Lakeside House is a beautiful, Grade II listed house, dating back to the 19th century and set in a private location within the four acre grounds of the family run "Inn at Fossebridge", an historic 17th century coaching inn. Fossebridge is in the heart of the Cotswolds, located between Cirencester to the South and Stow-on-the-Wold to the North. Lakeside House contains various character features, including wooden beams, exposed stonework and a wood burning stove. Complementing these period features, the house has been decorated, furnished and equipped in a warm and cosy style, making the house a perfect holiday choice for families or groups of friends.

Lakeside House sleeps up to 10 people in 4 bedrooms - see bedroom configuration below. There is a family bathroom, an ensuite bathroom and a downstairs cloakroom.

The property benefits from having access to all of the Inn's services, including private dining facilities.

House Rules

Booking and payment

Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Security deposit

A security deposit of £300 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit.

The security deposit is payable upon arrival at the property and must be paid via a valid debit or credit card. Cheques and cash are not accepted for the payment of the security deposit.

Guests are specifically requested not to move furniture, or beds, around within the property and material failure to abide by this rule may result in a deduction of £100 from the security deposit.


The maximum occupancy of the property is ten guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than ten guests at the property.

Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by two additional infants.


Lakeside House accepts up to two well behaved dogs, at a cost of £20 per dog, per booking.

Dog treats, a dog bowl and a towel are provided for your dogs.

Bed linen and towels

Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.

Arrival and departure times

Arrival time at Lakeside House is after 3pm and departure time is by 11am.

If your arrival will be delayed beyond 8pm on the start date of your rental period, you must notify the Inn at Fossebridge. If you fail to do so, you may not be able to get into the property.

Bed sizes and configurations

Bedroom 1 (with en-suite bathroom): King size bed

Bedroom 2 (with wash basin): Two single beds

Bedroom 3 (with wash basin): King size bed. This room also contains a wooden cot for infants.

Bedroom 4: Four single beds

Two full size, single "Z" beds are also available, at a cost of £45 per bed, per booking. The Z beds can go in bedrooms 1 and 2, with space for one Z bed in each room.

Fuel and logs

Electricity and gas are included in the rental price. A basket of logs, firelighters and a scuttle of coal are provided for the wood burning stove and further supplies can be purchased from the Inn.

Services provided

Lakeside House has free wireless internet access and a TV with Sky and a DVD player. There is a second TV, with DVD player, in the large hallway, which makes a good play area for children. A coin operated payphone is available in the property. Vodafone customers can be added to the Inn's Sure Signal box, by notifying the Inn in advance.

Lakeside House has a private entrance and two driveways, with parking space for five cars.


Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services are available on request.

Child friendly facilities

A cot (without linen) and a high chair are provided in Lakeside House - the cot is located in bedroom 3. Additional cots and high chairs are available from the Inn, upon request (there is a £10 per night charge for an extra travel cot).

Initial consumables

A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.


Lakeside House is accessible to guests with limited mobility. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, one of which has an en-suite bathroom, and these bedrooms can be accessed via just three steps.

Health and safety

Lakeside House is an old property and has character features, such as low beams, which guests should be mindful of. The house has an enclosed front garden, however, parents should also be aware that the house is close to a lake.

The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.

Allergy sufferers should be aware that the duvets in Lakeside House are goosedown.

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the "Heart of England". The name Cotswold means "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides".

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Car: Lakeside House is easily accessed by car from all directions. It is located in the grounds of The Inn at Fossebridge, which is on the A429 (Fosse Way), approximately eight miles north of Cirencester and 11 miles South of Stow-on-the-Wold.

Train: The nearest railway station to Fossebridge is Kemble (approximately 12 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of less than 90 minutes.
