About Troy & Laurie Danielson
Troy was born and raised in the Lanesboro area. He works as an Engineer for Minnesota Department of Transportation in Rochester. In his free time he enjoys hunting, fishing and just generally being outdoors. The Danielson family continues to maintain the original family farm nearby. Laurie grew up in west central Wisconsin on a small hobby farm. She works as a pharmacist for Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She loves living on the Root River and enjoys gardening, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and biking the Root River Bike trail. We stay busy with two kids who are active in sports year round. We feel fortunate to live in such a beautiful place and enjoy meeting our guests. We hope you enjoy your visit to the Lanesboro area.
Troy & Laurie Danielson purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Troy & Laurie Danielson chose Chatfield
The cabin site was once a heavily wooded pasture to a neighboring farm. The main cabin was built off site by local Amish and moved into place in 2001. The original log structure had seasonal indoor plumbing and an outhouse nearby. We purchased the property in 2011 and started work on the bathroom & laundry addition January 1, 2012. In keeping with the "rustic" feel of the cabin, finish work utilized recycled barn boards from Laurie's childhood farm.
What makes this Cabin unique
The pictures and many items in the cabin reflect our personal heritage. From the handmade quilt and embroidered or patched up dish towels from Grandma Christine to the barn pulleys and evener from the original Danielson family farm, all are reflecting the value of hard work and thriftiness instilled in us from our ancestors. We hope you enjoy the peace and beauty of Heritage Hideaway and are inspired to reflect on your own personal heritage.

Rich and I came for the wknd to celebrate his birthday. We loved every bit of our visit and plan on making another visit Fall 2019.
Quiet & relaxing. Charming. A perfect getaway.
We stayed 3 nights during a blizzard. It was the perfect retreat. The owners greeted us the first night and were back to plow us out in time for checkout. We loved everything about our stay. The set up is perfect. Spacious but cozy. Super comfy beds and bedding. Everything was clean and organized. The decor will immediately relax you and put you at peace. Highly recommended!
We wanted an out-of-the-way place for a winter retreat. We got it and more. Really great cabin, hiking on the property, extraordinary views, wildlife, great dining nearby, and peace and quiet. Troy and Laurie made everything super easy. Couldn't have been better!
Relax and Rejuvenate
This was our second year visiting Heritage Hideaway for my husband's birthday. We looked forward to this trip every day since last year!
The cabin is wonderfully cozy and quaint and provides an experience that encourages relaxation and rejuvenation. We spent our days quietly enjoying the scenery through the picture windows (we saw a plethora of beautiful animals), reading good books cuddled on the couch together under a plush blanket, leisurely hiking the trails surrounding the property, and basking in the warmth from the wood stove and each other. ;)
We can't wait to come back next year!
Secluded piece of heaven
My family absolutely loved our stay. We have a 5 year old who didn't miss screen time because she was too busy tracking critters on our hikes. There are so many lovely features and comforts, but our favorite was the big table for games and puzzles. We hope to rebook soon!
Heritage Hideaway is a wonderful & relaxing getaway!
Our family enjoyed a quick getaway before the holidays. Heritage Hideaway is tucked away on a beautiful property complete with scenic views & hiking. The cabin couldn’t be cozier or more relaxing. The owners pay attention to every detail to comfort and cleanliness. It was a pleasure to meet them. Each one of us enjoyed something different...the wood burning stove, comfy beds, the Christmas tree on the balcony, hiking, meat from the neighboring farm... we could go on & on... we will always treasure our time and memories made at Heritage Hideaway!
