Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Northern Scottish Highlands - William's Cottage

Elegant, spacious cottage with wonderful views of surrounding hills and islands

A beautifully presented croft style house situated in the heart of Achiltibuie.

Looking across to the Summer Isles, this very well equipped cottage offers delightful accommodation in a stunning and romantic holiday location. The cottage has full central heating, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sitting room with open fire place, dining room and kitchen and a large, private garden with ample parking. Freeview TV, DVD, iPod dock and WiFi. Surrounded by hills, lochs, islands and beaches, Achiltibuie is a popular holiday destination and a perfect base from which to explore the North West Highlands. Hill walking, kayaking, birdwatching, mountain biking, sailing, fishing or taking the local cruise boat around the islands are just some of the activities to enjoy in the area. Alternatively, just come to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of this extraordinary part of the highlands. Local restaurants include the nearby, award winning, Summer Isles Hotel, and two pubs serving excellent seafood

Welcome Pack: For your arrival we supply the following: milk, tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, salt, pepper, dishwasher tablets, toilet paper, soap, logs for the fire and fire-lighters. Should you wish to pre-order supplies from the local stores, please get in touch and we can arrange this for you. It is worth noting that local shops are closed on Sundays. There is a huge Tesco in Inverness and a smaller one in Ullapool (25 miles) open 7 days a week. You may order newspapers to be collected at the local stores. You will receive a full information pack of all suppliers, activities, etc. on booking.

Dogs: We welcome dogs by arrangement. The village is a crofting community with many sheep roaming free. The garden is well fenced with a cattle grid at the entrance. There are many walks where dogs can run free, but through the village it is important to keep dogs on leads.

We are sure your dogs don't sit on the sofas or beds but if you think they might do so please bring your own dog blankets to cover our furniture.

Activities: Many visitors come to walk in the area. We supply a list of 25 tried and tested walks of different lengths along with maps. It is a great area for kayaking. If you do not have your own kayaks it is possible to go out with a local guide. Sailing and windsurfing are both available on Tanera, the largest of the Summer Isles. Day cruises around the Summer Isles are available from Achiltibuie and Ullapool. Achiltibuie Traditional Music School offers piping lessons amongst other instruments. The village hall has a wonderful sports hall for badminton, indoor football, table tennis for wet days and also hosts many ceilidh and other musical events throughout the summer. Ullapool has a great leisure centre including an excellent swimming pool. Golf is available at Ullapool's challenging 9 hole golf course.

Not only is this property excellently maintained and tastefully furnished, its location and outlook are superb. Lovely large garden - securely fenced to allow our young dog freedom to roam. All in all - very highly recommended.

Our 8th holiday in Achiltibuie, first in Williams Cottage but certainly not the last. Excellent set back position affording elevated views over the Summer Isles with all the home comforts you could wish for in an attractive and well furnished cottage. We will be more than happy to return again next year!

Lovely, well-appointed cottage w/ stunning views

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully-presented, comfortable and extremely well-appointed cottage enjoying fabulous views of the Summer Isles. A great base from which to explore the surrounding area and for relaxing. The whole family loved staying here and I wish more holiday homes met such high standards. Would definitely go back.

Stay at Williams Cottage, July 2014

  • 5 of 5

This was possibly the best of a series of lovely holidays we've had in the Scottish Highlands, and the quality and comfort of Williams Cottage played a large part in this. As it happens, we were lucky with the weather, but even in good weather it's nice to have such a sapcious and logically organised house to return to. Everything was clean and nothing we could reasonably have wanted was lacking. For reference, the local store is well stocked; there's a beautiful beach a few miles off with shallow, safe water and that enticing aqua on white sand look; the views from the cottage are remarkable, particularly looking south; and the rock formations in the field behind the cottage are a great treat for little ones (but not too-little ones - ours are 5 and 8) to climb. Of course, the best thing is the utterly extraordinary scenery provided by Stac Pollaidh, Cul Mor and the rest. Williams cottage is the ideal hub from which to enjoy it all.

The Highland village of Achiltibuie is situated on the North West Coast of Scotland, looking across the bay to the Summer Island and beyond to the Hebrides. Achiltibuie is within easy reach of Lochinver and the coasts of Sutherland and Caithness to the north, as well as Ullapool, Gairloch, Inverewe Gardens and the coastal villages of Wester Ross to the south. Set within the North West Geopark, this stunning area offers visitors the chance to explore an extraordinary landscape of prehistoric hills and ancient lochs. Home to an abundance of wildlife this area is a nature lover's paradise. The natural environment provides a wonderful playground for many outdoor activities based on both land and sea. Often described as 'Europe's Last Great Wilderness' Achiltibuie offers a truly unique and varied holiday experience.
