Just outside the village of Santa Venerina, on the crossroad between Taormina, Catania, Mount Etna and the sea, Casa Mareneve boasts a private pool with diving board, stunning views and a lush garden with green lawn, tall palm tress and colourful Bougainville.
The villa has been recently refurbished and consists of a main house and a dépendance that are beautifully joined together by a covered terrace and a pergola of grape vines, ideal for outdoors lunches.
The main house is on two floors:
- On the first floor there are three double bedrooms, two bathrooms (with showers), a living room, and a covered balcony overlooking the garden and the pool.
- On the ground floor there is a spacious living/dining room with kitchen, a double bedroom, a single bedroom and a bathroom (with tub).
The dépendance consists of one double bed, a single bed, a bathroom and a kitchen with a stone oven, and a fireplace.
The pool (10x5m; from 1 to 3m deep) is located next to a charming Aeolian style terrace with view on the sea and on the beautiful garden and it is open from 1st April to the end of October. The pool will be exclusively for you!
In Casa Mareneve time passes effortlessly while relaxing under the many shaded areas or contemplating the sea and Mount Etna from one of its terraces. If you are up for a small walk, you will be pleased by a stroll in the nearby village of Zafferana Etnea, very cute. If you are in the mood for a day trip, you will soon realize how strategic the position of this villa is for discovering the beauty of the Eastern side of Sicily.
All in all Casa Mareneve is truly the place to please everyone.
We have been with Homeaway since 2006, proposing houses that are able to unfold Sicily's colours and charm at best.
Houses with quality furnishing in unique locations, with incredible views or with a pool, always accurately selected in order to satisfy our main wish: to see you falling in love with Sicily just like we did.
We provide you with transparent information and true pictures. What you see is exactly what you get. We will advise you as much as we can about travel info, transfers and car rental.
Dinners in villas and other extra services can also be arranged. Finally, our prices are final rates! There are no hidden additional costs. We are flexible with your arrivals and departures and if you need a late check-in this is usually possible.
This was our first visit to Sicily. We did feel a bit off the beaten track with not many tourists, however it was great to mix with the locals.
We spent two weeks exploring the area, including a trip up Etna - the highlight of the holiday - totally amazing. We visited Taormina which was just beautiful and also the nearby beach.
The Villa itself, although very comfortable, especially the upstairs, could do with some TLC. The downstairs kitchen area was not as clean as we would have liked it. The two bedrooms downstairs were very dark. However if the plan is to make it over gradually I am full of hope that soon the whole place will be as light and airy as upstairs.
Two of our party stayed in the apartment which was very comfortable, apart from the flies that congregated on the window in the main bedroom/living area.
The pool is great, but not good for non-swimmers or those who are not confident in the water. We bought our children float jackets as the shallow end was still far too deep to stand up in. Be warned!!
Saying all that we had a lovely holiday and enjoyed our trip to Sucily very much...
We stayed here in July 2016 as a group made up of two families. We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the villa. We spent the vast majority of our time outside in the peaceful gardens and pool area. The pool itself was a favourite with all the children and adults. It has a diving board and is 3 meters deep at one end.
The upstairs of the main house is very modern and finished to a good standard. The downstairs is a little more rustic especially the kitchen. If there was one area I would suggest needs improvement then it would be the kitchen. Lets just say we missed a dishwasher. We also used the annex building as another bedroom again this is a little dated.
However the whole property has lots of charm and character. We would definitely stay here again. The owners were always very accommodating and quick to help with any questions or issues.
Thank you for a great holiday.
We arrived in Casa Mareneve on August 22. The kids did not want to leave the pool and we enjoyed the garden and the spectacular view. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. If we would come back to Sicily I would love to come back here. The dinner prepared by Mara was delicious. Thank you!
I wish I could write a more positive review, but we are not satisfied with our stay at Villa Mareneve. Upon arrival we were shown to a dark and damp bedroom and another bedroom so small it’s hardly suitable as a bedroom. None of these are presented in the pictures, and we naturally expected the bedrooms presented on the web site. Also, being a family of five people (including two children), we never expected to be separated into two different buildings, when we easily could have stayed in the main building. Two of us were shown to a bedroom in a separate building – why?
When we objected to the house owner and asked for the bedrooms we had seen on the web site, we were told all kinds of odd stories: There are no mattresses on the beds, the rooms are not finished until August, there’s a smell in the rooms. After a lot of discussion and phone calls, the owner finally gave us one (!) of the rooms. And as it turned out – there was in fact mattresses on the beds, there was no smell, the room looked exactly as in the pictures. But we still had to use the dark and damp room, and we were still separated into two differently buildings. The following days the discussion about the rooms went on, and on the fourth day of our stay, we were offered another of the bedrooms we had seen in the pictures – it was also exactly as displayed. Sadly, we were not offered the third bedroom on the same floor - instead we had to use the one in the separate building. We also never got to use the nice bathroom on the same floor, as it allegedly was under repair. But looking through the windows it was obviously not the case – it seemed just fine. Instead we had to use another bathroom where the hot water was lukewarm and the drain in the tub hardly could flush the water.
I’m puzzled why we had to go through all this trouble when we instead could have gotten what is presented in the pictures on the web site. Had that been the case, we would have had no trouble and this review would have been very positive. Is it too much to expect what you are presented with during the sales process?
A few other notes:
- Wi-Fi didn’t work until the third day, and was unstable rest of the time
- Garbage cans were not empty upon arrival
- The water heating system is very noisy and annoying
- The kitchen could use a severe refresh and upgrade
- Cleaning could be better
- No mattresses for sunbeds
Tip: Be sure to arrive in a small/medium sized car! The driveway from the road to the house is very narrow.
We had a wonderful time in Sicily in Casa Mareneve. La Casa Mareneve e situato molto bene , pulito e comodo. Si trova tutto e la picina e veramente un sogno. Grazie per la ospitalita.
The gardens and pool area were absolutely lovely with lots of shade and sitting areas but I feel most holidaymakers would prefer sunloungers to the chairs provided. This would give guests the chance to put their feet up and get an all over tan (both front and back). In addition, I think a few inexpensive facilities inside the house could immensely add to the comfort of visitors. In particular, an electric kettle, wine glasses, mugs, local maps and perhaps a 'house book' with recommendations for restaurants, supermarkets, etc (usually supplied by other owners) would enhance staying at the house. The fridge was also a bit 'tatty' and could do with replacement. On the plus side there was plenty of storage, the house was very clean and we received a very warm welcome from the owner's daughter.
The house is located on a very quiet road on the outskirts of town and is conveniently near the motorway. The town is not that attractive and lacks good restaurants but there are many places to visit nearby.
Santa Venerina is a perfect base from which to explore eastern Sicily. The village lies halfway between Catania and Taormina and just 15 km from Acireale (a pretty little city, built on a plateau of lava, that is known for its Baroque churches). Gardini Naxos, a seaside resort with a sandy beaches, is just 25 km from Santa Venerina (15 minutes with the highway). Next to Giardini Naxos we find Taormina 'the pearl of the Mediterranean' and the most exclusive seaside resort in Sicily. Its ancient Greek theatre is world famous for its extraordinary panoramic views. Pozzillo, Santa Maria la Scala are Aci Trezza are pleasant seaside villages near Santa Venerina. The nearest can be found in Praiola (7 km), a wild pebbled beach next to an impressive cliff.
