroom consisting of a bathtub, a washbasin, and a shower. Outside, there is a covered terrace, a barbecue, a boules court with balls and target ball, wooden garden furniture, a private garden, not overlooked by any neighbour (possibility of nudist holiday), a heated and private pool, swings, badminton, a table tennis table, and an orchard. You will enjoy a superb view of the pond (private) and the woods (private too). Fishing in the pond is possible (crayfish and fried food in the small pond, and many sizes and types of fish in the large pond: gardon, bream, carp, eel, and much more. Fishing rods are available. There is a cabin in the woods and a horse stall. The property is located 5 min away on foot from the small medieval village of Saint-Méard, where you will find a restaurant, a grocery store, a hairdressing, a bakery, a pharmacy, a bookshop, and an autoshop, as well as a pony club and a golf course (9 holes). In the neighbouring village, bike rentals area available. On Thursday morning, there is local market where you will find cooked pork meats, a fishmonger, a cheese maker, an organic grocer, an award winning merchant, an Italian caterer, a bicycle seller/repairer, a roast chicken seller, and an Asian caterer. There are many local markets in the surrounding area. In Sainte-Foy-la-Grande or in Montpon-Ménestérol (10 min away by car), you will find many boutiques, supermarkets, banks, bars, and restaurants. In Bergerac (25 min away by car), you will find all the services, shopping facilities, bars, and restaurants, as well as an organic food market on Tuesday. In Bergerac, you can rent a boat for a trip in the Dordogne River or to visit the old town on a small train, with a stunning view of the Périgourd houses. In Saint-Martial-d'Artenset, you can visit the island on a scow with lock crossing: a gift for the eyes of children and adults. Many activities are offered in the area: golf, canoeing, hiking or biking trails, horse riding, tennis courts, fishing, or simply with the various relaxation, a swimming pool, a table tennis table, a boules court, and badminton in the garden. There are many restaurants (of all kinds) and wine producers nearby. You can also make a trip along the Wine Route or in the lovely surrounding cities. You can visit the local markets or a flea market. During a day, you can visit the most beautiful villages in France, the natural sites of the region, and the countless Provencal country houses. Visit the wine cellars, get in touch the eco-tourism, and organise parties. The property, a great place to live, is ideal for holidays with family or friends. Visit the imposing Château de Lanquais (a dream children), as well as Sarlat; on Saturday morning, there is a truffle market, foie gras, and mushrooms (depending on the season). Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, the Lascaux Caves and Château de Monbazillac are must-visit places for an excursion. There are many tourist guides, and many maps of the region available in the house, as well as a book detailing all the possible attractions and the addresses of good small restaurants to have dinner with your couple, family, or friends. In the property, there is a grassland with a horse, a donkey, and two female roe deer (which are waiting for you for a night walk). We organise a bonfire in one of the grasslands, by the side of the pond, with a "drumming" atmosphere, and we invite children (and adults) to come and pick up the eggs of our chickens. In the surroundings, there are many possibilities of horse-riding hikes and golf courses: Saint Méard Golf Club (9 holes) and the wonderful golf course of Vigiers. Gastronomy will not be disappointing: Restaurateurs do their best to offer menus, as good as the high-quality wines of the region. The duck is typical dish, and we want to make your mouth water: magret, conserves, and foie gras stand out, and the chefs use them to make sublime delights. Besides all of this, what it is luxurious is the fact that you can choose a mushroom or a truffle sauce for accompanying it However, the restaurants of the region also offer a less expensive gastronomy. The Salade landaise, for example, delicately mixes duck gizzards, slivers, and magret with tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, and asparagus. In Dordogne, the culinary art is accompanied by oenology, and wine has an important role in gastronomy.

About Marie-France Moreau

We have fallen in love with this farmhouse, and we bought it to live. However, taking into account the size and layout of the gite, we have immediately decided to rent it and offer our guests comfortable beds, a soothing view over the grasslands, the woods, and the ponds.

