The farm was purchased by my grandparents in 1948 and I have lived in the farmhouse here for most of my life. The farm was originally a dairy farm in my parents time, I was a teacher and along with my husband, farmed sheep here until very recently but we have now scaled things back. No lambing = more time to do a bit of hill walking and pursue our musical hobbies.
Jean purchased this Cottage in 1948
Why Jean chose Littleborough
When I travel around some of the beautiful scenic places in the UK, I often ask myself whether I would like to live there? Usually the answer is if I forget to buy bread, it's a long way to go back to the shops! It is very quiet here, we have fantastic views but it is so easy to drive down into Littleborough unless we have snow!
What makes this Cottage unique
We did most of the conversion ourselves so it was sort of labour of love. Most guests think we did a good job and like the cottage. It is very cosy and warm in the winter with the underfloor heating. I wish it was so warm in the farmhouse!

Tucked away in the hills near Littleborough, Number 1 Cottage was a complete delight. Jean and Norman have made it a perfect place for a restful stay. The directions to get there were great and the journey up from the road was all part of the adventure. The accommodation is beautifully equipped and finished - so cosy that we didn't need to light the logburner and there were little pots of fresh flowers ... just lovely. It was a treat to find some bread, butter, eggs and milk when we arrived too.
Truly, this is a little gem just nestling in the hills, waiting for you to discover it too.
Thank you for such a lovely review. I hope we can welcome you back in the future.
Thank you for your review, it was a pleasure to have you here as our guests.
Manchester is 30 minutes by train from Littleborough.
