"Hi paul, thanks for your help with our holiday,we had a excellent stay, perfect training routes for running for me and the weather was kind to us not to hot and not to cold, not very touristy, nice and quiet, nice and clean. Nothing we didnt like. When we first viewed the Villa the first thing my wife said was that she could live in that accommodation! So that says it all!
Learn more about this vacation rental at the manager's website:
The villa is situated in banana groves about 150m from the road and the shore. Access is via a path which incorporates a lot of steps so not ideal with heavy luggage. Car parking is on the road which is a cul-de-sac so there is very little traffic.
The villa is very spacious with large rooms, all of which face south-west towards the sea. The lower floor is open plan with a sitting room and a well-equipped kitchen and dining area. There is also a small toilet. The two bedrooms upstairs have en-suite bathrooms and balconies. Due to the south-west orientation, the afternoon sun shines directly on the balconies and the terrace so they are ideal for sitting and eating or doing a spot of sunbathing.
Paul, the manager, is very helpful and gave us a lot of advice on local facilities and excursions.
A car is probably essential because the village shop appears to be closed and the nearest supermarket is about 10 minutes away in Calheta. There are, however, a number of restaurants and cafes in the village.
We loved the cozy village Paul do Mar; it was calm and we almost felt like we were the only tourists there. The landscape is beautiful and there are a lot of things you can do. We followed Paul and Iva's recommendation and booked a whale watching tour with Lobosonda in Calheta which was amazing, they really cared about the animals and environment. We also went hiking, there are very nice routes starting in Paul do Mar, but we also loved Caldeirao Verde for a full day trip. You will need a rental car (next supermarket is in Calheta, about 15min from Paul do Mar) and I was glad that we upgraded from a VW Polo to a Megane at the airport because of the inclines. Many thanks to Paul and Iva who were lovely and had many good tips and recommendations and always a fast answer for any question, for example when we decided to go surfing - we went to Porto da Cruz (1h drive) 5 times because the recommended surf school was great. Driving to Funchal was also easy, the roads are very good - we were amazed at all the work people put into construction of tunnels etc.
The house has really everything you need! The neighbours were super friendly and even gave us bananas from the farm for free. I personally liked that the house was not directly at the ocean/street because it was more quiet - you still hear the ocean and have a perfect ocean view especially from the 2 balconies. We also enjoyed the garden barbecue!
Lovely house in a beautiful location. Nicely welcomed by Paul we had a lovely stay in Paul do Mar. The house is located in a former Banana Tree plantation with a beautiful panorama view over the ocean. Clean house, good beds & bedrooms all oceanfront facing the house was nice and cool. All appliances where there including dishwasher. Paul do Mar is located near the ocean and at the sunny side of Madeira. You need a car but with a car everything is very good reachable and nearby. In the city itself (old fisher town) you have some restaurants all at walking distance. We usually ate at a very good fish restaurant that served fresh fish. All in all a very lovely place with no downsides if you like a beautiful house with a peaceful stay.Lovely house in a beautiful location.
We spent 1week in january 2016 in this house. Location is very quiet. House is very comfortable and well equipped (but there is no dishwasher machine), it has fantastic view from second floor. Also it has very good barbeque area. We like this house very much and can stongly recommend it.
Paul gave us a lot of usefull information and satisfy our wishes about baby chair and bed. And special thanks to Paul for a coffeemaker. It was very good.
For information - if you leave some food at the open area of the house for the night you will see a lot of ants on it in the morning.
There is a small minus with a car parking. You must go from parking aboute 150 meters up. It was not easy with a little baby, carriage and some bags.
We spent 2 weeks in late summer 2015 in this house. It was a perfect accomodation for a family with up to 2 children. The house with a contemporary minimalistic architecture was perfect all in one, luxory inventory and bathrooms. The outdoor kitchen fantastiic for barbecue fanciers. There was all stuff to live as at home. The house was absolutely clean and all in function. Iva and Paul Abbiati gave us a warn welcome with useful advices for activities.
Location and garden beautiful in the midst of a banana plantation, very quiet. The sole hurdle was to reach the house from the car parked at the quayside 200m. Paul do Mar is one of the warmest places on the island. All around a perfect stay and a reason to revisit.
This was wonderful. Not only the modern house and stunning views, but the village was ideal lacking serious development and maintaining some of its original character. It was easy to get to and good base for exploring the western part of Madeira. I now love bananas after kind soul left massive bunch outside the house one day. Thanks to Iva for meeting us and Paul for clear communications
