THE VILLA:

Casa Bonita, situated on a cliff top on the western Algarve coast, is a magnificent 4 bedroom luxury, fully air-conditioned villa which affords panoramic sea views. From all rooms in the villa is a breath-taking, uninterrupted view of the coast from the cliffs at Lagos to the picturesque fishing village of Burgau.

The house lies just metres from the coast with access to a clifftop walk which runs for many kilometres along the coastline, taking you from the house east to the beach at Luz within 20 min walk and to Burgau to the west in around 40 mins. Finished to an extremely high specification this property is privately owned and self-contained within the seafront development of Porto Dona Maria.

The villa has paved terraces running the length of the front to make the most of the stunning views with 2 of the upstairs bedrooms also having their own large balconies. The pool deck area enables guests to make the most of the magnificent views whilst soaking up the sun or enjoying the sunset over a glass of wine.

AROUND THE VILLA: On all sides of the villa are planted gardens with a shaded car port at the front of the house. This is accessed through remote control electric gates. There is ample further car parking for a number of cars at the front of the villa. Porto Dona Maria is a beautiful resort with reception and 24 hour security. It has been built with a strong environmental focus. Great care has been taken in ensuring that the villas blend into their natural environment with each of the villas being built using natural products, sourced locally where possible. Casa Bonita features handmade Portuguese tiles around the house and pool area, and local timbers in the floors, kitchen and storage. The planting within the gardens is sympathetic to the surrounding landscape and uses flora natural to the local area. The location of the resort within the Western Algarve Conservation area means that beautiful walks lead all directions from the villa, along the cliff tops and surrounding countryside.

GROUND FLOOR: On this level is the spacious, light and airy lounge with comfortable leather sofas and armchairs providing seating for 8 people. The lounge has a 32” plasma screen television with satellite TV providing a range of UK & international channels, a hi-fi, PlayStation (which can be used as a DVD player) & a glass fronted wood burning stove.

Double width patio doors open onto a terrace overlooking the pool area with truly magnificent sea views. On this terrace guests can relax in the shade from the mid-day sun whilst enjoying the view or watching the kids play in the large 10m x 4m swimming pool.

The lounge is open plan to the dining room which features an impressive dining table with seating for 8 people. It has access to another outdoor shaded terrace with a further table seating 8 for alfresco dining. All of the outdoor terraces are lit to enable you to make the most of your time outdoors in the pleasant Algarve climate.

The hall leads to the fabulous modern well-equipped kitchen with large American style fridge/freezer, integrated microwave & oven, dishwasher and gas burner hob with built in cherry wood units providing excellent storage. The kitchen has all appliances you would expect including double toaster, coffee maker, kettle, crockery & cutlery for 16 guests and enough saucepans and ovenware to cater for meals for a large group. The kitchen has direct access through double patio doors to its own sheltered terrace and the BBQ area.

Views from all the outdoor terraces are stunning, and all of the rooms make the most of them with full length patio doors and additional windows making sure you can appreciate the location no matter where you are.

Also on this level: the utility room comprising washing machine, tumble drier, iron, ironing board & other cleaning equipment; and a separate cloakroom comprising toilet and wash hand basin.

Each of the living rooms is equipped with its own individually remote controlled air-conditioning units, although the design of the house means that the rooms stay perfectly cool without the need for air-conditioning for most of the year.

FIRST FLOOR: The first floor comprises the four spacious bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms has its own luxury bathroom, with a further cloakroom on the ground floor, making the house perfect for large families or groups to share.

The magnificent master suite with king bed has its own private balcony with stunning views along the Algarve coast, perfect for enjoying a lazy breakfast in the beautiful Algarve sunshine. The large patio doors to the front & windows to the side ensure this view can be appreciated from both inside & out.

The master suite has its own walk in dressing room with plenty of storage space which leads to a luxury ensuite bathroom. The bathrooms are beautifully finished, each with a feature wall using local Portuguese hand-made ceramic tiles. The master features magnificent double sinks with marble surround, well-lit mirrors and a large walk-in 'rain' style shower cubicle. It also has a separate bath with overhead shower, toilet and bidet. Each of the bathrooms has a heated towel rail and towels are provided for our guests' use.

