Great place to relax
Owners were very hospitable and the property had everything we needed.
Lovely cottage with loads of provisions and homey touches. Very nice landlords. Beautiful spot.
Perfect for an active couple as there are stairs to the lovely bedroom. Lots of amenities and provisions and things you may get have forgotten to pack! Close to the waterfront and restaurants and shops. Lovely owners who are welcoming and helpful.
Perfect for a relaxing getaway!
Our stay at Anchors Away was beyond lovely. Everything is clean, comfortable, and charming and anything that you need to relax is provided. Sue and Joe are amazing hosts!
Great place to stay!
Beautiful house with an at home feeling! Sue and Joe did a wonderful job making sure things were perfect! We will be back!
I would definitely book it again and if you are travelling with your dog you should book it now.
I give this property the best rating I can give any property: I would definitely book it again. If you are planning a visit to Beaufort and are travelling with your dog(s) you should book it now before it gets away. Want to know more? Read on.
INCREDIBLE HOSTS. Sue and Joe Darden were more like friendly neighbors than hosts. They live behind the property and were there when we needed them. Kind of like a B&B except that they respected our space. Not only did they they welcome us with a gift of shrimp, but in the course of our visit let us sample their pecans and lemons as well. And of course we got to meet their dogs and they were happy to meet ours. One day our two dogs made a jail break and Sue helped us run them down and bring them back. It is a cliche to say that Sue and Joe would go the extra mile for us, but it is a fact that Sue went 40 yards for us carrying our beagle!
GREAT HOUSE. The house was built in the 19th century and combines old time charm with modern comforts. The kitchen and dining room provide a generous space for getting everybody together. There is a wide hall on the right side of the house that leads to the front room and is useful for staging stuff for the day's adventures. The house also has a library of travel guides and brochures for planning those adventures. And the Dardens provide their guests with a detail set of instructions to make their visit guess-free.
CONVENIENT LOCATION. The house is about two blocks from Front Street where all of the action is. (You can see Front Street from the front yard.) Front Street has plenty of shops, restaurants and a maritime museum It is also where you catch boats to the surrounding islands and the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. The house is also right across the street from the county courthouse where there is an open-air market on Saturdays.
DOG FRIENDLY. The house has a fully fenced-in back yard and while the photos on VRBO show artificial grass, there is enough of the natural stuff there for the infamous "their business". For local walks the courthouse grounds are right across the street but bring your doggy bags; it is a courthouse after all. Our dogs also enjoyed a walk on nearby Atlantic Beach and got their first boat rides to and from a local island named "Bird Shoal". And dogs are a common sight on Front Street.
Quaint Historic Cottage
Historic charm, walking distance to all of Beaufort's attractions and restaurants, pet friendly, and gracious hosts who provide everything you need for your stay at Anchors Away. Home is a little quirky, but that is to be expected with a historic home that was previously used as an attorney's office. As stated in prior reviews, the stairs are narrow and a little steep, but we had no trouble navigating them. This is a comfortable little cottage and Joe and Sue are fantastic hosts!
NC Aquarium, Maritime Museum, History Museum, Ferry Rides to Cape Lookout National Park &, Southern Outer Banks, Excellent Restaurants featuring local NC seafood.
