Skiing: The Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine is at only 6kms away, at Villard Reculas where there is a chairlift link into the heart of the resort. This is France's 4th most important resort with over 250kms of well groomed slopes, 923 snow cannons and 75km of slopes with artificial snow.
The famous Tunnel run is the a black slope coming down from Pic Blanc ( 3330m) from where you can carry on down as far as l' Enversin d'Oz descending a total of 2200m.
The 2 Alpes link is at only 1/2 hour away, for more snow parks and high glacier skiing.
La Grave is at 3/4 hour away, and is world famous for back country skiing and a totally magic atmosphere.
Serre Chevalier is only 1 hour away too.
Cycling: This is the mecca for road cyclists! The Tour de France regularly visits Alpe d'Huez, from here it's easy to get to see it on one of the famous 21 bends.
We're in the heart of the mountain passes : Galibier, Lauteret, Col de Glandon, Col de la Croix de Fer, Madeleine and many others. Road cyclists have a huge choice, better get fit before coming out here!
For mountain bikers we're in the Alpe d'Huez area, with lifts and free shuttles working in the summer. There are a large number of trails especially at Oz where there are regular international and national races. You can bike from and back to the chalet using the lift system.
For the DH specialists, the Megavalanche trail comes through the hamlet.
Hikers find plenty to do, the Belledonne and Oisans mountains are still quite wild with not too many other hikers. The mountains are fabulous all year round, always something to see from wild flowers to wild animals! You can hike from the chalet or go further afield, the routes are limitless.
This was our 5th visit - and everyone has been absolutely great. We'll be back again in 2017.
I found this wonderful hotel by coincidence, but is already returning for the THIRD time in just one year in June 2015. The 'Chalet Le Sardonnier' consists of two large apartments, and I've tried to stay at both of them. They are both really nice, and perfect for large groups. The first time we went to the 'Chalet' we were a group of 7 people (all biking the l'Alpe d'Huez and Col du Glandon, close by), and we all just loved the cosines of the entire house - and the food is just mind-blowing (especially after a full day on the bike). Next year we'll be 19 people, and have therefore reserved the whole 'Chalet' for ourselves. And even though we still have to wait 6 months, we are already looking forward to the stay.
I can recommend this Hotel to every one - especially those who are willing to try something special and out of the ordinary. After having stayed in different hotels down in Bourg d'Oisans for the last 8 years, I can honestly tell you, this is the best of them all!
If you are looking for a great place to stay in this region then I can highly recommend Chalet Le Sardonnier. The welcome was very warm from the owner.
This time we had rented the apartment for our party of 9 who were all taking part in a charity cycling event.
The apartment has its own kitchen which is always handy even if you are staying half board. We stayed based on half board and the breakfast and particularly the home cooked dinners were superb!
The accommodation is clean and spacious.
It is so refreshing to stay in a place where the people running it actually care about whether you are having a good time and give you plenty of advise about the region whether it be cycling, walking or skiing.
I will definitely be staying here again in the future!
Close to Alpe d'Huez, on the Tour de France route and only 6kms away from the slopes at Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine. This is a great area to discover both winter and summer; for skiers and snow boarders and cyclists, mountain bikers and hikers. Sardonne is on the Megavalanche DH trail, and on the mountain bike trails of the Alpe d'Huez area.
The chalet offers comfortable accommodation in 4 bedrooms,a kitchen for self caterers and delicious home cooked meals for those who choose half board. This year we've added a sauna to the chalet, so come and find some heat after a day out on the snow!
Other Activities: rock climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing
Ski: The Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine is at only 6kms from the chalet, at Villard Reculas where a chairlift takes you into the heart of the ski area. This is France's 4th biggest resort, with over 250kms of pistes, more than 8000m of vertical drop in 4 downhill runs, 923 snow canons and 75 slopes with artificial snow. Or you can ski at Villard Reculas which is a small village resort perfect for children and families with the cheapest ski pass ever. Or ski the Oz/ Vaujany ski area where the ski pass is reasonable, and lots of skiing available.
It's possible to ski back to the chalet if there is good snow coverage, but you need to be with a mountain guide.
The 2 Alpes is only half an hour away, with more snow parks and high glacier skiing.
La Grave is less than an hour away and perfect for those who want a more mountainous atmosphere, it's all back country and only one gondola, world famous and a real experience!
Serre Chevalier is an hour away, over the Lauteret pass, another great ski area.
