Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Saint Austell - Gribben View

2 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4

Gribben View is well furnished and equipped. The cottage is well positioned for most Cornish attractions and has the benefit of being situated in the middle of Porthpean Golf Club (discounted weekly membership available).

Front door opens into entrance hall with stairs to first floor. Open plan living room with sitting area, comfortably furnished with two leather sofas, uplighter lamp with reading lamp, CDs, books & games, TV with Freeview & DVD/CD player, iPod/iPad dock and digital radio. There are large French doors with far reaching views over the bay. The dining area has a table with 4 chairs. The kitchen is very well equipped. Also on the ground floor is a large bathroom with bath, basin and WC (very handy when you return from the beach or a muddy walk)

The view from the master bedroom equals that from the patio! The master bedroom is a huge room, with the second bedroom smaller but still spacious. There is also an upstairs shower room with WC.

Parking for 1 car. Non-smoking

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only
  • pets not allowed

Why Shona Blake chose Cornwall

We chose the cottage because we fell in love with the view! When we drove in at the top of the drive we said to one another that the cottage was going to have to be falling down for us to not want to buy with a view like that.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has to have one of the best views in Cornwall. Even the very expensive houses in Carlyon Bay don't have as good a view of St Austell Bay. Now that our boys are growing up and playing golf, the benefit of having a golf course on our doorstep is huge, and the course is great. It's effectively both a parkland and links course, with 9 holes of each!

A Perfect Place to Stay

A perfectly situated, well equipped home from home, very clean and welcoming. We're lucky to have found it and it completed a very enjoyable visit to Cornwall.

blissful and oh what a view!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was lovely, clean exceptionally well equipped and comfortable. The owners had done all they could to make everything as straightforward as possible - instruction manuals for every piece of household equipment, folders with info, maps of the surrounding area, wifi provided etc. The position and views were wonderful and we had all our meals outside overlooking the sea - bliss (we were very fortunate with the weather). Having never been to Cornwall before, we were not sure what to expect but were blown away by the beauty of the coastline and surrounding countryside. The cottage is about 5 mins drive from St Austell which had a number of large supermarkets. Porthpean beach was quiet, clean and a lovely safe beach for families with small (and not so small) children. However this beach may be unsuitable for elderly or infirm as although it takes less than 10 minutes to walk from the cottage, it is an incredibly steep walk down and perhaps more importantly back up! We do not play golf, but if you did, I think you would be delighted with the position of the cottage. Using the cottage as our base we visited Newquay beach, Lost gardens of Helligan (Wonderful - do go) and the outstanding Eden project. A most wonderful break.

Great place with a stunning view

  • 5 of 5

We had a most enjoying holiday in this very well kept house, spotless clean with good facilities. The rooms were spacious, beds, linen and mattresses very comfortable.

We enjoyed the near-by coast path and a small sandy beach in walking distance. Very quiet and nice to watch the sea or the golfers.

We'd definitely come again if we went to Cornwall another time.

Best place to stay in Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

For the second year running, we had a fantastic stay, and we are hoping to return next year again.

The cottage is perfectly situated with sea/golf course views, and is close to the beach. It was very easy to access places of interest to suit all the family/different tastes.

It was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Communications with the owners was easy, and arrival/departure arrangements were uncomplicated.

We organised an ASDA delivery for the afternoon of our arrival which also went without a hitch.

We would be as pleased to stay here in winter as we are in the summer.

A home from home next to the sea!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage exceeded all expectations! Very well equipped and comfortable, with spectacular views over St Austells Bay. Town and facilities are close enough to be handy but far enough away to forget about! This cottage well placed for exploring all that Cornwall has to offer, but is also a wonderfully relaxing place to stay close to- we loved watching the tall ships come and go along the coastline! Everything was beautifully clean and well maintained, and we fond the locals very friendly and accommodating. The allocated parking area is a nice helpful touch! I have recommended this cottage to friends and family already - but already wondering screen we can go back again ourselves!

Porthbean cottage

  • 5 of 5

what a cracking location, overlooking St.Austell Bay and within walking distance, via the cliff path, of Charlestown harbour - which usually has 2 or more square riggers moored up and has featured in many films.

The cottage is surprisingly spacious - large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms/shower rooms, and is well kitted out. Those in the main bedroom should make a point of getting up at dawn to watch the sun rise over the bay.

The website photos do not do justice to this cottage and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone thinking of holidaying in the St.Austell area - and that is praise indeed from an old St.Austell boy!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. We agree about the location, it was the main reason we bought the cottage, and still can't believe our luck in finding it. Will try to get some better photos to do the views justice!

Car: recommended

1 mile from the main road through St Austell, Gribben View is located above the 17th fairway of Porthpean golf course, giving amazing panoramic views of St Austell Bay and the Gribben peninsula. Close to Porthpean beach and several other south coast beaches but also convenient for north coast beaches and most of Cornwall's tourist attractions.
