Beautiful luxury cottage short walk to beautiful Gwenver beach and cliffs - New Forge

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,453 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

Above Gwenver Beach, Sennen,

New Forge is a fabulous modern and luxurious cottage that's loved by couples for romantic breaks as well as families getting away from it all. There are lots more pictures and film see as well as up to date calendar and booking on our website thecornishway.co.uk.

The space is most generous with a 35 foot long living space and big bedrooms, even a studio in the garden if anyone needs to work (ask me about it).

We completed the cottage in 2011 to a very high standard and with good appliances - many guests who keep coming back like to consider it their luxury holiday home.

But if you fancy something more adventurous there is a good surf school down the road, sea fishing trips or diving, or bring your bike and tackle some of the hills that make West Cornwall such a beautiful place.

The cottage has everything you're likely to need, whether you want to cook at home, barbecue, or maybe sample some of the great restaurants of St Ives, Penzance or The Beach in Sennen Cove.

If you're looking for a quiet break, or you want to try cycling in Cornwall, surfing, twitchers, or just lovers of the wonderful scenery.

We have some of Britain's best beaches within a short drive - some just a walk away. You can swim, surf or fish off Gwenver (Gwynver), and that's just down the lane. My favourite is Porthcurno and its neighbour Penvounder, probably 5 miles from here.

We're a long way from London, but our culture is alive and thriving. The Minack Theatre is a few miles away. The modern gardens of Tremenheere are attracting more and more people wanting to experience the James Turrell spaces there, even though it's not officially open yet. The Kneehigh, Miracle and other theatre companies put on stunning out door events, and our festivals including Golowan, Lafroda and Montol demonstrate that life on the edge is a fun experience.

West Cornwall is a magical place, steeped in mystery from its ancient past, evidence of which is seen in the fogous, burial tombs and remains of villages such as Chysauster and Carn Euny.

Our many tin and copper mines, ancient and modern helped us gain UNESCO World Heritage status, and you can go underground at nearby Geevor, or see the oldest working Cornish Beam Engine at Levant.

The Cape Cornwall Golf Club is a short drive and is a wild cliff top course.

About Kelvin Collins

Kelvin grew up nearby and was determined that we would have our base here in Cornwall. It started with the upstairs of the granary which we later converted to create Myn Tea.

Kelvin Collins purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Kelvin Collins chose South West Cornwall

We visited many places before spending a whole afternoon with the owners of the granary that was later to become Myn Tea. When what is now New Forge came on the market we utterly stretched ourselves to buy it.

Although it was extremely basic back then, we knew immediately that this is where we wanted to live. Work takes Amanda around the country, but Tregiffian has always been home. Just being here lightens the load of everyday life and helps you see things with a new perspective.

It says a lot that the people we bought from moved away for ten years, but have now moved back here and live just across the courtyard.

We are right at the edge of Britain and it can be utterly calm, yet at other times wild in the extreme. The very contrasts in the weather, no matter what it throws at you, are truly good for the soul and leave you feeling more alive.

What makes this cottage unique

Whether you stay at New Forge or Myn Tea next door or The Old Dairy across the courtyard, you'll have wonderfully comfortable accommodation, far reaching views, good gardens and you could spend a relaxing holiday here without leaving the property. But when you venture out you have the best of Cornwall with its cliffs and beaches right on your doorstep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just wanted to say how perfect this break has been!

Exactly what we wished for.

Definitely an experience which we will want to repeat.

Fabulous holiday Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Really wonderful, homely, stylish holiday home. Clean and comfortable with all mod cons and a special relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. I rarely find a place I would return to but this is one of them. Excellent friendly host who gave us some good tips and information about local places to visit and eat. Highly recommended.

Beautifully designed property with stylish decor.

  • 5 of 5

The New Forge was better than described. It felt more like someone's home rather than a holiday property. Clean and well maintained. The owners offer helpful services via their website. Check out the blogs for ideas of where to go and things to do. Wonderful Cornwall. It doesn't get better.

Wonderful home (from home) in a fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly wonderful base to see the best of the South West Coast. So much to see and do with unprecedented coastal views, but always looked forward to going back to the New Forge. This home was stylish, yet practical for everyday living. Well stocked with to cater for all self-catering needs. The owner was fabulous and attentive, offering ideas and suggestions on things to do and see - and excellent attention to detail - with fresh flowers, wine and milk waiting for our arrival. Highly recommended!

Brillant family holiday.Piece of heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful extremely high-spec, immaculate property for a week in February. It is within walking distance of the gorgeous Gwynver beach and only 15 minute drive from Sennen Cove and lots of other great attractions. Our only problem was that the house was so lovely that we didn't want to leave. Hundreds of books, music in every room and the best bed I have ever slept in. I have left with house envy and plans to redecorate my home! Kelvin and Amanda are the perfect hosts and provided lots of useful info and local tips. We ate at the Gurnard Inn en route to St Ives. The drive there was amazing and the food was superb. I can't recommend this highly enough and will definitely book with thecornishway.co.uk again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. It's heart warming to read a review like yours and know that guests appreciate the house as much as we love it. It was lovely to meet you all and you'll certainly be welcome back whenever you can make it. Try to get here in September when Cornwall is quiet, but everything is still open and often the weather is as good as any in the summer. Thanks for sending the book back as well. I have now started re-reading it and I'm in love with his writing all over again. Best wishes. Kelvin.

Beautiful, luxurious quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

New Forge was everything I was expecting and more. So comfortable and literally home from home. The kitchen was totally equipped and the log burner kept the place so toasty warm. The location is very quiet and right by some of the most beautiful beaches in Cornwall, also great coastal walks down to Lands end and beyond. Was tough to leave! will be returning very soon, thank you for sharing your home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. It's great to meet people who love Cornwall whatever the weather. I believe that the only hard bit about bad weather is stepping out of the door, once you've done that you can begin to enjoy the day whatever it throws at you - especially when you know you have New Forge to return to. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Best wishes. Kelvin.

These gorgeous cottages are just a short walk from the beautiful surfing beach of Gwenver, which is a quieter beach around the corner from popular Sennen Cove. The busy towns of St Ives and Penzance are both a short drive, and some of the best beaches in the country are nearby.

If you're into walking, cycling, surfing, you're a twitcher, art lovers or just looking for a great self catering holiday should consider The Cornish Way for your next break in West Cornwall.

It's designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and makes an amazing location for family holidays or romantic breaks all year round.

The mining areas of Cornwall are UNESCO World Heritage sites and offer an insight into the life of our ancestors.

This countryside inspired such authors as Daphne Dumorier, Rosemund Pilcher and more recently Patrick Gale. The art colonies nearby are famouse from such great as Barbara Helpworth, Stanhope Forbes and even Mark Rothcoe.

The modern cottage was completed to a high standard in 2011 and offers every comfort, whereas The Old Dairy has all the charm of a traditional Cornish cottage.

We have properties sleeping two to eight, or up to 17 if you take three! Each offers everyone enough space to have their own quiet time.

If you plan your shopping well - or have it delivered, you might not even use your car for the duration of your stay.
