Why Janet Hamilton chose Newcastle

Simply....the views are second to none! We have travelled the world and stayed in many wonderful places but the view of the mountains and the bay at Dundrum captured our heart. We plan to retire there and can't imagine ourselves ever parting with it! It has been our pleasure to share it with guests from all around the world and many return each year, sometimes twice or three times a year to enjoy it! I think it has captured their heart also!

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is one of only three properties at The Quay which have floor to ceiling corner windows taking in both the views of the Bay and the Mountains. We may be bias but we believe we chose the best spot! It is bright and spacious and as soon as you walk in through the doors, we guarantee you will relax! It is totally calm and peaceful and it wouldn't be hard to lose track of time kicking back and enjoying the ever changing views. We take pride in how we present the apartment for our guests and the furnishings, artwork, bedlinen etc are all of good quality. Believe me, we want you to have a wonderful experience and to enjoy your stay at the apartment as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received these lovely comments on a "thank you" card from our recent guests "Dear Janet, We had a really lovely holiday at your wonderful apartment. It is so comfortable and convenient and we will never forget the views of the bay and mountains. There are so many nice places close to Dundrum and we enjoyed walks at Murlough and around the mountains and the weather was mainly good. Many thanks for everything. Best wishes to you and your family"

perfect stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 14 days in the apartment. We were only 2 . So we could really enjoy the spacious apartment. The interior was beautiful all was clean and nice decorated.

Close to very good restaurants in Dundrum - walking distance . More of course in Newcastle. A lot of things you could do from Dundrum. the House complex was absolutely quiet. Exact what we needed. Stayed last week of august- first week september.

Wonderful, homely and spacious apartment with stunning views of Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains

  • 5 of 5

We booked this property on the strength of the beautiful photographs on the website and we were not disappointed! The quality of the apartment and the views of the surrounding area were every bit as stunning as the marketing photographs suggest.

As a family of 4 we really loved the fact that the children had their own bedrooms and plenty of internal space to play in during the times we were in the apartment. The selection of toys and games provided were also a pleasant surprise (particularly for our 5 year old boy who loved the toy lightsaber!), as were the wine and chocolates which had been left for us on arrival.

The apartment is well appointed, spacious, clean and perfectly located as a base for exploring the local coastal area, excellent local restaurants and the Mountains of Mourne. It is also handily place for accessing Belfast (only 40 minutes away) and Dublin. I would strongly recommend this property as a beautiful base from which to explore Northern Ireland.

This spacious, luxury 3 bedroom apartment offers stunning, uninterrupted mountain and bay views. This is a superb spot for bird-watching and seal-spotting. There is a beach right at your doorstep and you are a short walk to the nature reserve of Murlough Bay and the ruins of Dundrum castle which offers superb views and is great for picnics. The nearby village contains a supermarket, antique shops, beauty salons and some renowned restaurants. You're in Ireland so there are plenty of pubs within walking distance! A short drive away will take you to the town of Newcastle at the foot of the Mournes and Castlewellan where you have access to any number of outdoor activities, golf, fishing, mountain climbing, canoeing, abseiling, sailing, mountain biking, tennis etc. Newcastle has a heated outdoor swimming pool during the summer months. You are a 30 minute drive to Strangford Lough, 40 minutes to Belfast ,1.5 hrs to the stunning Antrim Coast and Giants Causeway and 2 hours to Dublin.

Golf: Royal County Down is one of the oldest and most renowned Golf Clubs in Ireland with traditions dating back for more than one hundred years. In 2007 the Walker Cup matches were held here. Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, 'The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea', Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding. Alongside the Championship Links, Royal County Down has a second course, The Annesley Links. Laid out beneath the same massive, almost menacing backdrop, the Annesley Links is nowhere near as intimidating or as formidable a challenge as the Championship Links, but then it was never intended to be. It is a course for everyone. (Extracts from the official Royal County Down Golf Course website). For further details tel: (028) 4372 3314