The second master bedroom has a king size bed, built in storage and an ensuite bathroom. It has views out to sea from its “Juliet” balcony & to the east along the coast towards Lagos. The bathroom includes a bath with overhead power shower, large sink with marble surround, well-lit mirror and toilet.

The third bedroom has twin beds and also has its own private balcony with seating to enjoy the same stunning views towards Lagos and out to sea. This bedroom also has built in storage and its own bathroom which comprises a large walk-in 'rain' style shower cubicle, sink with marble surround, well-lit mirror and toilet.

A few steps lead to the final spacious twin bedroom which also has built in storage and an ensuite comprising large walk-in 'rain' style shower, sink with marble surround, well-lit mirror and toilet. This bedroom has views towards the west and of the evening sunset.

All the bedrooms feature beautiful hardwood floors & are tastefully decorated with ample linens & towels.

OUTSIDE: Whilst the inside of the villa is beautifully presented with all the facilities you need to make the most of your holiday it's the outside that we think you'll fall in love with! The views from all the terraces, balcony & pool deck are stunning and take in a panorama from the cliffs at Lagos, along the coast to the beach at Luz, the clifftop walk in the Western Algarve Conservation Park and finally west towards Burgau.

There are 8 reclining sun loungers available at Casa Bonita, along with 4 small side tables meaning you can set yourself up for a day of sun and relaxation around the spacious pool deck. The pool itself then provides the perfect refreshing dip when the day heats up and at 10m x 4m is large enough for the most avid of swimmers to get in a few lengths before lunch on the dining terrace. We think the villa has a perfect combination of shady terraces to seek shelter from the mid-day sun and other open space for the whole group to enjoy the year round Algarve sunshine.

The sheltered dining terrace with table seating 8 enables you to enjoy the sunset over a glass of wine, while the lighting on each of the terraces means you can stay out in the balmy Algarve climate late into the evening.

Outside the kitchen, along the edge of the garden, is the barbeque area, housing a fantastic extra-large brick barbeque newly built in 2013, which means you can comfortably cater for all the party outdoors.

The upstairs balconies lead directly off the bedrooms and are each furnished with 2 comfortable wicker seats and side table. They get the sun from early in the morning and are perfect for breakfast with some freshly baked local bread and Portuguese produce from nearby Luz, or from the small delicatessen on the resort.

On all sides of the villa are planted gardens with a shaded car port at the front of the house. This is accessed through remote control electric gates. There is ample further car parking for a number of cars at the front of the villa.

RESORT FACILITIES: Rental of Casa Bonita gives guests access to the many other facilities on the resort should you wish to use them, however most of our guests tell us they find they have everything they need in our own private villa!

Onsite resort facilities include a large communal salt-water swimming pool and separate children’s pool; the poolside 'Cabana do Pescador' (Fisherman's Hut) which serves drinks, light meals and a variety of dishes, both inside the cafe and on the outside terraces every day (opening hours vary with the season and it is normally closed in Winter); “L’Escargot” restaurant, featuring traditional Algarve dining with fresh local fish dishes as well as other tasty meat dishes, beautifully prepared starters and desserts.

The resort also has a small driving range and putting green for extra practice before the course.

Nearby in Luz, the local supermarket Baptista is great, offering a fantastic selection of fresh fish, meat, breads and cakes. It has some lovely restaurants including our favourites Forta Eleza (Sunday jazz lunch), The Dolphin and Pastelaria Chicca.

About Jennifer Turkington

Our family loves spending time at Casa Bonita. My husband and I are regularly at the property either ourselves or with varying members of our extended family (parents, siblings and children). The villa is great to spend time in on our own soaking up the views and relaxing in the sunshine (we've had some lovely weather even in December & January!). Its also great when it's full of the noise of the children playing, splashing in the pool and long lunches and dinners on the dining terrace.

