Why Tony Blakley chose Ashford

This stunning self-catering holiday cottage is a short drive from the historic City of Canterbury (around 25 mins) which boasts a wealth of visitor attractions. In 1170 Archbishop Thomas Beckett was famously murdered in the Cathedral and thousands of Pilgrims play homage each year. The ancient ruins of St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church all form part of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby are the remains of a Norman Castle built on 1080 by the Normans and the large stone keep was largely constructed in the reign of Henry1 (1100-1135) all are reminders of the City's history, heritage & culture. Other attractions include, The King's mile, St Dunstan's, West Gate Towers, Northgate and The Canterbury Tales. You can take one of the River Tours and absorb the City with a boat trip along the River Stour taking in the architecture and scenic views. There are museums, walking trails or guided walks to help you enjoy the narrow winding lanes. Canterbury is best explored by foot. Canterbury is a place steeped in tradition and is also a modern and vibrant city with welcoming bars, pubs, nightclubs, fine restaurants, and a High Street with independent and high street names. Canterbury Golf Course is 1 mile distance from the City Centre and was designed by Henry Colt ain 1927 at the same time as designing Wentworth. There are two famous “links” courses at nearby Sandwich, Royal St Georges (home to The Open Championship in 2011) and Princes (Open Golf qualifying course).

What makes this cottage unique

The evening can be spent watching the sunset from the lounge or if warm enough - from the sun loungers on the private patio. With panoramic views across the fields - almost as far as Ashford in the distance. And if you are lucky to spend the Autumn at Riverside you will be amazed at the fields full of Pumpkins or Rape seed oil plants.

Lovely accommodation with great views

  • 5 of 5

The property was tastefully furnished and decorated to a high standard. It had excellent kitchen facilities plus a high powered shower. A bonus was the adorable cat that visited. The views were lovely, however it was slightly disappointing not to have been left a basic food items such milk, bread or spread. Perhaps we've been spoils at other similar rentals.

Worcestershire is a pretty County.

Very clean airy & light, not too much furniture in. Lovely view from patio & very peaceful

  • 4 of 5

We both enjoyed our stay in the cottage. A welcome tray of milk & bread would have been very useful, as the local shop was closed when we arrived, so had to go out straight away to find these items. We found Tesco about 10 minutes away fortunately. A spare toilet roll would also have been appreciated.

We visited the places we knew we wanted to see. The Farriers Arms is a very welcoming pub with really delicious meals in the evening.

Owner's Response: Hi Anita Thank you for your review - We would have supplied any supplies if requested before your stay, as other guests have in the past. Normally guests buy these on the way to the cottage as many have specific dietary needs. I apologise for the toilet roll issue as we normally leave a spare and on this occasion we were not around to supervise the changeover. Im glad you liked the Farriers Arms pub. Regards Tony & Vivien

Ideal location and Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Tony and Viv made us very welcome and provided us with a mix of hospitality and privacy.

The cottage was well equipped, spotless and sunsets to die for after returning from surrounding tourist spots, very good travelling time to most locations, especially the locally owned pub!!

Thanks for the memory you two

Great Long Weekend in Kent

  • 5 of 5

Great stay in an exceptional cottage. Tim, Viv and Lilly (the cat) made us extremely welcome and the cottage itself was immaculate with everything required to make it a perfect long weekend stay. We will certainly be looking to use this the next time we visit Kent as it is perfectly placed to not only visit our family but also explore the countryside/attractions of both Kent and Sussex.

Nice Quiet Hideaway In Rural Location But Close To Motorway

  • 4 of 5

Excellent holiday rental for 2 in a great location for exporing Kent and East Sussex, just minutes away from Junction 10 of the M20 and amenities of Ashford.

Beautiful views across fields from the private patio area. Very quiet as you might expect. Occasionally moaned at by the owner's lovely cat but we liked it as it was like being at home!

The rental had almost everything you could require for a break. The only negative for us was the smallish double bed, as we are used to a King size back at home, but that's just our preference.

Situated close to the M20, we found ourselves on the White Cliffs at Dover in half an hour, and Hastings in 45 minutes, so found the location to be quite convenient.

As the weather was hot, we just ate on the patio each evening after buying dinner from Tesco's 5 minutes drive away.

We would recommend this to anyone wishing to explore Kent as the central location makes it very easy to reach all areas of the county very easily.

Fell in love with the cottage straight away , from the location and view.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautifully decorated and fresh. It was well equipped with everything household need for your stay.

The owners were very welcoming , they were around if needed but we had privacy.

We would definitely use again as it was perfect base for visiting family in Ashford , and it was no problem for them to visit us to.

Car: recommended

Riverside Cottage is set deep in the heart of the Kent but is only 10 minutes from Ashford International station with its high speed javelin trains to London (St Pancras in 37 minutes) and Eurostar trains to Paris and Brussels. It is also just 10 minutes from both J9 and J10 of the M20. The channel tunnel is only 20 mins away and you take your car to France for food and wine.

Rolling farmland spreads down to Romney Marsh and the sea. This is a wonderful area to walk, run or ride bicycles. Wildlife abounds including deer in the woods, nightingales in spring, bats and owls in the evenings.

The area has a stark beauty of its own, and also has unique wildlife, which is visible at the Nature reserves at Rye Harbour and Dungeness. The area around Littlestone is steeped in history which includes Dover Castle: Discover its labyrinth of secret wartime tunnels built deep in the White Cliffs of Dover. Kent Battle of Britain Museum: The most important collection of battle of britain artefacts on show in the country. It has its own unique steam railway the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which runs along the coast. This narrow gauge miniature railway is a great attraction for visitors. The coast provides the best sandy beaches in the South East of the country, with shallow water allowing safe access for children.

Mersham is often referred to as one of Kent’s best kept secrets. Quiet and peaceful, yet only 20 minutes drive to Hythe and Camber Sands. The historic town of Rye is just 30 minutes away. Littlestone has easy access to all amenities, with many excellent restaurants in New Romney and Hythe for eating out.

Riverside is a private ground floor one bedroom cottage, lovely village setting with village shop ,great pubs and pub food a short walk away (The Farriers Arms (built in 1600) has its own micro-brewery - try the '1606' bitter!). Access to the main river and garden is by arrangement with the owner's permission - Individuals must possess a rod licence.
