Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Gellywen - Maesteg Cottage

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4/5

Our pretty stone cottage is in the quiet hamlet of Gellywen, built around 1835. 10 miles west of Carmarthen. Surrounded by rolling green hills and wooded countryside, gentle sound of nearby river. 1 x Double bedroom, 1 with bunk bed, Sofa bed in living room. Goose & duck feather duvets/ pillows with white Egyptian cotton linen. Towels inc. LPG CH. Well equipped kitchen. Gas hob, Electric oven, Fridge, DW, Microwave, WM. Separate toilet. Bathroom - bath with shower over. Large living room with inglenook fireplace, wood burning stove with two seating areas. TV, CD, DVD player. WiFi. Cot and high chair available. Children welcome, but no top stairgate. Garden enclosed but small pond. Barbecue and garden chairs and table in season. Garden with lawn on lower level and terraced gardens above which are in process of restoration! Car essential. Parking for one car outside on lane, but more available nearby. No smoking and sorry no dogs. Usually Saturday changeover, but I'm adaptable, please ask! Also available for weekend lets out of season.

When we bought Maesteg cottage in 2009 it was in need of a lot of love and updating. We've endeavoured to take it back to a simple but comfortable country cottage with some exposed stone walls and tasteful colours and styling to suit a Welsh vernacular cottage of the early 19th century. The moment we saw the cottage, we fell in love with it and its beautiful location - a real 'chocolate box' cottage. The garden has in the past been dearly loved, but has become quite overgrown in recent years. As a 2011 Chelsea Gold medal winning garden designer, I will spend time over the next few years revamping the garden. You will find wonderful peace and quiet at our cottage (which also means that there is no mobile phone reception - but we do have a landline for emergencies). The lane outside is pretty quiet, mostly the sounds that you hear at the cottage come from birds in the trees and hedges and the sound of the nearby river.

Great Cosy Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed ( Myself, Husband and 2 daughters ) a great stay last week, exploring Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and a walk in and around Gellywen. The pretty cottage is surrounded in glorious countryside and not so far from the seaside, so a great location. The cottage was lovely with most evenings spent by the fire. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and a joy to cook a breakfast or two in!!. We will definitely be visiting again and would definitely recommend to others.

Cosy Christmas weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Kati's cottage during the Christmas break. We wanted to spend a quiet and cosy time by the fire and that is exactly what we did! :)

The cottage is great, it has everything you would need. The description of the cottage in the website is absolutely accurate and the place was spotless. Kati is a great host, quick to reply and happy to provide information - she even left us a festive welcome gift :)

We didn't visit much of the area as it was raining most of the time, but staying in was our main plan! :)

We absolutely loved our stay and we're thinking of returning in the summer.

Fantastic week and lovely cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week in Wales, packed a lot in with the kids, found some great beaches (highly recommend barafundle) and some great walks too (four waterfalls walk) in Brecons... It was so nice to come back to the cottage at the end of the day, it was cosy and had everything we needed. Would definitely go back!