Why Jennifer Turkington chose Lagos region

We fell in love with Casa Bonita on our first visit even though it was only half built at that point. The views are just amazing and our main thought in designing the house, garden and pool deck was in maximising those. We're a mixture of sun and shade lovers so we ensured we had a good balance of shaded terraces and deck area for the loungers.

We love this area, Luz is a beautiful village with cobbled streets, bars, restaurants, cafes and a gorgeous beach with childrens' play area. We also like to wander into Burgau and have a lazy lunch on the beachfront restaurant before a slightly slower walk home!

Lagos itself is beautiful to walk around, the cobbled streets are gorgeous and have any amount of great restaurants (Italia, Dom Sebastiao, Dom Henrique. We also like the marina and cafe Oasis. There's always street entertainment in the summer months and the beautiful old carousel in the centre of the town is a great hit with the children.

We think we're ideally situated here to have a little bit of peace and quiet but perfectly accessible for the towns (we often taxi into Lagos for a night out) and sightseeing further afield. We've travelled up to Lisbon and spent a night or two on different occasions and the motorway makes it an easy run up and back. We're also just over an hour from Faro airport and, again, the attraction of the easy motorway journey almost door to door appealed to us for long weekends and travelling with the grandchildren.

What makes this villa unique

Personally, my favourite bit of the house is the living room terrace. The views are just magnificent. We have it set up with cushioned outdoor sofas and I could easily spend a day there from breakfast when it's in sun, through to the best shade in the middle of the day and into the evening as the sun comes down and the moon shines out over the sea.

We put in windows along the west side a couple of years ago so that you can even sit out there if you get a cooler autumn or winter day!

The views from the master suite bedroom and balcony are also just breathtaking. We've had a number of our guest reviewers comment that waking up with that view has been the highlight of their stay.

Off season we get lots of golfers staying at the villa, as we are so well positioned for a range of championship courses (Boa Vista, Palmares, Villamoura, Pestana are all nearby). The villa works brilliantly for those who don't want to be based at a course but have them very near at hand. And because we have 2 master suites and all bedrooms have their own private bathroom we find it makes excellent value for groups of couples travelling together. We offer discounts off season for smaller groups too so don't hesitate to get in touch about those.

Top quality Villa in superb location

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting this part of the Algarve for some years and like Porto Donna Maria as a base. Casa Bonita is very well located, just a short walk from Praia Da Luz. Apart from a few sections of rough track, most of the walk can be made on pavements or for those who prefer, the coastal path provides spectacular views. Talking of views, the one from the pool terrace is hard to beat and provides an unobstructed view of the sea. One drawback to being on high ground is that it is often windy. It's not a problem when the wind is warm but a northerly can make sitting out a bit too chilly. There's a lovely covered veranda just outside the lounge with a glazed screen at one end which offers protection from the wind. This is a lovely spot for coffee, breakfast or a glass of wine.

The villa is modern and very well furnished. It is spotlessly clean, the beds are comfortable and the kitchen is stocked with ample supplies of chinaware and cooking pans. Shutters on all windows offer additional security but the villa is located in a peaceful residential area and feels very safe anyway., We found we could get UK TV channels via a set top box which isn't too common as many places with a Sky dish no longer have access to UK channels. The free wi fi is invaluable for keeping in touch with the outside world and friends back home. Phone reception was a little unreliable but easily re-established once away from the immediate vicinity.

We made extensive use of the BBQ, a proper Portuguese type fired by charcoal. The local supermarket in Luz, Baptista, stocks everything you need and the quality of meat there is superb. There's a nearby fishmonger sharing a shop with a patisserie and the choice is excellent but best go early in the busy season to have a bigger choice. Although Luz has many good restaurants, we tend to eat out further afield. A half hour drive to the west coast is rewarded by spectacular scenery, long sandy beaches and lovely local food, with a view. Drive to the town of Carapateira, walk on the beach at Amado, eat at Sitio do Forno on the clifftop and then take the breathtaking drive along the rough track across the headland to the beach at Bordeira on the other side. It's an experience that's hard to beat.

