Then relax in the quiet, peaceful and private setting of the Alto Guest House, a southern Illinois vacation house/cabin rental. Two bedrooms with one queen and two twin beds. A loft is available with two twin inflatable mattresses. Kitchen has microwave, electric stove, dishwasher, refrigerator and some small appliances. The dining area comfortably sits six people. The large 24 x 8 foot deck spans the rear of the house overlooking the fenced-in yard and the woodlands below. Outdoor spa/hot tub private with deck. A Southern Illinois Cabin Vacation Rental.

Great fenced-in yard for your dog.

Directions: 15 miles from Carbondale, the Alto Guest House is located just outside the Village of Alto Pass. From Alto Pass go west towards Bald Knob. The Peach Barn will be on your right. Stay on the road to your right, Milligan Hill Road, for about two miles. There is a sign "Alto Guest House" right next to the driveway.

We are 15 miles SW of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We did have a wonderful anniversary and a nice weekend. Our dogs loved the yard. We will be sure to recommend the Alto Guest house for anyone exploring the Shawnee wine trail and Southern Illinois. Thanks again!

Great place to stay to visit wineries and bring your dog!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay during a long weekend. It’s an old farmhouse that is in a good location. It feels secluded, but not far from wineries and restaurants. Sadly, we had snow and extreme cold weather during our visit, but there is a nice deck, hot tub, and back yard to enjoy in nicer weather. We were surprised to find bacon, eggs, milk, and bagels in the fridge for our use which was a great touch. The kitchen basically had everything you need to stay in if preferred and they had plenty of other amenities. This is also a perfect place to bring your dog since they have a fenced in backyard. We would stay here again!

3 Star - Needs some work

  • 3 of 5

If you are looking for a romantic getaway, probably not the place to stay. You can tell it is a very old house. The cons are - carpets need replaced, the shower head needs moved up higher (I am only 5'5 and had to squat down to shower), the mattress in the master bedroom is worn, comfy but you slide to the middle, the TV could be better the first day we planned on staying in and watching tv, however, we could not get the dish to turn on, we called Lee 3 times and he called us back the next day but by then we had figured it out.

The pros - in 5 to 10 minutes you can be at 3 different wineries, the hot tub was hot, loved the gas grill, there is a good fire pit area, there were eggs and bacon in the fridge, the bath towels were clean and very soft.

Great house and property for a long weekend getaway in wine country.

Close proximity to most of the wineries. Lee is a very thoughtful renter. You definitely won’t need for much while staying here. Very comfortable home with a great backyard for the furry friends.

Very nice place is a wonderful peaceful location.

  • 5 of 5

The place was very clean and comfortable. Owners left breakfast food and snacks. Everything was easy to find in the kitchen. Lots of space in the house. Owners went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. The hot tub was perfect. I would definitely love to stay here again.

This quaint home offers a beautifully peaceful, quiet, private setting with very accommodating host

  • 4 of 5

This is a great quiet hideaway spot! A colorful history of an original Sears "kit" home endears the guest into looking with a whole new set of eyes. The host(s) thoughtfully provided the makings of a great bacon and egg breakfast for your first morning's meal. The hot tub was a huge added luxury for aching muscles after hiking the multitude of National Forest Trails a short drive away. Lee provided some local history, as well as recommending several excellent dining venues that lived up to the expectations. Clean and comfortable with a personable and friendly host.
