Central Edinburgh has so many historical and fascinating places to explore and it can all be done by foot from our property. Infact we advise leaving the car at home! New Town Edinburgh is a fabulous base whether visiting for the Edinburgh Festival or any other of the many other events held during the year. Open top bus rides, escorted walks, shopping and so much more can start from our doorstep. Head to nearby Leith to step on board the Royal Yacht Britannia or walk up The Mound into the Old Town along the Royal Mile leading to Edinburgh Castle - in time for the One O’clock gun. Guests are also very close to the many theatres, concert halls (including the Theatre Royal and The Usher Hall) and cinemas Edinburgh has to offer. For those seeking peace and tranquility there are nearby magnificent museums and galleries (including the Scottish and National Portrait Galleries) and the famous Botanic Gardens. Stockbridge with its antique shops, second-hand bookstores, vibrant cafe, bar and bistro atmosphere is a short walk away and it is here you can take a walk along the Water of Leith. We can provide our guests with lots of information on exploring Edinburgh City Centre and beyond and of course the many places to eat whether for lunch or an evening out. For comfort and location, Edinburgh self catering accommodation for couples does not get any better than this.

About Lynn Lambert

Edinburgh is not only my home town but also where we were married many years ago and we still have many friends and family members living in and around the city. We have two married grown up daughters who are now based in London but they try to visit Edinburgh when they can. Although we live in Norfolk, England we have excellent housekeepers (actually an aunt and uncle) who enjoy looking after our apartment and our guests. We are experienced property renters and owners and our homes are well cared for and maintained to an extremely high standard. So whether you are family, friends or new or returning guests everyone is assured of a warm welcome.

Lynn Lambert purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Lynn Lambert chose Edinburgh

We came across our apartment some years ago during one of our many visits to Edinburgh. It was for sale in a 'needs modernisation and updating' state and just around the corner from where we had our very first apartment when we were married in 1979. Being able to retrace our footsteps around Edinburgh - a great city that we love - is very special. We set about upgrading it but keeping all the wonderful Georgian details. Sadly, due to other commitments, we don't use it as much as we used to and therefore are very happy to now share it with our guests, family and friends. Its location and facilities are second to none enabling everyone who visits to relax in a gorgeous, huge apartment for the price of a small, bland hotel room.

What makes this apartment unique

Our apartment is so spacious - the entrance hall gives you the feeling of stepping into a grand Georgian country house. We love the period details, the high ceilings and looking out into Georgian Edinburgh from the front room and doorstep. We have been able to modernise and upgrade in a sensitive way. Its location, so close to all that Edinburgh City Centre has to offer, is also a huge plus and there are also so many great restaurants and pubs nearby to suit all budgets.

Large apartment near center of town/Wayfair train station

  • 5 of 5

As an American tourist traveling to Edinburgh via New Haven (US), I needed someplace easy to find first and foremost. I arrived via London on the ~5 hr train to Wayfair. Wayfair sits basically at the center of old town Edinburgh. the walk to the 11 India street is close to a mile. But it is an easy walk, and you go the hip center of town. As you go you will find places you will later eat, shop, drink, and sightsee. The walk is only about ten minutes. Use Google maps if you need directions.

The apartment is a one bedroom, and is very spacious. It is about 1300 square feet. It has two full bathrooms, a very large kitchen/dinning area, and flat screen TV viewing areas in three rooms. What makes the apartment even better is that you don't need a car. Everything from food, groceries, beer, pubs, restaurants (of most every culinary art) is located within a mile walk. And the walk can be done in any direction. It is all very, very scenic. All the major sightseeing attractions are within walking distance too. But again, there are many eateries/pubs to stop along the way.

The locals and the owners, Lynn and Stephen Lambert are very friendly. They will make sure you have everything you need. The apartment comes with good free Wi-Fi, and a stocked kitchen.

The day I left, I took a cab to the airport. This took about 20 minutes without traffic. It was about 18 pounds without tip. I would definitely come back to Edinburgh and stay at this property again!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind comments. You certainly spell out just how central we are and how very easy it is to reach us from Waverley Train Station (whether you walk or jump in a taxi). The choice of restaurants close by makes it difficult for guests to decide which ones to head for (given some are only in the city for a short period of time). As you say, the airport is very easy to reach either by taxi, bus or tram. Hope you get the chance to return to Edinburgh!