The pool is a good size but heating is advisable unless you like it chilly.

We will be coming back to Casa Bonita. The owner is very responsive and odd glitches are quickly resolved. In short, there's much to love and little to dislike.

Casa Bonita, a home from home

  • 5 of 5

We spent the last week of March at Casa Bonita. The brief on the villa certainly did not disappoint: stunning views; superb outdoor space with a great (heated) pool for the kids and adults to enjoy; the internal space offering a great homely family environment (kids through to the elderly visitors). Moreover, both the internal and outdoor cooking areas were not only functional but afforded all the opportunity to participate in cooking some great local fish and meat or simply relax together sipping a lovely chilled glass of vino. The cliff tops walk / jogging paths to either Luz or Burgau are breath taking and offer a great opportunity to burn off some of those calories or simply finish the day off with a nice cocktail.

Some lovely restaurants and bars in Luz - our favourites places: Lazuli Luz - warm and friendly atmosphere whether it was for a hearty breakfast or cocktail hour. Fortaleza – excellent food and atmosphere (live band). Fabulous outside dining area overlooking the ocean which was not open when we visited but could only further enhance any dining experience.

Jennifer thanks a million. Our holiday was truly fab and a giggle every minute. We have fantastic holiday memories and everything about your villa, as well as its location etc. have certainly contributed. We'll definitely visit again but minimum 2 weeks next time.

A definite recommendation, loved it!

A Girls Getaway In Paradise

  • 5 of 5

After doing a lot of research on properties in the Algarve, we decided to book this villa. At the beginning of our trip, there were a few misunderstandings; however, these misunderstandings were quickly resolved. The owner quickly responded to our calls and concerns and addressed them so we could enjoy our vacation. The villa was absolutely beautiful ... every single inch of the property was beautiful. The villa was definitely large enough to fit all 5 of us. We could definitely have had more people. Every morning when we woke up, we would have lunch out of the patio and enjoy the spectacular views. At night time, we would take a dip in the heated pool. What luxury! My favorite thing about the villa (oddly enough) is the automatic shades. Can I please have some of those installed at home? Lol. It allows a peaceful night sleep without the Algarve sun waking you up early in the morning.

We stayed in the villa for an entire week and used it as our base point to explore all of the Algarve coast. We walked to town almost every day to grocery shop, explore restaurants, or enjoy a night on the town. The villa is in the perfect location. It is close enough to the town to walk and explore but far enough away to have some peace in quiet and some much needed R&R. As 5 women, we never felt unsafe in the villa. The location is absolutely beautiful and very safe for families or women traveling alone.

We all enjoyed our stay at Casa Bonita and would recommend to anyone who is planning to vacation to Portugal. What a beautiful villa and an accommodating and helpful owner.

Well appointed villa with fantastic view

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house with a stunning view. The villa is someone's home and appointed as such. Well stocked kitchen made cooking family meals a pleasure. Our family enjoyed the pool and ample outdoor seating. We'd certainly book it again. This house is perfect if you want to get away from it all and sip sundowners with a panoramic ocean view. If you're looking to be in the middle of a walkable town it's not the right property. The complex, Porto Dona Maria, is nothing special and unfinished (eg this is not a functioning golf resort). So what you're booking here is a great house with a pool (that can be heated) and a grand view. We liked walking along the cliffs and for us the location was great as it was near several cool towns and beaches. Car is highly recommended. The local management is responsive and friendly. We're planning our return as this house fit our needs well!

Superb Villa

  • 5 of 5

It is great when something lives up to expectations and Casa Bonita certainly did. A very modern and spacious villa with lots of seating areas inside and outside. The pool was excellent for swimming at 10mx4m and the views were amazing (even though we were unfortunate to have a crane nearby working on a new villa - but this should be gone by the time anyone else books this place). It is a good 20-25min walk into Luz, but it is a very nice scenic walk and the whole area is very clean. I would highly recommend this villa.

Amazing villa !

