Steve and I fell in love in 2004 and went to Italy for our first holiday together. We instantly fell in love with the people, way of life, the food and the beauty of Tuscany. So we decided that we would love to come back here over and over again. We bought our apartment in Bagni Di Lucca in 2008 and visited frequently. The quick successive birth of our 2 sons meant that we cant visit as often as we would like, so we decided to rent our apartment out so that it wasn't sitting cold and empty. We wanted people to enjoy Bagni di Lucca and Tuscany as we have over the years. We absolutely love visiting and hope you do too!
Faye Partridge purchased this apartment in 2008
After looking at a few out of town properties, we instantly knew that we wanted something more town based. We found that when visiting Italy, we wanted to slow down a bit, move at a slower pace of life. At the same time, we wanted to stay somewhere which was near to restaurants, and other amenities. We definitely wanted something classically Italian, which had character and soul. This apartment fitted the brief perfectly!
The 3 Main benefits of our property as we see it:
1. We see this as out second home, so we have decorated it
with care and love, not as a rental property. So its comfortable and lovely to sit in after a busy day visiting the sites.
2. No car is needed as all amenities are on the doorstep.
4. Only 1 hour from Pisa Airport and 20 mins from Lucca
The apartment was warm and very comfortable with everything you could want. Clean and bright with a super view of the river. Location perfect for food and drink and the local people are so friendly, I wanted to stay for a month. Don't expect super fast wifi though and if you need to check in for a flight then get a drink at the bar opposite and do it there.
We were delighted when we first saw this lovely apartment. It is furnished so tastefully with everything you could possible want in an apartment. It is bigger than any other apartment I have rented and definitely the best I have ever rented. The view over the village was stunning and always fun as there was so much activity. I could easily live in this apartment. Everything was so clean it was immaculate. The manager Rod was fabulous. He helped us so much, nothing was any trouble to him. I just hope that I can return one day and spend another month there, if not longer. I LOVED it. The village is so close and everyone is so friendly. Lots of ex pats are living there so there was plenty of English spoken. The cafe, bar and restaurants were all fantastic. The next villages in both directions were within walking distance and they had super markets and weekly street markets. Bagni di Lucca is a perfect place to stay. I highly recommend it. It sure is a refreshing change from staying in the big cities and yet the big cities are only a train ride away. This apartment is more than I expected.
Bagni di Lucca is a very picturesque town and this apartment is situated in the very heart of, overlooking the river and the busy square. The apartment itself, aside from being central, is really nicely decorated, with a clean, airy, bright feel, and with beautiful old shutters. Really comfortable beds too! We didn't hire a car and spent our time walking up to the lido where we would while away the hours in a stunning setting, or playing tennis at the local courts, or walking up into the hills, or taking a bus or train trip to nearby towns.
Breakfast every day was from the cafe opposite the apartment, and lunch and dinner a mixture of making our own food from the very well stocked supermarket, or dining out especially at the pizzeria across the road overlooking the river. We were there for the end of June/begining of July and there were no mozzies at all (just lots of bees at the tennis courts!).
And, very importantly, very very good AND cheap wine! The local Tuscan reds and the fizzy white were our favourites and the supermarket was really well stocked.
Kids loved it, we loved it, we all want to go back! Thanks so much!
With my family just a short distance away in Borgo val di Taro, I have spent my whole life visiting/holidaying in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. However, until a recent golf trip, Lucca had remained an undiscovered jewel. If you like a slower pace and a view into a more traditional Italy, then Lucca and surrounding areas are a real treat - and this apartment in Bagni is the perfect base from which to explore. The apartment is spacious and sympathetically styled, and more importantly it is in the heart of this wonderful village. The view from the master bedroom makes it a pleasure to get up in the morning and the gentle noise of the river washes away any stress you may have at the end of the day. The local bars and restaurants are just that: full of locals enjoying good food and drink (and conversation) and there is more than enough variety within striking distance. If you want somewhere to immerse yourself in real Italy whilst enjoying the comfort of a contemporary, spacious home, then this is the place for your next holiday.
Oh, and I should say that if golf is your primary holiday reason, there are places which are better located (like Portugal!).
We were very impressed by the pictures and reviews on this property and they proved to be spot in when we arrived. The appartment is very well presented with everything you need if catering for yourself is the plan but with such excellent facitilites literally on your doorstep at such excellent value I'd sample the local fayre. The local representative for the appartment was extremely helpful on our arrival and was happy to be on hand for any problems during the week of which there were none.
We decided not to hire a car as the plan was really to relax and it didn't prove to be a problem as local bus and train services were very good and very cheap compared to British public transport prices. Return bus and train tickets to Florence, 2 1/2 hours away, was 16 Euros. There were lovely walks around Bagni itself and there was always a lovely gelateria at the other end. There were also two very good supermarkets within easy walking distance, one at each end of Bagni but nothing on the doorstep.
We ate several times at the Pizzaria just across the way from the appartment and the food was excellent. In the evenings there were tables outside by the river which was lovely and there weren't too many midges or biting insects around to spoil the experience. There was an excellent choice of food on the menu as well as a good variety of pizza but the super calzone comes highly recommend by two of our party, as does the brick flattened chicken.
The local bar also has seating out on the piazza and on the weekend of our arrival was the venue for a jazz group. The road was closed to traffic and local businesses provided seating outside so there was plenty of opportuntity to enjoy the music and atmosphere.
The locals very very friendly and helpful even though they didn't speak much English it was not a problem. It was even possible to buy bus and train tickets from the news kiosk on the piazza.
Our only disappointment was that we hadn't booked to stay longer. This part of Italy seemed to run at it's own relaxed pace which was just what we were hoping for, it certainly did not disappoint.
What a great place to stay if you want to experience Tuscany as it should be experienced. Although you will be best to have a car to explore the region, this town is so unspoilt you think you have gone back in time. The apartment is spacious, has been modernised tastefully but still maintains that "Italian charm". It offers comfortable accommodation and a view from the master bedroom that will take some beating. You can walk from the apartment to a few restaurants and is only a few steps away from the local bar and coffee shop where you can sit and simply enjoy the slower pace of life....
I definitely plan to go back here sometime in the future.
