A beautifully restored traditional village house in its own grounds set in an elevated position in the unspoilt living village of Milatos.
Ideally suited for those discerning holidaymakers who want tranquillity but accessibility to beaches, tavernas, mountains, attractive market towns and holiday resorts.
The house is intimate enough for just a couple yet large enough for a family of 6 persons. We also have space for 1 extra child.
The accommodation comprises of one air-conditioned master-bedroom with adjoining bathroom, two further air-conditioned bedrooms on the mezzanine floor (1 double & 2 single beds). Additional family bathroom, study, open plan living/dining area with wood burning stove and a well equipped kitchen with modern facilities.
Many attractive design features brings this old family house to life.
The roof terrace has a generous shaded dining table and sun terrace sheltered by bougainvillea all enjoying panoramic views of the sea. Below is a private courtyard with wood oven and garden.
Your Holiday: Milatos is such an excellent base to explore this amazing island. There are beautiful coastal and mountain drives, many internationally acclaimed archaeological sites, traditional villages, market towns, museums, sandy beaches with crystal clear safe waters, rocky coves and a variety of sports and water sports. A holiday is not long enough, so pace yourself and just enjoy whatever you fancy. If you travel around come back at the end of the day to relax on your private sea view terrace. Wander down to a restaurant in the village or the selection of restaurants on the seafront.
This is not a village for wild night-life, music or bars but a tranquil place to slow down, re-energise yourself and return home refreshed.

We lived and worked in Milatos for many years running a design and project management company specialising in old traditional properties. We also started a premier Property Management business, Bluebay, managing over 30 luxury villas and traditional Houses.
Paul purchased this cottage in 2001
We bought the house as a ruin in 2001 and renovated it to a high standard for us to live in. Our lovely home in peaceful Milatos gave us tranquillity away from our busy business life. In 2010 we returned to the UK and continue to run Bluebay Holiday Rentals using Bluebay Cottage as our holiday home.
Benefits from a really charming terrace with a breathtaking view over Milatos out to sea. The property has a lot of character and is very well equipped. We got a nice welcome from Edith the handling agent and appreciated her assistance. There was a gas leak during our stay but this was handled promptly and efficiently. A few niggles: the washing machine is Greek (perhaps unsurprisingly!) but a clear English guide to the basic settings would have helped. Ditto for the TV. There was a manual (in English) but I didn't want to spend my holiday reading this kind of stuff. We couldn't get a signal at all and the control was taped up in such a way that we couldn't follow the on-screen instructions (in French) to re-set. Some kind of cushion needs to be fixed to the lintel of the door leading from the downstairs hall into the kitchen/sitting room! I am tall and hit my head at least three times during our stay. But this is minor stuff. Beds were comfy, the weather fabulous, local restos pretty good. A great holiday.
Bluebay Cottage is a spacious traditional Greek cottage that has been beautifully and sympathetically restored. We had our relaxing morning coffees in the secluded lower courtyard underneath the bougainvillea and all other meals outside on the pretty terrace which has views over the tranquil village and the olive groves to the sea and also up to the mountains. The cottage is clean and well equipped and we spent a very happy, relaxing week here using it as a base to explore this part of a fascinating island.
The property owner, Paul, responds quickly and courteously to all emails and the property manager,Edith, met us promptly and made us feel very welcome. Thank you!
We had a fantastic stay at Bluebay Cottage. The cottage is actually larger and prettier than it appears in the photos. It is extremely well equipped - as good as home away from home, and has been brilliantly renovated, retaining the building's character. The location is great - lovely views of the sea and surrounding hills from the terrace as it's high up at the top of the village, and walkable distance (20 minutes) to the bay and plenty of tavernas.
You can also walk to Sisi - the next village over with a picturesque harbour and even more bars and restaurants - by following a wide track along the coastline (go left at Milatos Beach, go past the harbour and then when you reach a large hotel, go past the bar area of the hotel and down to the small beach. Cross the beach and take the track up the hill the other side, over some boulders. The track then leads to Sisi, with some lovely views. The walk takes about an hour and a half).
There are also plenty of places to see a short drive away. We loved Elounda and Spinalonga Island a half hour boat trip away from Elounda (boats are easy to find, run every half hour and were 8 euros pp). The ancient ruins of Malia Palace were worth an amble round, and Agios Nikolaos was a pretty town on the coast with a lake surrounded by tavernas and cafes. All were within an hour's drive from Bluebay. We felt we needed longer than a week to properly explore.