  • 5 of 5

We just completed a two-week stay in Mairead's villa in Montinhos de Luz, and couldn't help but wonder daily at how wonderful it is! The house is large and very spacious, and so is each bedroom and corresponding bathroom. The terrace and its pool command an undisputed view of the ocean, and were regularly drenched in sunlight. There are two outside dinner tables to stay well in the shade for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and on the odd day when the wind was blowing a bit at night, a third indoor dining room table so that comfort was always at an optimal level. Unlike most holiday homes, this one is decorated and furnished like a house one would want to live in, which makes it that much more pleasant. We found that Montinhos da Luz was also superbly situated to visit all the surfing beaches in the region within a half hour drive, so great for dynamic teen age kids. We also went on a long horse ride in the country side at a finca 5 minutes away, and played golf at two of the golf courses another stone's throw away. Basically, we had city-level comforts on the edge of the ocean. Truly impressive. We'll definitely be back. Thank you Mairead!

BOAVISTA, an impressive 18 hole championship golf course with spectacular scenery & delightful views of Lagos Bay & the Monchique Mountains is only 4km away.

THINGS TO DO AND SEE:

1) PONTA DA PIEDADE (LAGOS)

With a magnificent view of the Atlantic and the shapes of cliffs carved by the sea and time, Ponte da Piedade is an idyllic setting of cut out rocks that sharply contrast with the greenish blue waters below. Located 2 km from Lagos on the Costa d’Oiro and full of grottos, unknown bays and quiet beaches, the Ponte da Piedade is particularly captivating when viewed from the sea.

Long, narrow stairs lead you down to a small cove where pretty boats wait for visitors wishing to explore this natural paradise. Experienced fishermen wind their way expertly through the gigantic stone sculptures whilst revealing their names and secrets.

Those daring to climb up 182 steps to the top of the lighthouse will have a view of the Ponte da Piedade promontory, which marks the limit between land and sea.

2) CABO DE SAN VINCENTE (Cape St Vincent, SAGRES)

6km from Sagres is the most south-westerly point in Europe and offers amazing views and walks. The lighthouse and cliffs at Cape St Vincent are a fantastic trip from the villa, and a great place for a picnic lunch. There is plenty of parking and visitors can walk the cliff paths and climb the lighthouse tower when open. The lighthouse was built on top of a 16th century convent.

3) ZOOMARINE (GUIA)

Zoomarine is a fantastic marine park can watch shows with dolphins, seals and sea lions, tropical birds and birds of prey. You can also find an amazing aquarium with sharks, Cinema4D, attractions, amusements and swimming pools.

4) SLIDE N SPLASH WATERPARK (LAGOA)

A great day out to a nearby waterpark for the whole family with slides, lazy river, kids play pools, restaurants.

5) LAGOS ZOO is just a 15 minute drive from the villa.

We love this zoo for our grandchildren. It’s ideal for smaller children and buggies as it’s flat and includes a small farm, lots of beautiful tropical birds, primates, giant tortoises, meerkats etc. Everything is very accessible for the children to see and there’s a small café and shop onsite.

6) BEACHES

There’s a wealth of beautiful beaches near the villa, from the beaches at Luz and Burgau to the larger beaches at Meia Praia in Lagos and many, many others.

OTHER SPORTS & ACTIVITIES:

There’s a wealth of other attractions across this area of the Algarve including the fortress at Sagres, the historic town of Silves and its castle, river boat trips from Portimao inland, shopping at the Guia complex and the annual international festival of sand at Pera. Plenty to keep you busy if you can drag yourself from the poolside at Casa Bonita!!

Burgau Sports Centre offers a range of children’s sports including tennis, football, hockey, touch rugby, running races, swimming races, diving competitions, baseball & rounders. Luz has a watersports centre offering jet skis, banana boats & windsurfing & the marina at Lagos offers boat trips around the coast, as well as dolphin watching and glass bottom boat trips.

Pool heating is very much a personal preference but we find that this tends to be needed only off season. If these are required please contact us using the "Send a Message" button and not the "Request to Book". We can then send you a total quotation and you can book securely online.

Cots & highchairs are available to hire if required, please contact us for details.
