About the property

Picturesque apartment in strategic location with canal view

A large and bright apartment located in a strategic position for getting around the historic center. The Gran Canal is very close and you can cross it using a gondola ferry service for a mere 2 Euro. The vaporetto (water bus) stop that allows you to reach any destination in the lagoon is also only a few steps away.

The flat is close to a very useful baker for the daily bread, milk and croissant while the supermarket is about 50 mt away. It is an area rich in bars and restaurants, but despite being an area of great artistic interest is not too crowded.

The apartment was restored for the owners, who used to live here, with high specification and great comfort. There are two balconies on the canal from where you can see the Gran Canal and the house which was once Lord Byron’s, it is a very picturesque corner. The sitting room benefits from original beams, has comfortable divans and in the morning the sun light floods in. The kitchen has a large fridge and it is well equipped (also for cooking lessons).

The walls are decorated with special pigments used in the old days, white malt and black Venetian stucco or red for the ceiling in the dining room. Dark tanganica wood for the drawing room floor. Floor carpets are in red brick colour. The two bedrooms look out onto the pictoresque campiello San Toma' from where you can see the ancient Frari belltower. They are full of light and facing south west and have air conditioning.

The drawing room is a special room that changes according to the time of the day, in the morning it gets the sun that creates interesting shadows in between the white stone columns of the balconies, it lightens the garden in front and brings great energy. In the afternoon, during the warmer months, it is very nice to enjoy the evening breeze sipping an aperitif on the balcony. In the evening, the special lightings and the different types of wood whose hues vary from honey to dark brown create a warm and pleasant ambience where you can relax.

The location is perfect for enjoying Venice, everything is nearby: St. Marc’s cathedral, Rialto, Piazzale Roma and the station are only 10/15 minutes on foot.

The famous Rialto market is only 10 minutes walk away.

There are lots of bars and restaurants in the vicinity.

The gothic Frari church and San Rocco with the spectacular Tintoretto paintings are only 100 mt away and you also have the choice of a lot of museums in the proximity: Accademia, Ca Rezzonico, Guggenheim Collection, Palazzo Grassi, casa Goldoni .

Campo (square) Santa Margherita , the centre of the Venetian night life, is only 10 minutes away on foot. The most renowned restaurant in town ”Da Fiore” is about 300 mt from the apartment.

Rialto fish market is an experience not to be missed especially on a Saturday morning.

Walking from Rialto to La Salute church you can discover the best art and craft shops.

At home you’ll find guides with recommended shops, bars and restaurants.

If the chef is available, previous arrangement, it is possible to follow cooking lessons.

The final cleaning and wireless connection is included.

Notes:
It is possible to partecipate at the visit of the Rialto market together a polite lady that for a 40 years worked as chief of the most famous venician's osterie. So you can have the opportunity to chose the menu for the dinner (fish, meat and vegetable). After the morning visit at the market, in the late afternoon the lady will stay in the apartment to prepare the food and it is possible to partecipate to a lesson in cooking school.

Very good, quiet location but convenient; comfortable apartment

The apartment was very nice, with lots of space. My family of 4 was not crowded in the apartment at all. Both beds were comfortable, and both bathrooms were sufficient size. The living room, dining room and kitchen were also nice. The owner left lots of suggestions about places to go and restaurants to try. The apartment is on a quiet alley near San Polo. It was a short walk to Rialto Bridge and not too long of a walk to St. Mark's Square. There is a grocery store right around the corner, and the gelato store in San Polo square is really good. It is easy to depart for the train station or airport from the vaporetto stop at San Polo.

This Apartment Ruined Our Stay in Venice

The listing says the apartment sleeps four people. Well it does, if two people are prepared to sleep in a bedroom the size of a large broom cupboard.

There is just 30 cm between the foot of the twin beds and the wall, with about 45 cm between the side of one bed and the exterior wall and about 45 cm between the side of the other bed and the built-in wardrobe. In fact a wardrobe door would not open fully as it fouled the bedside table. To get to the beds from the door you have to move like a crab, sideways.

This is NOT a suitable room for two adults!

The flat was dark and poorly lit at night, with some lights in the kitchen and shower room not working.

There were air conditioners in the bedrooms but not in the living room, which made for a stuffy evening as you couldn't open the windows due to fear of being eaten alive by super-size mosquitoes.

We went with another couple and drew the short straw in the choice for bedrooms.

We were so disappointed with the accommodation, we decided to leave the flat after one night and return home.

When I sent a message to Giulia stating why I was leaving, she replied saying, "I know the second bedroom is small, for this I send the floor plan and the serendipity web site with many photos. (sic)"

Well there you have it, I am to blame for for not perusing the floor plan on the Serendipity web site (whatever that may be).

So, be warned, this flat is not suitable for:

Four adults.

People with poor low-light vision.

Anyone who expects to sit in the living room at night during the summer, without the choice of being suffocated or eaten alive.

Authentic charming apartment in Venice

This apartment is everything the pictures and description said it was. The apartment had a fully equipped kitchen if you want to prepare meals. The apartment was very spacious and close to grocery stores, cafe's, and boat dock. It is fun to open your doors and windows and be looking at a canal. When we return to Venice we will certainly try to stay here again.

Wonderful Location

I was traveling with my husband and adult daughter and this apartment was perfect. The location could not be more perfect, it is a short walk to the vaporetto, the grocery store just around the corner and lots of places to eat. The apartment was well appointed, and again loved the location. It was so nice to open the 3 doors in the living room overlooking the canal you got a wonderful breeze and light. This is an apartment that I would definitely stay at again.

Very clean, close to many interesting sites and not crowded with tourists

Giulia met us at the water bus stop which was 50 m from apartment. She showed us the apartment and ensured we understood how to operate the appliances and window shutters. She was very helpful and gave us a lot of information about the area and where to find restaurants and markets. It was a wonderful experience without the usual crowds associated with Venice. I highly recommend staying in San Toma and would stay here again.

Very nice apartment in ideal location

This was our third visit to Venice but first stay in Giulia’s apartment. The apartment was well equipped and in an ideal location for us to walk to the Guggenheim, Scuola Grande di San Rocco, St. Marks Basilica, the Doges Palace and the train station. We liked being away from the major tourist areas and being close to a nice cafe and restaurants. While we didn’t need it, a vaparetto stop is nearby. Given the heat and humidity at the time of our visit, we especially appreciated the air conditioned bedrooms. Giulia was also very helpful and met us at the taxi stop to take us to the apartment. .
