Outside the terrace which overlooks fields down to the river has plenty of seating with BBQ.
The village of Eastgate has a very welcoming pub which serves evening meals and Sunday roasts, and is close to the town of Stanhope which has a visitors centre a host of cafes and and craft shops and good butchers, greengrocers, chemist, a further selection of pubs serving real ales and food, and individual shops.
Durham is the nearest city which has many attractions including a castle, cathedral etc.
The old barn is situated on the Weardale Way, walkers, cyclists and nature lovers will love the area with many established footpaths and cycle paths through breathtaking countryside , often referred to as one of the North’s best kept secrets, the Durham Dales are situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with rugged upland, mighty waterfalls, fertile rivers and wild flower meadows. Killhope with its North of England Lead Mining Museum is also close by as is Hamsterley Forest, a little further you can explore Northumberland and to the east is Cumbria and the Lake District.
Travel on A689 into Weardale, passing through Wolsingham, Frosterley and Stanhope, Eastgate is a small village so take the first right approaching the village at the bus stop, pass the church and village hall on your right, continue up a narrow road as you drive up the lane you will pass a house on your right, keep going over the cattle grid you will reach the farm.
