Spring in Egmond on Zee
The home is a small two story Dutch row house with a second floor patio. It is very nice that the living space is upstairs where the ceilings are high and light abundant; bedrooms and bath are downstairs on the ground level. The kitchen was extremely well appointed and the entire place spotless. The bathroom is relatively new with a great shower and tub. The location is ideal for getting to the beach and the Main Street of the town however this does mean that it can be a bit noisy during the day as people come and go from the neighboring homes. Nights were nice a quiet for sleeping. With our only language being English it would have been helpful to have instructions for the home in English yet this was common in restaurants as well. Our google translator at times didn't know what to do with the Dutch words. Over all I would recommend this home and found the manager and his wife to be very helpful.
Clean, cute and centrally located
The apartment is amazingly close to the main drag in Egmond aan Zee. Walk down two little alleyways and you're in the heart of the shopping/dining zone. One block in the other direction to the beach and sand. There's zoned parking close by (get the pass from the owner) and if there's no spot there, we found the lot by the beach (4 minute walk) to have lots of spots. In high season, there might be more competition.
It's a very small but cute and super clean apartment. The owners were very nice and speak both German and English. You check in at their house on Parallelweg, where they will go over paperwork, offer you parking pass (Euro 4,00 per day -- worth it) and walk you to the apartment and show you around.
The apartment itself is divided into two levels. The bottom floor has the two bedrooms and the bath (spotlessly clean). Up a very narrow/steep set of stairs is the small living room and kitchen (also spotless). Off the living area is an outdoor terrace. Don't plan on staying up late out on the terrace because the resident neighbor lady will let you know how late it is - and that she's sleeping. :)
There's no oven in the kitchen, so don't plan on baking any frozen food/bread. But there's a microwave, stove top, and at least three different systems to make coffee. The kitchen is well-stocked. There's even the world's smallest dishwasher. Look behind the trash can under the sink for the soap packets.
When I first received confirmation, I noticed a Euro 200,00 tax per person/per day. After a phone call/email I realized it was a mistake, so just ignore that. The owner mistakenly put that on there and doesn't know how to get it off of VRBO.
For the price, location! and amenities, it was a great deal and we'd go back.
Kurzurlaub in Egmond