Fantastic stay in Edinburgh

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is exactly as pictured in photos- beautiful! Great location to shops, restaurants, Old Town but quiet and away from the crowds. Lynne was easy to work with and we enjoyed the treats left for us when we arrived. Also, coming from the US we had an overnight flight. It was wonderful to be able to check in early and take a quick nap before exploring our first day. Thank you for sharing your lovely home!

Perfect Stay for Adult Couple

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been to Edinburgh many times. We typically stay in new town, but this time we wanted to stay in Stockbridge. The location is a keeper. Quieter, very safe residential area ideally suited for walking to shops, restaurants and pubs.

The townhouse is exceptional. ALOT of careful thought and attention to detail has put into the Georgian flat renovation. We are staying in Edinburgh for two weeks, but only stayed in the flat for 3 nights. We then moved over to another flat in New Town. I can honestly say that I wish we were still at Lynn's flat. My husband and I were comfortable there and felt at ease and well taken care of by the host. Every need has been anticipated, welcome food/juice/milk is heaven sent after a long flight. We look forward to booking other stays in the future. Thank You for a lovely stay.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Although central to the city, we feel very lucky to have Stockbridge on our doorstep (and we enjoy introducing the area to our guests who don"t know of it). So pleased also that you enjoyed our welcome pack! We know what its like to get off a long flight and are very happy to provide such provisions. Hope you will drop by again and you'll be very welcome. Thank you and safe travels until then!

Wonderful backdrop to an unforgettable vacation in Edinburgh

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at 11 India Street. The apartment was a "wow" - beautiful interior, tastefully decorated, elegant and still very homey. The master bedroom ensuite was luxurious, comfortable, pampering - the bed and linens were so cozy, the shower fantastic - and that whole side of the home had sun streaming in every morning. The kitchen+ den were where we spent most of our time (honestly, we hardly set foot in the living room) and we were very comfortable with the space and all the things that were provided for us. But even better than all of that was the location, location, location. The street itself was elegant as was the close neighborhood. And we walked everywhere - to shop, to the Fringe festival venues, to restaurants, to meet up with our tours, even to the airport tram on the last day. We were very lucky with a week of fantastic weather, so we took advantage and walked as much as we could, and the location of the apartment lent itself to getting to know Edinburgh on foot. (And thanks to Lynn and Stephen for your recommendations, particularly for the Rabbies full-day tour.) To give some context to our review - one of us is a real critic of hotels and has frequently asked to move rooms or made complaints - we have not one complaint about 11 India St and would highly recommend it - and of course, we would love to return. Thank you to Lynn and Stephen for accommodating us so graciously.

Simply Pefect!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you walk in the door you know you've made the right decision. The apartment was beautiful, spacious, clean and well appointed. The owners Lynn & Stephen have gone out of their way to think of everything you could need to make your stay enjoyable and stress free. It was especially nice that they provided some basic staples such as eggs, bread and milk as well as a welcome scotch and wine after a long day of travel.

The location is wonderful. You're in the heart of everything that is New Town without being right in the middle of a more congested area. Many shops and restaurants are nearby and Lynn & Stephen provided a very thorough list of suggestions for dining and shopping.

We would not hesitate to recommend a stay in their perfect home and would stay there again on return to Edinburgh.

Owner's Response: Thank you both so much for your very kind words. We really do enjoy sharing the apartment and introducing our guests to all that Edinburgh offers its visitors. The nearby neighbourhood of Stockbridge is a gem that guests appreciate exploring yet our central location means you are so close to all the sights. Glad you enjoyed a whisky nightcap - exactly what the decanter is for! Do come back and visit us as you'll receive another warm welcome. Thanks again and all the best.

Top End in Central Updated Georgian

  • 5 of 5

We ended a three-month European travel with a luxuious week in this updated Georgian apartment right off Heriot and Queen Street Gardens. Lynn has ensured the apartment is very comfortable and functional. We had already spent two weeks in Ediburgh and knew this prime location would be perfect to zero in on our most wanted list. Walk down into Stockbridge or up into the City Centre. Easy access along the Water of Leith to the Royal Botanic Garden in one direction or the National Gallery of Modern Art in the other.
