About the property

Catered or Self catered; 4 large bedrooms, great views, log fire, wet room

'La Dryade' is a beautiful chalet sitting in its own gardens, above the centre of the village of Samoens in a very peaceful and calm, but easily accessible location. The chalet offers 200 sq.m. of fully furnished accommodation over two floors, including a mezzanine living/dining area; kitchen; wet room; utility room; bathroom; two double bedrooms and two large dormitories which in total provides comfortable and flexible sleeping for up to 10 people. The chalet has numerous balconies and has uninterrupted views of the mountains. It is less than five minutes walk to the centre of the village and five minutes by bus/car to the express Samoens gondola providing access to the Garnd Massif (265km of piste). The friendly village of Samoens is part of the stunning Savoyard region of the French Alps and it is an ideal place for all ages. It is well equipped for both summer and winter leisure activities, and in addition there are numerous restaurants and bars catering for every taste.

Winter pursuits: The ski season is from December to April. The skiing is suitable for all levels from the 5km (green) Marvel to the Cascades a 14km run around Sixt Fer a Cheval nature reserve. The resort is linked to the Grand Massif with some 265km of downhill skiing, suitable for all levels. (including: Les Carroz; Sixt fer a Cheval; Morillon and Flaine) and provides extensive skiing for all levels with virtually no queues. Not many places offer such a wide variety of skiing, and very few have such fantastic panoramic views over Mont-Blanc. There is an excellent nursery slope area at Samoëns 1600, in fact now the biggest beginners’ area in the Haute Savoie. For the more advanced there is also a testing terrain: The steep north-facing mogul slopes from the Tête des Saix, the central point of the entire Grand Massif system, down to Samoëns are particularly enjoyable. Intermediate and more advanced skiers and boarders will enjoy the 49 red pistes; 12 black pistes and snowparks of the Grand Massif.

Non winter pursuits: As the snow melts away in the valley leaving just the magnificent snow capped peaks, Samoëns bursts into life with a vast array of outdoor activities including: endless walking for all levels, paragliding, 600 km of Mountain Biking, white water rafting, Canyoning, Canoe-rafting, Hydro speed, Rock climbing, Via Ferrata, Indiana Park - an adventure assault course through the trees, potholing, and guided heritage tours. Samoëns is also perfectly placed to visit some of the wonderful surrounding areas and historic towns such as Evian, Thonon les Bains, Chamonix and Mont Blanc, Annecy and Geneva. There are also numerous golf courses set in stunning alpine scenery within an hour’s drive of the chalet.

Children: The area is fantastic for children. There is a great outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a skate ramp, different children's play areas with slides, swings, roundabouts, climbing ropes, etc.,

Children can be introduced to skiing from the age of 3 in a specially adapted children's ski area, the Jardin des Neiges. This is an enclosed, landscaped area created especially for children, allowing them to learn to ski with maximum enjoyment in total safety.

After skiing activities include an ice skating rink in the village centre.

To lock the front door (and other doors with a lock), the handle needs to be lifted up, which engages door levers for security. The doors can then be locked when the levers are engaged. The entrance hall has a storage area for boots and coats. Off this there is a shower room, separate WC and utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer with access to the car port (skis/snowboards can be safely left in the car port area). The open plan mezzanine dining/living area with wood burning fire enjoys uninterrupted views of Le Criou mountain. It accesses the veranda (as does the kitchen) where the sound of the running stream in front of the house can be heard. The wood burning fire can be used, but as it competes for air, there is an opening to the left which should be screwed open a little to allow air in. An open plan landing (with books/games) provides a childrens' play area or adults' escape area with sofa bed, it looks out on to the living area and entrance lobby.

A gen of a propert

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely holiday based at this house. We were a large party involving four couples and a toddler and the house had everything we needed. For those not skiing it was a short walk into the pretty town of Samoens and for the skiers a five minute car journey to the main lift with plenty of parking. I would strongly recommend this property but not when we want to go back!

A really lovely funky comfy chalet in a great family resort. We stayed here as a family of 9 there was plenty of space for kids to run around and adults to relax. This is not a typical Alpine chalet but a quirky well designed 70's home. It has everything you could need to make your stay a memorable one and Samoens had all the facilities needed for a great Ski holiday.

La Dryade - Summer 2011

  • 5 of 5

Our family (2 adults, 2 teenagers and a twenty+) spent two summer weeks in this lovely quirky house in a quiet hamlet a short walk up the mountain from the beautiful alpine resort of Samoen.

A wonderful area with beautiful walks, scenery and loads of activities including lakes, open air swimming complex and many other sports available locally. Large, well stocked, supermarket at edge of resort was a short drive away.

The house was very spacious and comfortable - a complete home from home and far better equipped than we were expecting. Very family friendly though may not suit families with toddlers. Owners were friendly and helpful via internet & phone. Would highly recommend both house and area and hope to return one day!

Chalet La Dryade February Half-term 2011

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd visit to La Dryade and our 7th visit to the Samoens. The Chalet is situated in a beautiful, quiet location but only a 10 minute walk (maximum) from the centre of Samoens. We have stayed at other Chalets which claim to be a " 15 minute walk to the centre" only to discover the truth to be a 40 minute hike on a good day.. The chalet is incredibly spacious and sleeps 10 comfortably. We were 2 families and never felt lacking in space - quit the opposite. Everything described in the details was entirely accurate - the wet room was a big hit and the large dining table comfortably seated 10 of us. The sitting -room is perfect to relax in after a day of skiing/snowboarding with a flat screen TV & a plentiful supply of DVD's was welcomed and the kitchen was kitted out with all one could expect & more. Beds were all very comfortable, large rooms & heating excellent plus a plentiful supply of logs for the open fire. Wi-fi worked pefectly. Samoens is a very popular resort with excellent access to the Grand Massif ski area and a plethora of excellent restaurants & supermarkets & therefore demands a high premium - La Dryade is excellent value for money with owners who go the extra mile to ensure a great, trouble-free holiday..am about to re-book for next year along with another family! Nothing was too much trouble & this is a real gem if you are lucky enough to discover for yourself. We recommend Planet Glisse for ski -hire & La Louisiane for great pizzas & atmosphere but all of the restaurants are excellent with friendly service and non of that "I've just been ripped off" feeling. I would not hesitate to recommend La Dryade but don't want too many people to discover this gem in case I can't re-book! Other Chalets we have stayed in have been 4 x the price and miles away from the village - so, it's a no-brainer - La Dryade wins every time.

Un chalet à conseiller!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5
