Relax in your private cottage garden with a book or bbq, cross the bridge over the river to your local gastropub or across the water meadows and pop to local attractions Burford, Bibury and so many more.

We have made an extra effort for those finer details to help provide a perfect Cotswolds cottage holiday. Perfect for couples, friends or families looking to enjoy the area.

The Space

Wishbone provides its guests with an elegant relaxing break; the cottage enjoys beautifully renovated limestone internal walls which add such character to the building and a lovely warm feel throughout the cottage

In the sitting room is a wooden floor with a rug for your comfort as well as a wood burner, with wood provided should you wish to light fires during your stay. There is a leather sofa, leather armchair and 2 individual chairs, good lighting with plenty of lamps, soft throws and lots of cushions. The cottage offers up to date technology including a digital TV with Freeview television channels, Chromecast, Amazon Firestick providing Netflix and catchup TV on demand as well as a DVD player and Amazon Alexa voice technology system. Books, DVDs and board games are also on hand.

The kitchen has the original flagstone floor and is very well equipped with a large 5 burner range style cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and many pots, pans and cooking utensils. A good selection of crockery and glassware, a washing machine and tumble dryer, along with an iron and ironing board are all provided. There is a lovely pine kitchen table with painted chairs which can seat four/five.

Upstairs, you will find all floors fitted with sisal flooring and on the landing is a shabby chic style console table - great for lap tops, with a desk lamp and a long wall mirror. The landing looks out on to the cottage garden at the rear of the property.

The main bedroom features a king size bed, hanging space and cupboards with a dressing table and stool, bedside cabinets and table lamps.

The second bedroom at the top of the house offers a standard double bed as well as a sofa bed which can be made up to provide either a twin bed set up or as an extra bed for the 5th guest. This bedroom has lovely exposed stone walls and has a real 'hide away' feel. The main two beds are made ready for your arrival with lovely crisp white bed linen, pillows and throws for your comfort. Both bedrooms have good lighting from lamps and ceiling lights

The bathroom is set in stone walls with travertine tiles and contemporary fittings in the bath, overhead shower, basin and a soft close lid on the loo. A small selection of toiletries are provided to get you started including soap, shower gel, body lotion and shampoo (we suggest you bring more for the duration of your stay), oak framed mirror, wall mounted shaving mirror, heated towel rail, plenty of soft towels and bath mats. Loo roll is provided.

The cottage garden is private and very secure, looking out towards the c.13th Century Church of St Mary's. There is a pretty stone built summer house which is great for relaxing, reading and playing outdoor games. On the summer house decking you can find a set of metal garden furniture with cushions and a gas BBQ with gas is provided on the patio area outside the house. We have mature wisteria growing on the stone walls providing lovely soft shading in the summer months

Wishbone offers its guests an elegant relaxing break in a traditional cottage with modern touches. Whether you wish to meander across the water meadows before a pub lunch at the Guardian-recommended Bull Inn, enjoy a coffee at the Lynwood & Co coffee shop around the corner, stroll to the Wednesday market in the square or explore the many delights of nearby Burford, Bibury and so many other beautiful locations, we’re sure that Wishbone can provide the perfect base for it!

Interaction with guests

Should you need to know anything in particular, I am always happy to help where I can. You can be assured you are then left to your own devices and given all privacy for the duration of your stay.

Other things to note

The sofa bed can be made up as a large additional single bed in the second bedroom to allow the extra 5th person/child in your group to share the room (The sofa bed is approximately 4 feet wide)

Where possible, we try and accommodate early or late check in and departure times - this usually depends on previous guests and change overs on the day

About Daisy Laramy-Binks

Hi I'm Daisy, I'm 32 years old and love nothing more than a cosy weekend away in the country, especially if it involves a good gastropub and a dog walk with my chihuahua and french bulldog duo. In my spare time I enjoy horseriding and windsurfing (both of which are great in the Cotswolds!). I speak Italian and enjoy escaping for an occasional weekend break to practice my language skills and stock up on Bolognese! I think a holiday cottage should be as warm and welcoming as your own home; I aim to offer my guests an environment that feels like the perfect balance between the luxury of a chic hotel and the comfort of a cosy hideaway. I look forward to welcoming you!

