About this property

Luxury Cornish Character Cottage

Hobbacott Farmhouse is set 4 miles from the beautiful North Cornwall coast, just outside the picturesque village of Marhamchurch. The recently renovated farmhouse is perfect for chilled escapes, ideal for small groups (sleeps 6), surfers, yogis, walkers, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone looking to capture the magic of the Cornish coast whilst avoiding the tourist traps!

The farmhouse has recently been renovated to offer stylish modern comfort whilst retaining its gorgeous period touches. All the beams and fireplaces are original - we have added wonderful new wood burners and modern heating to help get the balance right.

We have decorated with rich jewel colours and luxury textures to accent the cosy feel of the place, whilst integrating handmade and local artisan art & craft for a personal touch. The bathrooms have been completely refitted whilst working around the beautiful existing woodwork.

The farmhouse is 3 bedroomed, each room sleeping two people. We hope it feels right for groups of couples, families, or those visiting for surf and outdoor adventures. There's a private courtyard out back..

I live in Newquay so near enough for emergencies and always on the phone regardless. I used to live in the property so know the Bude area well and can answer any random questions specific to the cottage.

Lovely cottage
We had a really good stay in a cottage which was much larger than we were expecting. It was lovely and clean throughout and had the essentials to help keep it that was for the week stay. The fireplaces are a real feature in the lounge and dining rooms. The showers were amazing, so much power, great to wash away the day.

Fantastic property
This property was amazing. Had everything we needed to make it a home from home experience. Beds were extremely comfortable and showers were amazing! The patio is quaint, secluded and perfect for a BBQ. The quirky cottage features and wood burning stoves were lovely. The courtyard setting is very picturesque with a good view of the neighbours horses. It was a great location for exploring and a short drive to stunning Bude. We will definitely be back and the hosts were easy to communicate with and they left some lovely welcome touches too.

Lovely farmhouse in the countryside
The farmhouse was lovely- clean, comfortable and much bigger than expected. The bedrooms and bathrooms were awesome and the kitchen was well equipped. You really have to drive rather than walk directly from the house but it is a great bass for exploring North Devon. Everything went smoothly and we had a lovely relaxed week. Thank you!

About the host

Host profile image
I'm a yoga teacher and event producer, based in Newquay by the waves of the north Cornish coast.
I have spent my career as a producer travelling, collecting pictures, fabrics, food and almost anything I can on my wanderings, so my home reflects all the places I've been, and how much I loved them - I love to look around my space and see little pieces of all my experiences. But now I now focus on my yoga and healing businesses, and have created a peaceful, simple space designed as an antidote to a long career in a stressful and shouty world. My home is ultra serene and a perfect retreat from day to day stresses.
I love cooking, yoga, music, candles and coconut, and you'll find plenty of all of these in my home AND my travel bag.
I believe in living collaboratively and sharing experiences, and love the spirit of shared travel. I always hope to meet people that feel the same, and respect the amazing opportunity of living like a local all over the world.

Why they chose this property

Mum & Dad fell in love with Cornwall 40 years ago when they honeymooned just down the coast in beautiful Port Gaverne. For years they harboured the dream of their own escape in the magical southwest, and in 2017 finally happened across Hobbacott Farmhouse, a little piece of magic nestled in the countryside. Close enough to the amenities and beaches of Bude, but still wonderfully tranquil and disconnected from urban noise, it made the perfect holiday retreat. Just short of their Ruby Wedding anniversary in 2018, the house was completed, closing a perfect circle from their first visit to Cornwall in 1978!
Keen to capture a slice of the coast Mum & Dad love so much, I decided to take time out of a busy career in fashion to come and stay the the farmhouse and oversee the redecorating and renovations. Needless to say, I never left - deciding to pack up my life in London and start life all over again here in Cornwall at a much slower and happier pace. Now I juggle working for a surf magazine with teaching yoga and managing the farmhouse for Mum & Dad.
The house is a blend of all our tastes - a mix of modern Scandanavian and midcentury aesthetics, yet staying true to the cottage heritage of the building. We’ve retained and taken cues from the period features and natural textures throughout. We’ve featured some of mum’s watercolours and my macrame work throughout the house too - and Dad painted and renovated most of it himself. It’s a true family effort.
It’s a magical world down here in Cornwall, and we hope you fall in love with it as much as we have!
