Bragança Municipality: The municipality of Bragança is part of the frontier of the Montesinho Natural Park, established in 1979 to safeguard the distinct elements of the region. The creation of this eco-region was made to preserve the existing qualities and allow human/cultural interaction. Montesinho is classified into forests and woods (oak and chestnut plantations at the base of the Coroa Mountains, the Tuela and lower Baceiro Rivers); wood and pine forests (forests and shrub vegetation in the western and eastern Rio Maças, Aveleda, Portelo/Montesinho, Mofreito/Montouto, Pinheiros, Serrea da Coroa, Vilar Seco da Lomba); a sub-Atlantic mixed farming area (around the Tuela and Baceiro Rivers); open space that allow farming along the plateaus of Baçal, Aveleda, Onor, Deilão); and the granite mountains of oak and birch species, mainly within the park and Pinheiros area.

Bragança Climate: The climate in Bragança (the north-eastern most district capital Portuguese city) is influenced by the distance from the coast and the elevation. It is very similar to the continental climate of the Spanish Meseta and other European regions removed from the influence of the ocean, which means long rigorous winters (even by European standards) and short hot summers. Snow in winter is very common and can last for several days. The high in January is around 9 °C (48 °F) while the August and July high is around 29 °C (84 °F). The January low hovers around the freezing point. It has been known to snow in May, and winter temperatures can fall to as low as ?18 °C (?0 °F). The annual mean is around 12 °C (54 °F). The mean total rainfall in a year is 689 mm. The year of 2005 was particularly dry in Portugal and Bragança suffered water shortages and devastating forest fires in the rural areas.

Bragança Architecture: Notable landmarks in the city include the 12th-century Domus Municipalis (Portugal's oldest and largest town hall), the Renaissance cathedral, and the old town walls, which are still well preserved and look down on the river and the modern city.

Very comfortable house

We rented the house for 3 days. It is exactly as pictured/described and was very clean and comfortable. The owners were easy to work with and clearly interested in feedback for improvement (we really did not have any, but it was nice that they asked). Probably the best part of the house is that it is right next to the boardwalk along the river - hardly anyone uses the boardwalk, so privacy is not an issue (and the patio/pool area is fenced anyway) and strolling on the path was a highlight of the trip. There are two pieces of information that might be helpful to future renters:

1. There are not a lot of food shops in the immediate area - mostly small mini-markets with very limited choices. If you want a full service grocery store, fresh meat, etc., you will need to drive to the suburbs (but that is only about 8 minutes away).

2. The apartment is not so easy to find...when you map the address with your phone, it is not entirely accurate. The street actually has three tiers, only the first of which is found on google maps or marked with a street sign (this is a very old neighborhood). So, once you find the street, you need to park (parking is not hard to find) and walk down two more streets toward the river to find the house. This is not a long walk at all, but you do need to carry your stuff to the house. Also, there are a lot of abandoned/collapsing properties in the immediate area, but do not be alarmed - the rental itself has been recently remodeled and is in excellent condition.

Una estancia muy agradable

Hemos pasado el puente del 1 de mayo en esta casita cinco personas y un perrito. La casa es muy acogedora y tiene de todo. Los colchones son muy buenos, así que hemos dormido estupendamente. Aunque la casa está al borde del paseo tienes total intimidad, ya que los cristales de las ventanas por fuera son espejados, de forma que se puede ver pasear a todo el mundo sin que nadie te vea.

Hemos visitado los sitios de interés y nos han gustado mucho, pero sobre todo tenemos que resaltar lo maravillosamente bien que hemos comido, y a unos precios increíblemente asequibles.

Sin duda lo recomendamos .

Séjour très agréable

Nous avons passé un séjour très agréable et avons été très bien accueillis par nos hôtes.

La maison, très propre, correspond à la description donnée. Les espaces extérieurs sont très bien aménagés et très agréables ainsi que la piscine très bien entretenue. La situation dans le quartier historique de Bragance, à proximité des commerces, du château et de la rivière est privilégiée.

Nous avons pu profiter de notre séjour pour visiter Bragance et faire de nombreuses randonnées dans le parc naturel de Montesinho. Le bureau du parc, situé au bout de la promenade qui longe la rivière et passe aux pieds de la maison nous a très bien informés sur les possibilités de randonnées et visites dans le parc naturel.

Nous recommanderions tout à fait cette location à nos amis et espérons pouvoir y revenir pour un nouveau séjour.

Nice, quiet home in center of ancient Braganca

Bragança is a lovely and friendly city in the north of Portugal.

The house is situated in the ancient part of this city, close to a small river.

From the masterbedroom you can see the castle which is very nice to visit.

The kitchen is complete. There is a washingmachine, dishwasher and large refrigerator. The swimmingpool is good to cool down and to relax.

The owners are very friendly and they speak english.

During the month of august there is a lot to do in Bragança, there are serveral cultural festivals. Furthermore, you can also find a lot of shops and a modern shopping mall.

We enjoyed our stay in Bragança very much and would recommend this house to discover the north east part of Portugal!

Charmante petite maison de ville

Nous etions 6 personnes (2 adultes, 1 ado, 2 enfants et 1 bébé). Nous avions toute la place nécessaire, bien que le jardin soit très petit. La maison est très propre et bien équipée, et les propriétaires particulièrement charmants. La piscine est petite mais convient parfaitement à des jeunes enfants.

La maison est très bien placée dans les ruelles de la vieille ville de Braganca (accès en voiture et stationnement un peu technique), juste au bord d'une riviere très bien aménagée.

Je recommanderais cette location à des personnes aimant la randonnée en montagne tout en souhaitant séjourner dans une "vraie" ville.

Très agréable séjour

Maison spacieuse, accueillante avec ses espaces extérieurs agréables. Très bien placée, au calme (hormis des chiens voisins parfois trop bruyants).

Bragança est une ville très apaisante et jolie. La maison est tout près des commerces, on peut tout faire à pied.

Notre semaine là-bas a été très reposante, dans un environnement très beau.

The place is quiet and pleasant. Feel as you are in the countryside but in the town centre (2 min. walk). Listen the bird’s chirp and the murmur of the river water.

Lodge with your family or with a group of friends, and keep your pets with you (dog or cat).
