If my 2nd Story is booked, please try my first floor unit: 357360, I have another great space there! City living and an organic environment make this apartment the perfect experience—right in the historic district of Capitol Hill, in the prestigious Lincoln Park neighborhood, a short walk or bike to everything! This charming 1912 corner row house is a historic renovated corner barbershop, with a private entrance, 900 square feet of sunny living space with high ceilings, full sunlight through nine large windows that face east, south and west.
The apartment has all bamboo floors; new kitchen with stainless appliances, recycled-paper countertops, and cabinets made of local wood; big bath with tumbled marble tile and new sink, toilet and tub/shower, extra-capacity front loading washer-dryer; a large private bluestone patio with eating area; organic herb garden outside your front door; organic vegetable garden (help yourself) next to patio; a shed with 4 bikes; organic bedding; plant-filled windowsills; complimentary natural bath products and organic pantry items.
There is a bus stop on the block, and it is a ten-minute walk to the orange-line metro at Eastern Market and then just one stop to the Capitol and the beginning of the Smithsonian Mall. Take a ten to twenty minute walk to a variety of neighborhoods (including Barracks Row, Eastern Market, Pennsylvania Ave, Lincoln Park and more) that offer shops, restaurants, and services. If you love to walk, take a leisurely stroll through the historic houses and gardens of East Capitol Street and arrive at the doorstep of the Capitol. We also have bicycles for you to use-- a fun and free way to tour the city, if you are so inclined!
Step outside to stroll the quiet, charming, and safe neighborhood, or picnic on our large grassy yard amidst the scent of lilacs and forsythia. Explore the great neighborhood, which offers a wide-open tree-lined green space as well as an upscale restaurant and corner market that features Polyface Farms meats and more. Great restaurant options are everywhere-- and you can walk a few blocks to shop for groceries at Yes Organic Market and Eastern Market, plus full-size grocery store six blocks away. Take pleasure in the kind of neighborhood experience that Capitol Hill will offer at every turn.
The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful at night. Adding to your comfort: yoga mat and instructional DVDs, organic cotton sheets, a special shower head to filter out the chlorine, organic cotton towels, a filtered water pitcher for pure drinking water, and leafy-green plants to naturally cleanse toxins from the air. You will breathe easy, stay healthy, and rest well here. There's also the convenience of wireless internet access, a printer/scanner/copier, unlimited local and long-distance calling, a flat-panel TV with cable and DVD player, and a diverse selection of DVDs.
I've lived for 20 years in DC area, and for 8 on Capitol Hill. I worked at the Library of Congress (9 years) and other government and non-profit arts organizations. I love all the free arts and culture in DC! I'm happy to offer bike tours of Capitol Hill.
Jo Rasi purchased this apartment in 2004
This house (walking distance to tourist spots and more) is a rare find in DC: a corner property with no abutting houses on three sides, so lots of windows that are open to light and air, and surrounded by a large yard and patio. The enclosed yard has an organic garden-- help yourself to all kinds of herbs and more while you stay. Bikes, parking, lots of closet space, washer-dryer, and walking distance to so much to do and see.
Large gorgeous patio for grilling (gas grill) and eating outside; safe well-lighted neighborhood; strolling to parks, restaurants and the National Mall; high ceilings; big windows; lots of flowering trees and great gardens.
My husband and I visited DC with our college-aged son. The unit was spotless, neighborhood was very quiet and walkable. We did not have a car, though parking was available if needed. We were within walking distance of Capitol and not too far from the Metro stop. Jo was the consummate host. The unit was spacious, well laid out and very cheerful and comfortable. We have stayed at many VRBO units and this was the most well appointed kitchen and bathroom that we have ever experienced. Lots of information provided regarding eating and getting around and very equipped with reading materials, and games and puzzles if you have smaller children. Loved our stay and would stay here again. The living room has French doors that close - nice privacy for whomever may be staying on the fold-out bed. Everything was clearly well thought out for the comfort of guests. Thank you, Jo, for a wonderful stay!
The property is nice. It is depicted accurately. No surprises. We stayed in the upper level which has steep narrow stairs. ( might be of concern for some)
The bathroom has a great shower and plenty of space for toiletries. The kitchen is well stocked.
The unit is bright and cozy. The location is a good one and it's very quiet.
This apartment is spotlessly clean and well equipped. We have stayed here twice with 2 sets of grandchildren to tour DC and will continue to come back. You can park your car safely right outside the door and leave it there for the week. The bicycles are excellent, come in every size, and there are helmets and locks as well. We cycle everywhere. The grocery store is about 7 blocks down the street and all the sights are about a 10 minute safe cycle away. We even cycled up Rock Park Trail to the zoo. Jo is an excellent host and responds quickly and satisfactorily to any requests or concerns. Once you have invested in the rental you will only have to pay for food since everything else is free. Simply awesome!
My wife and I enjoyed our stay thoroughly in the second floor walk-up apartment. The apartment is airy and very comfortable. We loved the neighborhood. Radicio, the Italian take out food establishment, we loved. We shared several pre-prepared dishes from there. We loved the salmon main dish with vegetables, the small restaurant's homemade soups, and the roasted red pepper hummus. We loved purchasing fresh food from the Eastern Market too. We especially liked the prepared shrimp with a sauce which we also had for dinner and lunch on different occasions. The take-out eating may dinners simple and enjoyable as we were doing the sightseeing and spending time for the first several days at the family function. We took the subway to Capital Hill and got a tour of the U.S. Senate and the Library of Congress. (We did not have to get involved with parking a rental car that day and it made it easier.)
There were just my wife and myself and the apartment was very adequate for the two of us. The owner provided everything that we needed for cooking utensils, herbs, etc. and we felt very comfortable in this space. The shower/bathtub combination was great. Our star rating given was excellent! The owner had an excellent acoustic guitar in the apartment. She left it out and I got a chance to play it and it was very enjoyable to have that opportunity as I did not travel for the six day trip with my guitar.
This apartment was perfect for a 2 night stay to attend a conference downtown. Close to Union Station, beautiful, tree-lined street, and comfortable bed and sofa bed made it perfect for two colleagues bunking in together. Jo was extremely helpful and accommodating, and really easy to get a hold of throughout.
Historic landmarks, coffee shops, cafes, open-air markets, Eastern Market, the Capitol, the Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Senate buildings, museums, monuments & exciting neighborhoods of shops, restaurants, theater, galleries, bars and more at Barracks Row, H Street, Eastern Market & Pennsylvania Ave.