Milatos itself was ideal - quiet as it's a good 15 minute drive away from the main highway, and small enough to retain the traditional Cretan village feel. We ate a great meal at both of the tavernas in the village, as well as equally good meals at tavernas on the sea front.
We were met by Edith who was very welcoming and friendly, despite it being the early hours of the morning after a late and delayed flight. Our deposit was returned swiftly, so the overall service was faultless.
I'd definitely recommend the cottage to anyone who enjoys peace and quiet and wants to properly see Crete. Those who want noisy nightlife, bars and clubs - go to Malia instead!
Thanks Paul and Edith for a fabulous stay!
The house was just as described - at the top of the village of Milatos overlooking the wide expanse of the bay. A stunning view from a stunning viewpoint! The house is very well equipped and immaculately clean with extensive cooking facilities, two bathrooms (making the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms both ensuite if required). There is a BBQ area and stone oven that we used to great effect. The upstairs veranda is big and eating out there was a pleasure. If you're looking for a quiet place to stay within easy (car) reach of great beeches and buzzing nightlife, great Tavernas and beautiful landscapes this is the spot for you! The harbour at Milatos is lovely and a working harbour with boats leaving every night to catch the fresh fish served up for lunch and dinner. Our own personal favourite Taverna was Socrates but they are all good offering different original food catering for the taste of all ages. Neapolis over the hill, is a great place to shop and a visit to the church a must - so very beautiful. Spillia is well worth a visit if you can cope with winding roads! The harbour is beautiful and a trip to the banana beach at Vai would be very busy but very unique. The views from the road journey are stunning! In conclusion - we will be going back soon as there is so much we wanted to do but two weeks just wasn't long enough! We recommend Bluebay Cottage as a great base for exploring the beautiful Easter side of Crete and the friendly locals will make any ones stay a treat.
The property is located in a small tradional Greek village with sea views and is very well equipped. There were a couple of local taverns about 100m away and they were very good value. They are more tavernas down at the beach, approx a 15/20 min walk. There appears to be a local bus service but unless you intend to "stay put", I would rcommend you hire a car or other form of transport to get around as Paul says - the smaller the better as parking is limited close to the cottage. We were very pleased with the accommodation, standard of finish and cleanliness of the cottage. The village was very quiet, which was just what we were after. Only slight niggles were (1) the moble phoe coverage was very poor to non existent at the cottage and (2) there was no WiFi in the cottage so I had to go down to one of the local tavernas/cafes for access. On balance I think it helped me to reduce my internet dependency - no bad thing!
This is a great property in a wonderful idyllic location. The house is clean and very well equipped and as advertised. The terrace provides the most magnificent view to the Mediterranean and surrounding mountains. While the beach is within walking distance it is a hard 20 minutes or more walk back up the hill. A hire care is recommended and its 5 minutes to the beach. Given Milatos itself is a small very traditional Greek village you will need a car to get to a cash machine, post office and pharmacy in nearby Sisi (only 15 minutes by car). The location of Blue Bay in Milatos is wonderful if you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Lots of great little restaurants along the waters edge but dont miss the little restaurants in the village. There are two only a few minutes walk down the hill from Blue Bay Cottage. We enjoyed 8 days of wonderful relaxation in this lovely little villa. The manager was helpful and always available. I would highly recommend this rental. While Milatos is a quiet little village nightlife is accessible only 15 minutes away in Sisi or a little further to Malia. An wonderful drive up the and through the mountains to other towns such as Napolini is a must though the alternative via the national road is faster (you miss out on the magnificent scenery you get going through the mountain roads). Nothing beats spending your time on the beautiful terrace at Blue Bay cottage. Only draw back was no access to Wi Fi but it is available at Socrates restaurant at the beach.
Located in the centre of the traditional village of Milatos, North East Crete. The house enjoys panoramic views over the village, valley, mountains and sea. Just 1 km away you can enjoy the waterfront tavernas of Milatos serving good Greek food and locally caught fish. The beaches provide safe swimming and quiet relaxation.
Milatos is far enough away from the busy holiday resorts yet close enough to take advantage of their facilities for shopping and dining. The renowned resorts of Elounda, Hersonisos and Agios Nikolaos are just a short drive away.
Golf: The beautiful 18 hole golf course of Hersonnisos is just 25 minutes drive away set in the mountains overlooking the north coast. Some of the local 5 star hotels also have 9 hole courses.
