About Cynthia Romance
Hi, I'm Cynthia. My spouse, Andy, and I have lived and worked in Payson since 1987. Together we have raised our children in this lovely little town. We continue to make our home just a few miles from The Romance Cottage, so are available to help our visitors get to know the area even better.
Cynthia Romance purchased this Cottage in 1999
Why Cynthia Romance chose Payson
This property is very special to the Romance family. We originally purchased it when Andy was starting up his engineering business. We have grown to value the unique flavor of Main Street, with a wonderful blend of longtime area families still living in nearby houses, combined with newer retail, services, and restaurants now available. The property needed to be rejuvenated when we purchased it. The yard was full of weeds and the house lacked modern utilities. We first added central air conditioning and heating and it became comfortable regardless of the variety of Payson seasons. We then put on a new roof, added irrigation, and created a handicapped accessible route between parking and the front door. We were honored to win a statewide competition for work accomplished on the property in 2006. The Arizona Department of Commerce recognized the property as #1 in Medium Scale Renovation. We have since made even more improvements.
What makes this Cottage unique
As we restored the property, an amazing detail was being revealed. Still barely surviving amongst the weeds and neglect was 100 year old plantings. The vines were nurtured back and are today vigorously growing. The property has pockets of shady retreat because of large Oak, Walnut, and Elm trees.

What a great property. Very clean, perfect location and the owners are wonderful. They gave us great suggestions on places to eat, hike and on visiting the Grand Canyon. Don’t hesitate to book this little gem.....you won’t be disappointed. Thanks again!!!
Charming. And Comfortable
Loved this Olderhome beautiful decor it throws you back in time. Very nice back porch to enjoy morning coffee and see occasional elk . Would definitely stay here again
Nice home with plenty of space in good location
We really liked this home. It was very clean, is in a good location, and has plenty of space. The pictures in the listing accurately represent the condition of the home. The owner was very responsive to questions we had prior to our stay.
There were only 4 of us but the home would easily accommodate 6 at the right time of year. The sun room has a day bed with a trundle underneath. Our stay was in the summer. The combination of the central air and fans kept the sun room very comfortable along with the rest of the home.
The sun room is a great space running the entire width of the home. There are books and games there as well. The front porch also runs the width of the home.
There is a park within walking distance of the home and a local bar in the other direction about the same distance. It is less than 5 minutes to routes 87 and 260.
We had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to others.