Marie-France Moreau purchased this house in 2011

Perfect place for 3 families to relax in France

  • 5 of 5

6 adults, 5 children and 2 perfect weeks in France. We had a fantastic holiday at L'ane Vert and it more than lived up to our expectations. We settled in so easily that it felt like home and we were all sad to leave. It ticked every box for what we wanted, and more.

We enjoyed staying at the property so much that we only ventured out sight seeing on a couple of occasions. There was more than enough to keep the children happy while the adults could enjoy time to themselves trying the local wine and food. The heated pool was fantastic and the children spent most of the day in it. When they weren't in the pool they were playing in the very large gardens, or exploring the private woods, or walking through the meadow with the friendly horse and donkey, or collecting berries for fruit crumbles.

The fishing in the lake was very good, caught quite a few 4 - 6lb carp off the surface, lovely way to spend a few hours late afternoon while enjoying a cold beer.

The gite was extremely well equipped and there wasn't anything else that could have been done to improve this. All the rooms were very clean and the bedrooms very comfortable. Plenty of seating outside and the covered outside dining area was perfect for long lunches and even longer evenings. 10 minute easy walk to the village for fresh croissants every morning.

Marie-France and Harry were excellent hosts, very sociable, and clearly very proud of their property. They live next door and totally respect your privacy but are always on hand if you need anything. Bongos by the campfire after midnight is an evening I wont forget in a hurry. The children enjoyed going with Harry on his regular afternoon walks through the woods with his 2 goats.

We will visit again as I think it will be impossible to find a better gite that is so well located. Thank you Marie-France and Harry.

A fantastic house.

  • 5 of 5

Nine of us and two dogs have just spent a glorious week in this wonderful house. The house has everything you could wish for. It is very spacious providing cool places to escape the heat and sit and read or play games. The outside space is huge - lakes and a wood where we walked the dogs each day and the dogs could have a swim. The pool and pool area are fantastic and as the pool is heated we were able to spend hours in it. Although there is so much to do and see in the area we only ventured out on two occasions as we loved being at the house so much and spent hours playing table-tennis and boules. The owners, Harry and Marie-France, live next door and so are on hand if you need anything. They have goats and donkeys who you can visit and feed. Harry gave us the opportunity to visit a local vineyard for a wine-tasting where we bought lots of lovely (and inexpensive!) wine. I chose this house from the photographs and great reviews it has.... it turns out it’s even better in real life than in the pictures. A fantastic place that I would love to return to.

Great house in a perfect environment!

  • 5 of 5

Two families, with 7 children ranging from 8 to 20 years of age, greatly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. Despite the wide range of ages, everyone had the opportunity to find pearls in this environment.

Of course the old, solid, spacey, cosy house, with lots of places to play games, read or chat, contributed to that. But the really big benefit we found outdoors. The very nice large pool, the hang-mat, the beautiful garden, the donkeys, the goats, the chicken, the table tennis, and all the time we spent at the dining table under the roof. It is a perfect setting for relaxation, play, and being social. The evenings where magical, with a wonderful view, the quietness, with only the relaxing sound of the nature. You will not find any disturbing civilization nearby.

The beautiful surroundings with farm lands, wineries and old village provides a great atmosphere. At walking distance you'll find the vital bakery and a small food shop. We also took our daily tour to the beautiful Sainte-Foy-la-Grande to buy food, have a coffee or just stroll around. We would also like to suggest some day-tours to Bergerac, and by the sea; Dune du Pilat.

The house is well equipped, not least with playful things like indoor games and badminton and boules. We spent a fair amount of time in the kitchen which is conveniently placed close to the pool and the outdoor table. The only improvement we could suggest, if you are a serious kook, is to strengthen the kitchen equipment a bit, but in general, everything you need is there.

The owners where very supportive and kind. Harry helped us to get invited to a near-by winery for tasting and buying great wine. He even drove us there. A good memory is also the walk he took us together with the mountain goats in the forest.

This is the perfect home for all ages, if you are looking for a quiet place close to nature.

Thank you Marie-France and Henry, we would love to come back some day.

Noel en famille

  • 4 of 5
