About Michelle Newman

I am the proud grandmother of 4. This is our family home where I live in the downstairs flat with my husband and we rent the two 1st floor flats and the log cabin at the bottom of our garden in a very secluded, private area. I am the retired director of a Drama School and I have also taught English all my adult life from age 16 to 55 from all over the world whereas my husband is a QC practising law in London and abroad.

Michelle Newman purchased this apartment in 1979

Why Michelle Newman chose Westminster and West End

This property is located in a very leafy area, close to some good schools and lovely parks, and yet is very accessible to the centre of London thanks to its multiple public transports facilities (Jubilee line from Willesden Green tube station, Bakerloo Line from Queens Park station, Silver Metro Link from Brondesbury Park overland station, and bus (206) route in front of the door.

What makes this apartment unique

This is a 1928 property with all the character features of that period and yet entirely renovated inside, so as to offer all modern comforts. We also benefit from the wonderful view of our back garden, which is the product of my passion for organic and wildlife gardening.

Just what we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just returned from what will surely go down as one of the most memorable Christmas vacations in our history. A large percentage of that wonderful memory can be credited to this charming property and its owners.

First of all, the pictures don't lie-it really is that nice! The living room/kitchen area has everything you could possibly need, is freshly updated, cozy, and most important for our family's sleep patterns, is separated from the rest of the sleeping areas by a good distance. The kitchen and living room can even be closed off from each other if you have someone in your group sleeping on the couch-which folds out for additional sleepers. We are a family of four with grown kids and did not find this necessary.

The bathroom has both a shower and a shower tub. Again, freshly updated. You'll find the washer and dryer under the counter in here. We travel light and made use of both. If you stay here you won't need the big suitcase.

The bedrooms are huge, the mattresses-we had to look, with no boxspring we couldn't understand why it was so comfortable, one of those memory foam mattresses, amazing. Plenty of storage.

All in all you can't go wrong with the 2 bedroom unit. I asked for a quick tour of the log cabin in the backyard, Alan couldn't take me inside as there were guests, but it is "nestled", yep nestled in the corner of an amazing backyard. If had a family of eight I would seriously consider renting all three units!

A word of caution, this property does require that the renter understand, or grow to understand public transportation, or be willing to walk. There are bus stops less then a block away, and the tube stop at Willesden Green is perhaps 6 blocks away. We simply downloaded both the bus and tube apps onto our phones and were fine. I would suggest downloading the Foursquare app as well. We found that many of the city's best food options were only blocks away.

In short-Just Do It. This is a good one!

Owner's Response: Dear Brad, We are so delighted to hear how much you have enjoyed all the comforts that our flat provided you with here in London. In fact, we feel quite overwhelmed by your amazing comments about the spaciousness offered by the flat, as well as all its facilities and its closeness to all public transports, restaurants, and shops. We are so happy that having seen the log cabin and the 1-bedroom flat next door to the one you stayed in, you feel it would be a good place to come back with all your family. Indeed, we very much look forward to welcoming you and your family in the near future. Have a very healthy and happy new year. Kindest regards, Michelle Newman

Appartement spacieux dans un quartier tranquille

  • 5 of 5

Large, pleasant apartment in convenient location

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of four (2 adults and 2 teenagers), from Georgia (USA) and stayed in the 2-bedroom apartment for over 2 weeks in June. It was reasonably priced and we were very satisfied with everything. The apartment was well managed, in a professional manner.

The flat was large, bright (great windows), attractive and comfortable, and very well equipped, with everything we needed. Lots of dishes and pans, for instance, plus dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, TV, etc.... Comfortable and large beds, pretty kitchen and living-room. Everything was very clean and well looked after.

The location is great. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the tube station (convenient for central London and all connections) in one direction ( look at the map and use the short cut, it took us a week to find it!) or to the overland train station in the other direction (direct to Kew Gardens). We took a train or the tube, every day, to different attractions in or around London, to visit museums, monuments, palaces, parks, etc... We even went to Cambridge for the day, catching a train from one of the northern train stations. We didn't need a car in London. We only rented one when we left London, to visit rural areas in southern England. We recommend the larger Sainsbury supermarket on the way to the tube station. It has some good food/products and the staff is very helpful and extremely pleasant. The flat is on a busy street, but thanks to double glazing, it is quiet.

The owners live downstairs but are very discreet. They respond very quickly to any problem and have it fixed straightaway. Communication was easy with quick and thorough replies to my emails by Mrs. Newman. If you need a cab to or from Heathrow airport, ask them for a recommendation. They were leaving for the airport at the same time as we were, and we used the same cab company. It was very practical, swift (1 hour), and reasonably priced.

We would happily stay here again, if we come back to London, and can only recommend this apartment to family and friends. Thank you, Mrs. Newman, for taking good care of us.

Great base for a London stay

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week in the lovely large flat, a ten minute walk from the tube station. The description of the flat was accurate, it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed (and more). It was perfect as a base for a week in London, so we could have breakfast when we wanted and could cook something small in the evening if we wanted to take it easy. A large supermarket is nearby and a smaller one (open late) is on the way from the tube station. The management of the flat is very attentive and sorted a small problem immediately.

Best stay in London ever.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this apartment was faultless. We were 5 people, my mom, brother, girlfriend and sister in law. Our stay at the apartment was perfect.

The bus stop is almost outside the door, and the bus took us to the nearest grocery store and tube station (Queens Park) in one direction, and in the other direction we were brought right to Wembley (the NFL game at wembley, was the primary subject of our trip).

The apartment is just big as it says. There were more than enough room for all 5 of us. 5 out of 7 days we made dinner in the apartment, the nice kitchen made that possible.

The owner of the apartment were very flexible, and made it possible for us to check in early in the morning (Felt like it gave us almost one day more in London). Although we didn't had the need the contact them for any help, we felt like we were more than welcome to do that.

If you need a place there is in decent distance to the center of London - but not right in the backyard of Big Ben this is perfect. It took 30 minutes to get from our front door to Oxford Circus by tube and bus. In a cap from the apartment to the Queens Theater at Shaftesbury Avenue it only costed us 40£.

I can recommend this apartment to everybody. And if possible i will stay here at my next trip to London.
