New Forge is a fabulous modern and luxurious cottage that's loved by couples for romantic breaks as well as families getting away from it all. There are lots more pictures and film see as well as up to date calendar and booking on our website thecornishway.co.uk.
The space is most generous with a 35 foot long living space and big bedrooms, even a studio in the garden if anyone needs to work (ask me about it).
We completed the cottage in 2011 to a very high standard and with good appliances - many guests who keep coming back like to consider it their luxury holiday home.
But if you fancy something more adventurous there is a good surf school down the road, sea fishing trips or diving, or bring your bike and tackle some of the hills that make West Cornwall such a beautiful place.
The cottage has everything you're likely to need, whether you want to cook at home, barbecue, or maybe sample some of the great restaurants of St Ives, Penzance or The Beach in Sennen Cove.
If you're looking for a quiet break, or you want to try cycling in Cornwall, surfing, twitchers, or just lovers of the wonderful scenery.
We have some of Britain's best beaches within a short drive - some just a walk away. You can swim, surf or fish off Gwenver (Gwynver), and that's just down the lane. My favourite is Porthcurno and its neighbour Penvounder, probably 5 miles from here.
We're a long way from London, but our culture is alive and thriving. The Minack Theatre is a few miles away. The modern gardens of Tremenheere are attracting more and more people wanting to experience the James Turrell spaces there, even though it's not officially open yet. The Kneehigh, Miracle and other theatre companies put on stunning out door events, and our festivals including Golowan, Lafroda and Montol demonstrate that life on the edge is a fun experience.
West Cornwall is a magical place, steeped in mystery from its ancient past, evidence of which is seen in the fogous, burial tombs and remains of villages such as Chysauster and Carn Euny.
Our many tin and copper mines, ancient and modern helped us gain UNESCO World Heritage status, and you can go underground at nearby Geevor, or see the oldest working Cornish Beam Engine at Levant.
The Cape Cornwall Golf Club is a short drive and is a wild cliff top course.
Kelvin grew up nearby and was determined that we would have our base here in Cornwall. It started with the upstairs of the granary which we later converted to create Myn Tea.
Kelvin Collins purchased this cottage in 1999
We visited many places before spending a whole afternoon with the owners of the granary that was later to become Myn Tea. When what is now New Forge came on the market we utterly stretched ourselves to buy it.
Although it was extremely basic back then, we knew immediately that this is where we wanted to live. Work takes Amanda around the country, but Tregiffian has always been home. Just being here lightens the load of everyday life and helps you see things with a new perspective.
It says a lot that the people we bought from moved away for ten years, but have now moved back here and live just across the courtyard.
We are right at the edge of Britain and it can be utterly calm, yet at other times wild in the extreme. The very contrasts in the weather, no matter what it throws at you, are truly good for the soul and leave you feeling more alive.
Whether you stay at New Forge or Myn Tea next door or The Old Dairy across the courtyard, you'll have wonderfully comfortable accommodation, far reaching views, good gardens and you could spend a relaxing holiday here without leaving the property. But when you venture out you have the best of Cornwall with its cliffs and beaches right on your doorstep.
We just wanted to say how perfect this break has been!
Exactly what we wished for.
Definitely an experience which we will want to repeat.
The Barn is a stunning property - great views, lovely open plan great to sit with friends and relax.
Log burner makes lovely and cosy in the winter.
Stunning location with great walks - no need to drive if you don't want to and great for dogs.
Stayed for a week - simply the best cottage we have ever stayed in and will be back next year. Superb!
My sister and I arrived at this beautiful property and immediately felt relaxed. The house is beautiful, luxurious, spacious but cosy. You didn't want for anything and kelvin even put our shopping away for when we arrived! The location is perfect for walking and tiring your dogs out. Kelvin the landlord was very helpful with any questions we had and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend this property.
Annette & louise
We had 2 wonderful weeks in this wonderful cottage in this wonderful part of the world. Kelvin did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The cottage has everything you need and even more. We especially enjoyed the wok cooker and the collection of Kelvin´s CDs.
He had a few great tips where to go, so we enjoyed some nice coastal walks, beaches and coves at Cape Cornwall, Nanjizal and more. And of course we saw the Geevor mine, the Minack Theatre, St.Just, St.Ives, Penzance, Mousehole and Land´s End. His tips regarding shops and dining were also very helpful. We also enjoyed the Apple Tree Cafe in Trevescan and Heather´s Cafe in Pendeen. Best of all : Sunny days at Gwynwer beach, which is only a 10 minutes walk from New Forge. We will come back !
New Forge is a stunning build with unique interior design. We wont ever forget it. It has a rustic homely feel which contrasts with big light and unbelievable height and space. There are floor to ceiling books. Sensory lights. Attention to detail made our stay luxurious: wine and homemade chilli relish on arrival, a quirky rock in the lush grassy garden where I perched with a glass of sauvignon and we watched the sea mist ghost in at dawn from under the master bedroom's duvet where the window doors open to let the early sea chill inside. We managed to catch an astonishing rainbow plus sunsets of blood red every evening.
Kelvin was warm and gregarious, quick to respond to any queries and his love of all things Cornish was infectious. My son felt very at ease grilling him about every item in New Forge including the charming outdoor shed.
A stand out beach for us was Gwenver. It was ours for an entire morning during our stay. A willowy sea fog weaved right down to the receding tide and still water rock pools shone deep and quartz clear: the children went hunting for sea things then we watched the giant waves rip up a majestic white fuss against the cliff face. It was a magical and deeply therapeutic experience.
We can't recommend New Forge and Myn Tea, its neighbouring property (where we also stayed for a week) highly enough.
We were blessed with brilliant weather but what made our holiday the most memorable we've ever had was the amazing New Forge.
The house had everything we needed and more, really great layout and design, making the whole family experience very special.
All the recommendations from Kelvin were gratefully received, we loved Sennen Farmers Market, and spent wonderful days on the beach and then a couple of evening in the local pubs. The evening walk back from Sennen was very special.
Thanks so much, booked again for next year!
These gorgeous cottages are just a short walk from the beautiful surfing beach of Gwenver, which is a quieter beach around the corner from popular Sennen Cove. The busy towns of St Ives and Penzance are both a short drive, and some of the best beaches in the country are nearby.
If you're into walking, cycling, surfing, you're a twitcher, art lovers or just looking for a great self catering holiday should consider The Cornish Way for your next break in West Cornwall.
It's designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and makes an amazing location for family holidays or romantic breaks all year round.
The mining areas of Cornwall are UNESCO World Heritage sites and offer an insight into the life of our ancestors.
This countryside inspired such authors as Daphne Dumorier, Rosemund Pilcher and more recently Patrick Gale. The art colonies nearby are famouse from such great as Barbara Helpworth, Stanhope Forbes and even Mark Rothcoe.
The modern cottage was completed to a high standard in 2011 and offers every comfort, whereas The Old Dairy has all the charm of a traditional Cornish cottage.
We have properties sleeping two to eight, or up to 17 if you take three! Each offers everyone enough space to have their own quiet time.
If you plan your shopping well - or have it delivered, you might not even use your car for the duration of your stay.
