Places: Halfway between Rome and Naples, on the ancient Via Appia that led the Romans from the north to the south of the peninsula, lies the Lazio municipality of Fondi, a town of about 36 thousand inhabitants in the heart of the southern pontine, in the province of Latina . Set on a plain bearing the same name, shaded by the Monti Aurunci and Ausoni, Fondi faces the southern side towards the fresh blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Along the coast, in a suggestive area that has been defined as a natural monument, opens the coastal lake of Fondi, with its characteristic crescent shape and connected to the sea through two canals, the Sant'Anastasia and the Canneto: the alternation of the tides in some moments the Tyrrhenian invades the basin of the lake, causing a continuous change between fresh and salt water.
To frame the lake, and to divide the city from the waves, stretch 13 km of sandy and golden coast, stretched like a shiny ribbon between Terracina and Sperlonga. Inland, in some areas, the ground ripples in the characteristic coastal dunes, gentle and sinuous hills and typical vegetation.
To enjoy the best of the beaches and coves, visitors to Fondi can count on a temperate Mediterranean climate, ideal for summer holidays but also for spring or autumn walks. The hottest month is August, with average temperatures between a minimum of 16 ° C and a maximum of 30 ° C, while in January, the coldest month, it goes from 1 ° C to 11 ° C. The rains, rather poor in the summer, are mainly concentrated in the autumn and winter, and reach the peak in November, with an average of 202 mm of water.
