This was our secon stay at this villa, this time for 2 weeks. The villa was lovely and clean and has all the equipment needed for a self catering holiday. The pool was lovely but a little chilly, it was cleaned twice during our stay, and is used by the other three properties on the site. The property could benefit from some more sun Loungers, as a group of nine we were always fighting over them as there are only six in total. There is free wifi but it's only available in the lounge and if there are lots of devices being used it doesn't cope well. With nine people it was very slow. There are lots of dogs living around Foz, most of the guard dogs living outside, they do bark all the time which can be a pain during the night/early morning, but it did not spoil our holiday. The village has all you need, supermarkets, restaurants, bank etc. There are no facilities to exchange GB pounds to euros in the village, the nearest place to exchange was Lisbon, which was a real pain, so make sure you bring enough! There is an open top bus that you can use which is free, it takes you around the village and drops you at the beach. The beach is lovely, are the ranch bar at the end of the beach is lovely. Some of these restaurants are a bit more expensive than the ones in the village. Central does lovely food but it takes a long time and the waiter service is a bit ad hoc, even if you book a table, ok if you don't mind the wait. The Tavola is also a nice place to eat, they do lovely curries. The best place for service, quality food and price was a little tapas bar just up the road from the Tavola on the corner. You can hire bikes from this bar and one down the road near Central, however beware the are of poor quality and expensive, and you have to pay. CAsh for them. There is a bus that takes you into Rhaina every hour, there are bigger shops and supermarkets there. The weather during the first week was warm but there was a sea mist which didn't clear until lunch time, the weather when we stayed here last year was like this. The weather in the second week was great, the sea mist was no more and temperatures were in the late 30's. All in all had a great time and the villa is lovely.
The property itself is lovely, first impressions where of a very bright, spotlessly clean and well laid out villa. There were 4 adults and five kids in our party but it always felt like there was plenty of space. The pool area is great and also a good size, 4 houses share it but we found it rare that 2 houses were using it at the same time, and even then the kids would be playing together with kids from another house.
It can be windy at the pool but it was always warm enough on our trip, that the wind was welcome. There were some evenings when we sat out till 8pm comfortably. The house was never too warm as all the sliding doors on the top floor allow a great breeze. Some people have commented about the loud dog barking, and indeed this is the case. We wanted to leave the doors open at night for a breeze but the dogs would wake you up. We discovered that if we switched on the portable fans (there are several in the house) in the upstairs bedrooms at night, left the doors ajar and shut the shutters but only enough that a breeze can blow through them, it obscured the barking completely. Job done and a peaceful nights sleep.
The kids enjoyed the playroom, the selection of DVDs, games and books were great, and the kitchen was as well equipped as we have ever found on a holiday. We did not use the outside BBQ as we ate out most nights.
The village is an 8 minute walk and has a few small local shops, where you can find almost everything you might need. We did our bigger shops in Caldas da Rainha (10 Minute Drive) were the Continente and Leclerc supermarkets have everything you will need. This town is also worth a day exploring the town centre and the beautiful Parque Dom Carlos 1 which has a great restaurant, cafes, tennis courts and playground, and easy parking. There are also a few good restaurants in the village, the best value being the Central Bar and the best food was in another (I don't remember the name) place on a corner, just 100m up from the Tavola restaurant bar. We also ate down at the the beach at the Cais da Praia and Restaurante Europa, both excellent. The last bar on the beach strip, right at the roundabout at the end of the promenade, was great for an evening drink. The sunsets are magnificent here.
The beach was fantastic, very calm (in the lagoon side) although very salty, and strong currents at certain times of day. I would not recommend air beds or toys as some kids we had to help got into trouble with the current.
The villa lived up to everything we expected and more. We were a family of seven of different ages and the villa had something for everyone. We were only booked in for seven days and regretted we were not staying for more. The villa was spotless, spacious, plenty room for everyone. The pool was great to have for the younger family members and even though is shared with four other houses never felt crowded. Great location walking distance to the nearby village, and five minute drive to the fabulous beaches nearby. Plenty of activities for people who are sporty to those who are not.Close to restaurants , and shops. Plenty to do and see in the area, motorway nearby. Would definitely re book this villa and Barbara was only a phone call away for anything we needed.
We stayed at this fantastic villa which is situated in a quad around the shared pool. There were only us and our neighbours using it the week we were there & it was never crowded but a welcome relief in the afternoons!
The standard of accommodation and cleanliness was second to none - spotless. There were 5 of us in our party with 2 teens who enjoyed the games room and we made use of the DVDs there a couple of evenings. There are small supermarkets round the corner and an amazing surf school within 10 mins walk run by Martim who speaks excellent English. There are restaurants within walking distance and at the beach front which we drove to. Kite surfing is popular on the lagoon.
We explored Peniche daily due to surf lessons there and Obidos was a good afternoon out. There are boat trips etc available.
We can highly recommend Solar dos Amigos restaurant in Guisado about 25 mins drive away. If you like meat and lots of it this is the only place to go. (See tripadvisor).
The only little issue that might be worth a mention was the sound of dogs barking some nights.
All in all a Great holiday.
This is a fabulous property with everything you could possibly need. I visited with my son and daughter - 18 and 21 and my son's friend (also 18) and my Mum. The accommodation is probably the best self catering property I have ever stayed in. It is furnished to the highest standard and is extremely well equipped. I was worried that there wouldn't be enough for the boys to do in Foz, but they booked lessons at the Surf School and we barely saw them - Martine was a great teacher and they are hooked. The pool is lovely and we cooked on the barbecue in the back garden most nights. We hired a car and visited Obidos, as well as Sintra, Alcobaca, Lourhina and Peniche. All of these are well worth a visit. We ate out at the Cais da Praia in Foz and Vila INfanta on the outskirts of Obidos and both served great food which was really cheap. What more can I say - one of our best holidays ever and I hope we'll be back.
We have just returned from a week at this villa. It's a great villa for two families, and the children enjoyed the pool whilst the adults soaked up the sun on the loungers provided. The pool and the villa were spotless, it's the best accommodation we have stayed in. The pool was cleaned a couple of times during the week we were there. The villa is well equipped with everything you could need and has a lovely garden area at the back with a bbq. The beach in Foz is about a 30-40 minute walk away and the Obidos Lagoon is great for swimming in. In the town there are a couple of great restaurants to try, The Central does great food but be prepared to wait around an hour for your food. The Tavola was the best experience for us, the food was delicious and the service and atmosphere were excellent. On the beach the restaurants can be a bit pricey but 7a does a great burger or pizza after a day at the beach. These three restaurants were really reasonably priced. The local shop sells a good selection of goods and there is a bank and butchers also. There is a Lidless in the next town if you wanted to do a big shop.
We will definitely be returning to the villa, we had a fabulous time. Thank you to Barbara who was on had for any questions we had.
This 4 bed roomed modern spacious villa is situated in Foz do arehlo a beautiful village located beside the stunning Obidos lagoon and the Atlantic ocean. A short stroll to the village center you have several cafes, bars, shops and a bank. A further 10 minute walk will lead you to the beautiful calm safe water of the lagoon which leads to the ocean, a surfers paradise. The promenade has several great restaurants and beach bars.
The famous medieval town of Caldas da Rainha is 6km away which has 5 large supermarkets,a shopping center and several shops and restaurants.
