Great for families, especially little ones
We were 6 adults and 3 young children on this family week. The house was well equipped, roomy and the pool area was ideal. We especially liked the 3 different areas outside for dining and drinking as well as the ping table! While there was no air conditioning (which may matter to some folks) we found the fans and open windows served us well. We would recommend this house to our friends without reservations. Down the hill from the house was a great Gelateria (Silvias) as well as great thin crust wood fired Pizza at La Piazzetta (oddly not in tripadvisor). The food mart Simply was around the corner from Piazetta- all of these were within 10 minutes of the house. We must note the owners as well as their property manager Gina were highly responsive and also accommodated our needs for cribs and high chairs. A 5 star recommendation.
La Camélia- fabulous group location!
Gréât location! Sun all day! Fabulous outdoor space no air con needed as it cooled down in evening - each couple had their own bathroom except top floor where one room has 3 single beds with 2nd room master! Lots of fans! Quiet within house! Easy drives to Lucca, Pisa, Florence and even did cinque terre! Because you are in mountains internet was a bit come and go. It was a perfect location for our family with thrift amount of privacy and gathering spots! The chef Morena made us a spectacular dinner at a very reasonable price! We had a yoga session on the grass in the morning! The local gelato and pizza spots were great and we went to a local butcher in Lucca to buy beef which we bbq’d which was fantastic. All in all terrific! Thank you
Perfect family holiday home.
We, 6 adults and 5 children had a wonderful holiday. The children's pool was a real bonus. End of season housekeeping issues were a bit irritating, parasols broken, couple of chairs with wobbly legs, non functioning second refrigerator. We had a chef come to cook a birthday meal which was the highlight of the holiday, highly recommended. Certainly a good choice overall!
I’m glad you had a wonderful holiday and sorry to hear that a few items needed attention. On receiving your comments the parasols were replaced immediately, the chairs were repaired.
The fridge, which was a back-up for some previous guests who requested it, was removed. I’m glad you enjoyed having the chef come to the house. It is indeed a treat!
Really lovely and relaxing
The property was perfect for 10 people. The kitchen was well equipped. Pool area really good as were the outdoor eating areas. Would be nice to have some comfy sitting area however. The slight downside is the villa is situated up a winndy hill so eating out was a bit of a drag. Overall we loved staying in la camellia. There’s so much to do around. We visited Lucca, got the train To Florence ( realised however you can drive and get a tram into the centre) drive to sam Gimignano, and cinque terre. The beach at camiaorie is worth visiting. We also had a lovely meal cooked by a local chef!
Thank you very much for your review Wendy, we're glad you enjoyed your stay.
Lovely place to stay
La Camelia is a lovely place to stay. the villa is well equipped and comfortable. The garden and pool are great too. There was plenty of room for our family of 8 adults and 2 children. The table tennis was a bonus, we had great fun with that. Les and Alex were prompt and helpful in responding to any queries, I would not hesitate to recommend La Camelia as a lovely place to stay that is conveniently located to Lucca and day trips further afield. We got the train to Florence from Lucca which was very easy and avoided having to find parking there.
Thank you very much for such a lovely review.
What a fantastic and beautiful authentic villa tuc
What a fantastic and beautiful authentic villa tucked away In the Tuscan Hills - we loved it at first sight!
We were three generations from 5 to 74 years old living at this old charming villa for 14 days in june/July 2018. The kids spent most of their time in the two wonderful pools and played with the nice local dog “Uma” and the adults where having a relaxing and Nice time along the pool or nearby in the cooler areas by the pergola etc.
We made wonderful dinners by the grill, using the herbs from the garden, and also had the available House chef prepare an amazing authentic tuscan dinner one night. Other days went with exciting trips to Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Portofino and Grotto del Vento.
Gina the House agent and her crew were very helpfull during all of our vacation. Big plus.
The Bad: The villa was burglarized a day when we were out for a couple of hours - iPhones, iPads, camera, passports etc. were stolen from us - the two robbers (that we saw rushing away on a scooter) came into the villa using a screwdriver on the patio door. Reinforced patio door and a house safe for guest valuables would be a plus to prevent others from that unpleasant experience.
Wifi was bad at the villa and we had to buy extra after the first week - something that should be included and work at a better speed.
To sum it all up: It’s a really wonderful villa at a beautiful location which I would recommend to everyone and bring my family to again - that is if the villa got a safe to secure valuables while sightseeing, and better wifi.
We are so pleased that you had such an enjoyable holiday and loved the house; you were wonderful guests.
We were so very sorry about the break in. The house has never previously been burgled in our ownership. We had a locksmith and carpenter on site immediately the next day, and the house manager was happy to make sure you were accompanied to the police station.
Deeper locking mechanisms have been fitted to the doors and a hotel 'safe' is a great idea. Thank you.
The WiFi! It is a rural location and satellite has been the only viable option. This year however, we are pleased to say we can fit a fixed broadband line so guests will have full, unlimited connectivity for the 2019 season.
'La Camelia' is 15 mins from the centre of Lucca, within easy reach of Pisa, Florence, Siena & the sea. The picturesque town of San Martino in Freddana is a 5 minutes drive & offers local food shops, supermarket, post office, pharmacy, bank, bars & restaurants serving the best pastas imaginable. There are typical Tuscan restaurants in the immediate area around the house - 'La Corte' & 'Valentino' in the villages of Loppeglia & Fiano, 'San Graziano' in San Graziano, & 'Alpino' in St Martino are among the nearest.
Lucca is a beautiful medieval city of great charm and historical interest, with everything you could want from cultural sights to great shops & restaurants. Puccini was born there and you can listen to daily concerts of his work in a 12th century basilia.
The beach resorts of the Versilian coast with their long sandy beaches such as Lido di Camiore, Forte Dei Marmi & Viareggio, are a 30 to 40 mins drive. Boat trips up the coast to the Portovenere & the Cinque Terre are available from La Spezia and Lerici.
The house is an ideal base for relaxing walks & scenic drives through the beautiful countryside, where you can discover charming villages, wonderful views & interesting historic sites.
Pisa is 40 mins drive, Florence 60 mins & Siena, 90 mins. Day trips to San Gimignano, Volterra & Carrara mountains are also accessible. Other places worth visiting are Vinci, Montecarlo, Montecatini & Barga.
