Fantastic villa with big pool

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our stay at Villa Di Stella and would really recommend it. As a family of four with two boys aged 9 and 6, the size of the villa and the pool were a real bonus and kept us entertained for the week. As soon as we arrived I thought the picture on the website didn't really do the villa justice - it is a lot bigger than I expected and the bedrooms and living areas are really well arranged to make the stay a comfortable one. There are great cooking facilities at the villa with a fully equipped kitchen and two tavernas a short walk away in the village. The better of the two is Giannikos taverna on the village square with a traditional menu and good fish and the owner was really welcoming and made the evening for us - h gets a 5 star rating on Trip Adviser.

Prines itself is a sleepy little village with some really nice little alleyways and a couple of mini markets but you're only a short (8 mins maybe) drive from Lidl at the bottom of the hill (and a small Jumbo) in Rethymnon which has everything you need for self catering and avoids driving further into the town which we tried once and never again!. There's also a bus into Rethymnon which we took as we tried driving into the town earlier in the day but that was probably not worth the risk in the evening. The taxi ride back was 12 Euros. The villa is on a hill with a number of balconies and terraces so you can get/get away from the sun throughout the day and enjoy dinner on the top terrace overlooking the sea as the sun sets.

At the bottom of the hill is the main northern road that runs from Iraklion to Chania which means beaches are easy to get to.

The owner was was very friendly and owned the minimarket in the village so you could always find them if you had any questions and it was nice to have the maid service half way through the week and a dessert dropped off too!

All in all a really great villa and I'd strongly recommend it.

Great family holiday place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the DiStella villa for 12 days in July 2012. We were 8 people – 4 adults and 4 children between 2 and 8 years old and the villa had all we needed for a comfortable stay. The pool was excellent; our kids did not want to go anywhere else. 8 sunbeds meant no fights for a place to relax. The garden was beautiful with lots of flowers and palm trees. The villa had many terraces and two eating areas outside meant we were always able to get some shade during the day. The house was cleaned twice a week and the garden kept in good shape by our host. Wi-fi in the house was very convenient, and air conditioning in the bedrooms great for mid-summer. There was lots of kitchen equipment and crockery and even a dishwasher, and good beds and towels.

The villa is a short walk from Prines village. Prines is a small and quiet nice rural village but with 2 shops and 2 friendly tavernas it was perfect for our needs. The shops were small but had most of what we needed, including fresh bread every morning. There are also supermarkets nearby. Rethymnon is a short drive away and provides lots of shops and restaurants and tourist activities. There are also many beaches within short driving distance.

The owners were very kind and helpful. They also own one of the village shops so they are always available there, and they did all they could to make our stay the best possible – and even brought us dinner one night. We had a great holiday and would very much recommend the villa to other visitors!

Great holidays

  • 5 of 5

We spent one week with friends at the villa at end of April: we were 8 persons, 4 childs and 4 adults.

What a nice villa, village and owner: we eat mostly all the night at the tavern.we order and take the food away or it was delivered at the villa.

The owner is very welcome: they offered us the first day evening food and a very good typical desert during the week.

The pool was a little cold for the season but we went swinmming.

The 2 taverns are very good and the supermarket lead by the owner is appreciable.

Do not hesitate to rent it.

The Villa is Located in a small traditional village just 6 km on the west side of Rethymnon.

The village has local shops such as tavernas, mini-market, petrol station, butcher shop. It is just three km from the sea and 5 km from the beach of Prtres and Episkopi.

In addition next to Prines are other villages with nice traditional food and fresh fish which you can visit ( Gonia, Petres, Argiroupoli)

Prines has nice areas to walk and a small traditional village next to it named Vederoi of which you can walk to it with a beautiful small gorge.

The village is close to all local attractions.