To help make sure guests enjoy their stay and booking experience I have employed AirSW to help manage this listing.

Why Daisy Laramy-Binks chose Fairford

Wishbone really is ideally situated to enjoy all the charms of the Cotswolds, just 15 mins from favourite places to visit such as Bibury, Burford and Cirencester. It is easy to visit all surrounding areas such as Stow on the Wold, Cheltenham, Painswick, Tetbury and Oxford with a pleasant drive from the property. Fairford itself is a sweet typical Cotswold village with local stores including Boots and a grocery store providing your day to day amenities on your doorstep. The local Bull Pub is a couple of minutes walk from the front door and provides a chic dining venue which has been highly praised by the likes of The Guardian.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is situated in the Cotswold Water Park area in a river village - just near the property is a path straight into the water meadows towards the church, affording delightful strolls and walks to neighbouring pubs and sites. There are an unbelievable number of great quality gastro pubs in the nearby villages and so many beautiful landscapes and timeless quaint locations to see. The cottage itself, as a C16th bakery building, retains so much of the original charm of the property without being full of heavy dark beams - it has a warm, cosy atmosphere with careful attention to detail in the restoration, ensuring that your stay will be both comfortable as well as providing you with all the modern comforts to make it that little bit more enjoyable. The garden is lovely to sit in in the summer months - nothing like a bbq beneath the wisteria using local meat from the butchers in the square.

Idyllic Wishbone Cottage in gorgeous river village Fairford, Cotswolds
average rating of 5.0 based on 1 reviews

Beautiful cottage, very comfortable, everything you need for a relaxing break.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is lovely, inside and outside, lots of extra touches that made you feel very welcome. Bedrooms are spacious and beds very comfortable, a definite must for a good nights sleep. Kitchen very well equipped, gas bbq outside. The only criticisms I have is we couldn’t park on the street outside at all during our 5 night stay as it was too busy, and it was quite noisy in the bedrooms if you had a window open, as the passing traffic was constant in the mornings and we were on the main road through the town.

I still gave 5 stars as the whole experience was just lovely.

Location

Fairford town sits on a lovely stretch of the River Coln and owes its fortune to its location - an important coaching town on the old London to Gloucester route. Some of the inns and hotels are reminders of this by gone era.

Fairford is famous for its great glory the parish church, St Mary’s, which is a fine 'wool church' with a set of 28 medieval stained glass windows that tell the story of the Bible, the finest complete set in England.

The old water mill over the river Coln at Fairford is one of the prettiest in the country: the view over to the church and water meadows is incredibly picturesque and appeals to walkers from miles around.

The town has a regular traditional market every Wednesday, a continental market twice a year and a festive market for Christmas on the first Friday of December.

Carrying on an ancient tradition, the Fairford Town Crier “cries” in the Market Place on the 1st Wednesday of every month and at other events.

The village is also well known for its air base, with thousands of people visiting for the three-day Royal International Air Tattoo, the biggest military air show in the world, every July.

It’s impressive, with more than 200 aircraft – and 2018 (weekend of 13-15 July) will be special: it’s the RAF centenary. Concorde was first tested at this air base.

This isn’t the only major event in the town, which also holds The Fairford Festival, a whole weekend of fun and events for all ages over the 1st weekend of June (including 10k road race, 3k fun run, live music, Festival parade, children’s party, art exhibition, historical photographic exhibition and more.

With four pubs and one hotel, Fairford is well served to quench the thirst of walkers and fishermen. There is also a great Italian restaurant in the town centre and a café serving famed brownies, paninis and other delicious food.

Fairford attracts many walkers to enjoy the picturesque walks along the River Coln, by the Old Mill and around the many lakes in the Eastern Cotswold Water Park which is a stone’s throw from the town. A short Heritage Walk around the town is also a “must” for visitors.

One can also walk from Fairford to Bibury, which William Morris described as the “most beautiful village in the Cotswolds” and is famous for its weavers’ cottages.
