Carrot Houseboat on Lake Union

Bedrooms Studio
Space 225 sq ft
Property type house boat

About the property

Adorable 3 Person Houseboat

The Space...

This houseboat is comfortable place with all you will need - no amenity lost. Full kitchen, living space with sleeper sofa and table, bathroom with shower and toilet, wall heaters for cozy nights, 1 double size bed. Comfortably accommodates 2 people, with room for a 3rd on the main couch.

As for living on a boat, there is little like it, and I suggest you try it out. You might be looking at some shwanky pad as well, and that would be great, but this is a cool experience, a piece of Seattle history you should wear for a few days when you can. It's an opportunity to be around the mayhem that is water life during the day, and the peace and tranquility that floating can be at night.

- 1 double bed

- 1 space on bench seating for smaller person to sleep

- Full kitchen (refrigerator, stove, coffee press, kitchen essentials)

- Heated (wall heaters)

- Full bathroom (shower, toilet, sink)

- Wireless internet

- Kid friendly

- Indoor and outdoor breakfast/eating nook

- Deck and roof lounge area

- Parking out front the marina office building at a cost of $1 per hour. Weekdays, it is free before 9 am and after 4 pm. Weekends are free as well. Note: due to guest parking passes being taken by guests repeatedly, they are no longer available.

- Propane BBQ

- (5) kayaks - first come, first serve. No reservations available.

Guest Access...

You will have access to the place all yourself. I will have shower items for you, towels, sheets, etc.

Access to the boat is via a self-check in process. All access and reservation instructions will be included in the confirmation page after booking. In addition, we will email the houseboat manual as a PDF 5-7 days prior to your reservation.

Interaction with Guests...

Just a phone call away for whatever you need.

The Neighborhood...

The area sits conveniently close to downtown Seattle and tucked between Fremont and Ballard. For those checking out the city, this is a great location. For those on business, also super convenient and comfortable. The closest grocery store is about a mile away in Fremont (PCC) so keep that in mind.

Getting Around...

The marina is on a local bus line.

Other Things to Note...

- It's important to know that this is a boat and not a house, and that's its charm. While it does have everything you will need, its not like living in a house - doors are smaller, toilets are funny, stairs are steep, and sometimes the boat rocks.

- The ceiling height is not standard, max 7', plus there are a few smaller accesses to different parts of the house. If you are very tall, you may find this irritating. The stairs to the floor are steep and narrow as well. If you have physical difficulties, this may not be the best match.

- On occasion the toilet holding tank does get filled and it unable to be pumped on weekends. There are bathrooms at the marina for use, which I encourage. I will not offer any refunds if the holding tank does fill and is unable to be pumped. Of course, we will do our best, but there are limitations.

- I have 4 kayaks and 1 kayak/paddle board conversion available first come, first serve.

- There is a little cafe at the marina which does has WIFI, coffee, beer, wine. It is not open weekends.

- 5-7 days before your reservation the Property Manager will reach out via email to provide the houseboat manual and entering instructions.

Was horrible

  • 1 of 5

I chose this boat due to the reviews. My daughter and I had nothing but issues. Lights kept going out, couldn’t find the small Portable heater. The smell of mold. Yellow pillows and mattress. Owners manual that we where told to look at to resolve any issues. Also, trying to contact Derik for general questions and maintenance issues. We could not get a response through phone text or mail. Finally after the third time he responded. When arriving, I had questions and he then did not answer to any of my attempts of contact. When I called a local of Seattle to try to reach him, only then, would he reply.

It was a true experience but I will NEVER go down this path again. What a shame! We where looking forward to it!

Very disappointed

A great escape from a life of cookie cutter hotel rooms.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 7 nights on the Cozy Carrot and enjoyed the uniqueness of these accommodations. The entire experience was positive for us. My wife had lots to do during the day, and the return to our floating home was a perfect respite. The location made getting around Seattle a breeze, and we actually walked quite a bit rather than using motorized transportation.

The sleeping accommodations were very comfortable with just the right layers of bed covers and more than enough pillows. The kitchen was adequate, but the reality of being on a boat meant we had to live without the convenience of a toaster or microwave. Those were minor inconveniences in the experience, but not enough to leave us disappointed.

When you consider the nightly cost and the value of the experience, the Cozy Carrot earns very high marks from us.

Great Way to Experience Seattle

  • 5 of 5

You know - it was different. We always stay in great hotels or pretty cool houses - this is different - it's just an experience. I have always consider Seattle a "different" place, it is a city vibrant in diversity and in culture. It's tiny house living on a lake, central to some of the best neighborhoods. It allows you to experience Queen Ann, South Lake Union, Freemont...both shores...just a great area. The boat was comfortable and understandable in its simplicity. Beautiful place to hang out and recap your day with a local beer, wine, coffee, etc. Strait forward with dealing with management - easy! Really glad we made the choice to do something in-ordinary!
