We had a fabulous 4.5-star stay at Mas des Vines.
The location is fantastic, if you're looking for something pastoral & relaxed, yet very well-situated within stone's throw of amazing markets, wine, history, & things to do. The house is beautifully decorated, extremely functional, & has a cozy, homey feel to it. The pool, backyard, outdoor patio, kitchen, & living areas were considerably better than expected based on the pictures. The kitchen in particular is fully equipped and was an absolute pleasure to cook in. We have fond memories of long meals both indoors and out. All loved (kids especially) the pool and backyard. Kids also loved the toys that were stocked. Bathrooms great, & loved the laundry room, too.
Nina was extremely responsive and helpful, as was Anne the general local caretaker. The reference manual was chock-full of important & helpful information. I'd note that the wireless internet is not work-speed caliber - though that wasn't a problem for any of us, who were looking to disconnect. And while the bedrooms are all comfortable and well-appointed, from the photos you couldn't tell that the one with the King is more spacious than the rest.
We loved the local restaurant in Cavillargues. Loved the morning bike rides to the boulangerie there, too. Enjoyed the 'adventure' hike to the top of the hill in Sabran. Made several treks to Uzes & Château-Neuf. & HIGHLY recommend any evening performances at the Theatre Antique d'Orange (but bring cushions and jackets!)
We'd recommend to friends or book again on future trips to southern France. Thank you, Nina.
We had a wonderful week staying in this lovely house and enjoying the peace and quiet of staying amongst the vines with the most amazing views. The house is beautiful with absolutely everything you could need for a comfortable stay and great attention to detail. We loved the area and everything about our stay - we will definitely be returning!
The villa was perfect for our stay. The location and peaceful and picturesque surrounds was the perfect contrast to the business of Paris. There are many local attractions and towns to see or enjoy the view and the villa which has everything you need, not to mention the cooking of local Nelly.
The villa was everything that we expected. It was a great contrast to the business of Paris. Although we had no transport we used a privat driver for 4 days to see the local sights which was great and enjoyed the villa and surrounds on the other days to relax. The villa was certainly bigger enough for the six of us and we also had Nelly cook for us.Her cooking was amazing. My 5 sisters and I enjoyed every minute of our stay and could not fault the villa.Lida.
This villa has it all, the interior is simply beautiful, the owners have made such a great effort to keep the history of the building with the stones and old wood and mixing it with really beautiful metal windows/doors, a perfect mix of old and new. What is important to us in a holiday house is the kitchen, and this one did not disappoint, we stayed in quite a few stunning villas in France but I think Mas des vignes' kitchen has to be the best we've seen; clean, spacious and very well equipped; the only thing missing for us was an electric french cafetiere, but there were a couple of coffee presses (bodum) which actually were fine.
What I really liked about the house is the feel of it, it feels like a lived in house, my daughter loved the games and toys left by the owners kids, we loved reading the books about wine and food, the little details like hand soap, all towels including pool towels, molton brown soap in bathroom, the arrival hamper, great little details!
Very comfortable beds and furniture.
The only minus for us was the fact that it's quite a distance between the master bedroom and the kitchen/dinner; it would have been great to build an outside (or inside) staircase from the laundry room/upstairs terrace to downstairs, but this certainly wouldn't stop me from going back.
Now for the garden/surrounding, it was just absolutely perfect. Very safe garden, beautifully manicured, amazing pool, my daughter's first word in the morning was "piscine", ours was "what a view!"; and so quiet, you wouldn't think you're in a hamlet.
The daily early morning walk through the vines right in front of the house was very pleasant, but nothing beat breakfast and dinner outside on the patio, so beautiful!
We also found that everything we wanted to see/taste...was no more than 30/40 mins away, through beautiful countryside. Uzés is definitely a must do, Goudargues is lovely for a lunch otherwise just follow any "cote du rhone route" and stop at vineyards for tasting along the way.
2 restaurants we really enjoyed was Le bistrot in Lussan, a little gastro bistrot with really tasty food and La table du Boucher in St-Quentin-La-Poterie.
All in all a perfect week in France, we discovered a new area, I am french (living in UK) and never thought of holidaying in this area, but after visiting in early June, we're already talking of going again next year, and Mas des vignes is most certainly the villa to go back to!
It was our first visit to Mas des Vignes and it won't be our last. The interior of the house was simply stunning, as was the garden and view across the vineyard. We loved this area of Provence and all it had to offer. We were even treated to the local bull run in Uzes. The owner's attention to detail did not go unnoticed, the house was full of character, charm and was very well equipped. We would not hesitate in recommending this beautiful house and only wish we could have stayed longer. Paradise!
