Welcome to our two hundred year old, charming and comfortable home away from it all in the French countryside. We fell in love with this quiet country house and we have turned it into a comfortable base from which to explore the beautiful countryside in this area of north west France.
The house is beautifully furnished and well-equipped and we have decorated the house, respecting its feel and character, using a mix of old and modern furnishings. On a quiet, tranquil lane the stone house is entered through a well-equipped kitchen with a four ring gas hob, electric fan oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is ample space for preparing meals on the granite work surfaces and an abundance of quality cookware. The kitchen leads through to the open plan living and dining space where there is a large dining table and six dining chairs. This space has two large comfortable sofas and an armchair plus a TV showing UK Freesat and French terrestrial TV or DVDs. Two wood-burners ensures the house is cosy during the colder months. On the ground floor there is also a toilet with wash hand basin. The whole area is light, airy, and comfortable. The kitchen area also leads out on to the terrace where, in the summer months, you are free to barbecue and eat al fresco at the large outdoor dining table.
Upstairs is reached by an antique wooden staircase, purchased from the local Marie during the building's refurbishment, it winds from the ground floor to the first floor landing where there are three double bedrooms; two with comfortable double beds and a third bedroom with twin beds, each bedroom is newly decorated and has good quality cotton bed linen and beautiful quilts. There is a family bathroom with claw foot bath and separate shower. The bedrooms all have views of the surrounding countryside from the windows and in the summer we sleep with the windows open so we can hear the sound of the nearby stream. All the bedrooms have quality furniture and antique rugs.
Outside there is a large, safe garden for children to play, parking for several cars, and a walking trial that will take you across our pasture and into our woods where you are welcome to wander. From the woods there is a pleasant, meandering path that will take you by the side of the stream and back to property. There are opportunities to watch birds and to relax in nature at Le Haut Geray and at night you are able to view the stars with fantastic clarity.
Although we are in the heart of the countryside there are useful facilities nearby - by car, in Gorron, ten minutes away is an excellent supermarket; local shops, restaurants and public swimming pool. There are splendid local markets in nearby Laval; Mayenne and St Hilaire du Harcouet and the stunning Brittany coast is just over an hour's drive. Many of the local villages have great restaurants where a delicious lunch is available for a few euros.
