Why Joanne Horsley chose Rezzo
Liguria, Italy: Liguria is a beautiful and sun blessed region which stretches like a narrow ribbon along the North West coastline of Italy. The land rises steeply from the coast via terraced olive groves to the Ligurian Alps and it provides a mixture of lively beach resorts, seaside hamlets and pretty hilltop towns and offers a wealth of different ways to spend your time. Personally, we never tire of going down to the river or taking delightful strolls around the village but should you wish to go further afield there are a wealth of recommended places to visit in the surrounding area including: the Olive Oil Museum and whale-watching cruises of Imperia, the waterfalls of Mendatica, the caves of Toirano, the Hanbury Gardens at the Villa Hanbury, the famous chamber music concerts of Cervo and the artist’s town of Bussana Vecchia. There are two convenient airports to choose from Nice (France) and Genoa (Italy), both of which are only 90 minutes drive away. Each are served by a wide range of airlines and both operate as budget airline centres. Car hire for your stay in Rezzo is advisable as it allows you the flexibility to fully explore the area. Should you not wish to hire a car you can choose to arrive by train (there are two stations in Imperia and one in nearby Albenga) and from all of these stations you can take the local buses. Please be aware that there is a limited timetable and that a change maybe required at Pieve di Teco.
What makes this House unique
Rezzo: At 563m above sea level, Rezzo offers the perfect balance of peace and tranquillity but with easy access to the coast, beaches and a range of larger interesting towns. The village is safe and friendly and a delight for those who like living in a natural unspoilt environment. Rezzo has two convenience stores where you can buy fresh breakfast rolls, meats and cheeses. One also functions as a small bar and serves light lunches. There is also a post office, restaurant and a children’s playground with an astro turf football pitch/tennis.

Lovely flat in a cosy village
The flat is great and very comfortable with a bedroom on the lower floor and a big living room with the (well-equiped) kitchen and balcony with an amazing view at the top floor. Everything was perfectly prepared and we felt welcome from the first minute. We were travelling with our two-year old child and there was an extra bed, which fitted into the bedroom. We had everything we needed!
Rezzo itself is an old village and felt like a second home to us during our stay. The narrow lanes and hilly roads between the old cottages literally breathe the spirit of the traditional rural Italy. The people are very open and although our Italian was very limited, they were always nice and communicative. The place has two small "alimentari" (one is about 2 min walking distance from the flat), which are perfect for daily purchases. There is even a very nice playground, perfect for travelling with kids.
Rezzo lies within the mountains and is a good base for hikes and trips to other interesting places (cities, churches, panorama roads, ...) nearby but also to visit the famous Ligurian coast. The connection via highway is fast and easy. It is great to come back from the crowded areas directly at the sea side to the original mountaineous area. We loved to explore the Rezzo river for bathing and ancient stone bridges. It's a great place to get in touch with the Italian culture beyond the very touristic areas!
Additionally, the hosts Jo and Rob are very nice and extremely helpful. Already before our stay, we were well prepared thanks to their hints and they answered all our questions immediately. In the flat, they prepared a really amazing booklet with all information you could possibly want to know but don't find in any tourist book including local history, walks and local "feste" (parties). It was great to meet Jo and Rob and they didn't hesitate to give us personal and great hints according to our plans.
Thanks a lot, it was one of the best holidays we had and we can 100 % recommend Casa Uccelli!
At the heart of Italy’s latest national park, the tranquil and year round destination of Rezzo offers a unique setting for all. In fact we think it’s a gem: On our doorstep is the biggest beech forest of Liguria the ‘Bosco di Rezzo’ providing numerous tracks for hill walking and mountain biking and many opportunities for bathing and relaxing in the valley river. At approximately thirty minutes away are the cosmopolitan towns of Imperia, Alassio and Albenga which feature blue flag beaches and offer a wide range of shops, markets and superb restaurants. Day trips can be taken to the Caravelle Waterpark of Ceriale, the Acquarium in Genoa and to the cities of San Remo, Monte Carlo and Nice . And also close by we have picturesque mountain towns and inland villages, all with great character, history and individuality, ranging from the stunning architecture of medieval Pieve di Teco, to the famous ‘Monet’ bridge at Dolceaqua and the ancient spa of Pigna.
Other Activities: paragliding, wind-surfing, horse riding
For spectacular safe cycling the old coastal San Remo to Santa Stefano train line has been recently converted into a cycle - pedestrian path. Hugging the shoreline it offers picturesque ride for cycling fans (there are many place en-route to hire bikes), families or walkers. It provides magnificent coastal views and access too many previously unreachable beaches. Also we have the new state-of-the-art marina at Imperia where the super rich play on their yachts.
This is a very special location giving you lots of ideas for a wonderful holiday but however you prefer spend your time whilst staying at Casa di uccelli you can be guaranteed that a warm and hospitable ‘Rezzonian’ welcome awaits.
