Rugged coastline, ancient towns, lakes and forests beckon both holidaymakers, beach lovers and hikers alike to come closer and enjoy wonderful expanses of diverse countryside.
From the inland lakes and forests located in the northern extremities of the Morbihan department to the sandy and craggy coves in the South with rocks that have been washed by the ocean over centuries look out towards the sea and offer some of the best views in Brittany. Little walkways take the adventurous to places from bygone years, through walkways that take you to little coves that have been there since time began and that keep their charm, created by nature rather than man.
Morbihan has much to offer those who seek a balance of relaxation and activity. Keen golfers have a range of options available within easy reach- the 9 hole, Golf du Rimaison course is only 16km from the cottages. 18 hole courses can be found at Kernic, Ploermel and Auray, all less than an hour away.
Excellent fishing can be found locally in the rivers Scorff, Blavet and Sarre. Those heading to the inland lakes can enjoy beaches and fishing too and a host of other attractions including, walking, swimming, cycling, kayaking, sailing and horse riding.
The closest town to Fourdan is Guemene-Sur-Scorff where you can get provisions, take in the local sights/attractions and introduce yourself to French cuisine.
The beaches of the south coast welcome the visitor who likes sandy beaches, which are safe, and at Auray, the port of St. Goustan offers you a small medieval fishing town with little street cafes that overlook the water. On a larger scale Vannes is also a port and here the winding streets take you back in time, whilst on an upbeat note, the shops are up to date and all the trappings of a large town within easy reach.
For those wishing to recuperate from illness, the thalassotherapie centres of Quiberon offer patients relaxation in natural healing waters, which are renowned worldwide and have been proven to be beneficial.
Morbihan offers a wealth of architectural marvels, and has wonderful churches; abbeys and you can step back in time and visit the Chateau at Josselin, or the old towns of Vannes, Rocheforte-en-Terre, La Gacilly, Quimper, Pontivy and many more. The historically inclined tourist will find themselves pulled back into the days of the megaliths, huge standing stones that tower above the earth along the coastline at Carnac, geologists can seek out the lay lines of this magical place.
Food is wonderful, and a three course meal can be had for as little as 10 euros a head, although for families, there are a host of self service restaurants that offer children’s menus at very reasonable prices.
All in all Morbihan has something for everyone, not just in the main summer period but throughout the year. From Easter to the end of October you can enjoy the beautiful countryside in pleasant weather.
Another fantastic holiday in Bay! Our children said it was the 'best holiday ever'! We had a great one here last Summer but the weather was great this time, meaning lots of time in the pool! Geoff and Chris always make you feel very welcome and at home.
There is so much to keep children entertained that there is plenty of time for grown ups to relax! We visited the beach near L'orient, went canoeing in Pontivy and had a wander in Guemene. it was hard to convince the children to leave the pool!
The Gite is fully equipped with everything you would need as well as lots of indoor games/DVDs should you get a rainy day! We highly recommend these holiday properties!
The first thing we noticed as we entered the grounds of the cottages was the bird song. Set in the middle of the French countryside the gardens are extensive with everything we or the children could want for our week long stay. The cottage has been beautifully restored, was immaculate and contained all the home comforts we needed. It was the little details that Chris and Geoff had thought of that impressed us the most - games for the children (for both inside and outside), a pint of milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine to tide us over till we got to the shops. While in such a tranquil setting the cottages are central many activities and days out for both adults and children - the nearest town is just 6 kms away (down very quiet roads) and contains a large supermarket as well as local shops - the queue for the bread at the local patisserie well worth the wait! Attractions such as Pontivy, Poul Fetan (as restored Breton village) and Huelgot are all within easy reach through very pretty villages and towns. And of course there is the pool to return to each day for a cooling dip before supper! We had a fantastic holiday here (the children gave it 100 out of 10!), would love to return and would happily recommend it to others who would like somewhere to rest while exploring the real France.
We booked all three cottages for our family to celebrate with us our 40th Wedding Anniversary on 29th May 2011.
Ruth and I had Bay, our daughter, husband, and three girls had Cedar, and our son and his wife and two children, Solomon and Phoebe, were in Yew.
The cottages were recommended to us by some mutual friends of ours and Chris and Geoff and it proved to be a superb experience.
From the time that we arrived the welcome was really friendly and,, although this was the first time that we had met Chris and Geoff it immediately felt as though we had known them forever.
Nothing was too much trouble and the local information provided was extremely valuable.
The pool was great for the children and the other facilities meant that the children were able to play safely.
Bicycles were provided for the children and adults which meant we could explore the local area on two wheels at a leisurely pace.
On the day of our Anniversary, Geoff and Chris, joined us all for our celebration and presented us with a card, flowers, and Kir. We had a really special day together.
It proved to be a superb choice and I would recommend their property to anyone and we intend to return on our own in the future.
Geoff and Chris (or Aunty Chris as our son named her after our first day) were so welcoming and helpful and had thought of everything we might need during our stay. Upon our arrival at Bay Cottage late at night, we found enough milk and pains aux chocolats for breakfast as well as a bottle of wine and local cider already provided.
As a family holiday, Les Verts Paturages couldn't have been more relaxing or child-friendly. Beforehand, I had wondered if there might not be enough to do but in fact there was so much to keep the children entertained; from the gated pool, fabulous swing (made from an old aeroplane wheel), sandpit, climbing frame, swingball, play kitchen and accessories, treehouse, trampoline and bikes, to Jackson, the friendliest dog imaginable (he even joined us for a sunset family bike ride along the secluded lane). It was so refreshing that the children could play outside in a safe and secure environment, as they're not fortunate enough to do so at home and that they were more interested in feeding the fairies than switching on the TV. The children even enjoyed looking after the pet goldfish so much that they have now asked for a fish as their birthday present!
The cottage is set within stunning French countryside and there are some beautiful medieval towns within easy reach. We had only booked for a week but wish we had stayed for two, despite the weather being a little on the cool side at times. I would highly recommend staying at Les Verts Paturages and although ordinarily I never like to return to the same place, I would definitely consider making this the exception. It was a complete antidote to our normal hectic lives and was life as it really should be. As we began our journey home, our 5 year old declared he wanted to stay and live at Bay Cottage. It would be hard to disagree.
A great place for kids to play and parents to relax. Fantastic facilities for kids, pool, trampoline, sandpit, tree house, hammock, large garden to run around, quiet lanes to cycle. The cottage was comfy, clean and really well equipped with everything you could need even a few films and toys for inside play. The owners couldn't be more helpful and were really warm and friendly. We liked it so much we've just booked again!
Les Verts Paturages is located in 1.5 acres of secluded, wood lined, child safe, gardens at the end of a half mile no through lane. Although secluded and tranquil we are only 6 km from the medieval town of Gueméné-sur-Scorff where you will find a large supermarket, banks, bars, boulangeries, chemists, gift and clothes shops and restaurants.......... We are ideally located to explore the beautiful countryside, sandy beaches and historic towns of Brittany.
There are picturesque walks and cycle tracks through ancient woodland and along the Rivers Blavet, Sarre, and Scorff which are ideal for fishing.
Kayaks, pedalos and electric boats can be hired on the Blavet.
Water sports are available nearby on Lac de Guerledan which is the largest lake in Brittany and some 12 km long.
Quad bikes and an adventure forest are within 5 minutes of Les Verts Paturages.
Or just relax around the pool and enjoy the peace and quiet of the large gardens with a glass or two of your favourite wine.
