Wonderful London Retreat!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I had a fantastic week-long stay at this property. Although located in Crystal Palace, which is somewhat removed from the city, public transportation was a breeze using a 7-day Travelcard and the bus/tube/rail system. The property is comfortable and well-equipped, and Crystal Palace is very charming. Stuart and Vivienne were accommodating and very responsive to my inquiries. A couple of things to consider are that the apartment is located on the top floor and there is no lift, and while there is a clothes washer there is no dryer (though our clothes were mostly dried after hanging overnight).

I gave the property 4 stars instead of 5 for a for a couple of reasons. One, we only had one set of keys for the outer (lower floor) door and for the apartment itself. This was quite inconvenient when my party wanted to split up. Two, and most importantly, the internet service was very spotty. When it did work it worked great, but there were many, many times that it was offline. It was disappointing because I chose this property over others with more bathrooms because wi-fi was an amenity. Additionally, I was relying heavily on internet access to plan our activities, so the lack thereof was challenging.

Those two items aside, we still had a wonderful time. Thanks to Stuart and Vivienne!

Great value great location plenty of room

  • 4 of 5

When we realised we'd been given the largest of the apartments for such a great deal we were stoked. Although quite basic the apartment had all the kitchen equipment needed to cook, much more than most expensive places I've stayed. The bedroom we used was huge and bed was very comfy. Sofa was a little old and not for sitting on for hours but for the price we paid we thought it was an amazing find.

Shower was great. Even had a bidet. We'd spent quite a bit more on another stay for 3 weeks beforehand and the shower was crap. Wish we'd stayed here sooner! Washing machine was new and very handy to have for the week.

To top it all was the absolutely stunning view from the living room window overlooking the beautiful oak tree and rustic garden and views of London.

The apartment is old but its got great character. Loved the church windows and Victorian period features. It's a stunning building from the outside too.

Great for short or long stays for family holidays or commute to London. Crystal Palace park is a great place to run and the town has a great village feel with heaps of cafes, restaurants and pubs.

I loved my stay. Thank you. Hope to stay again soon.

A little oasis from the city madness

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here for a week in April 2014 & really enjoyed the flat & especially the backyard. Being Spring, it was brimming with flowers & greenery & was an excellent place for our 8yo son to explore. The flat was excellent value and the facilities all worked well and there were a decent amount of kitchen utensils to cook a proper meal.

It was easy to catch the train into the city & we quickly found out it was far easier to catch the bus from the stop across the road from the station & get off at the next one to avoid having to walk up the steep hill after a tiring day of sight seeing.

We really liked the view from the lounge room window, watching the city skyline & the squirrels playing in the oak tree at our eye level.

There were plenty of shops & supermarkets nearby to get supplies. We have recommended the flat to friends & would love to come back if we get the chance to visit the UK again.

A nice flat for a family of 5

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Crystal Palace flat. It was clean and comfortable and had a lovely backyard. It was within walking distance of a grocery store and different places to eat and shop. There also is a nice park to wonder through. We found it easy to get to central London by bus and train. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The only thing we found frustrating was the wireless internet connection did not work well. But, overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to our friends.

Owner's Response: We love the area too and it is great when our guests enjoy exploring it. The internet, unfortunately, was out of our hands as our service provider had been upgrading and this caused some outage. It works fine now and the speeds are better than ever.

Very Good Family Holiday Flat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our three children and it was perfect for us. We were able to easily get in/out of central London every day using a Travelcard. The neighbourhood around the flat is great, with shopping and restaurants very easily accessible. Crystal Palace park is a lovely place to spend an afternoon - check out the dinosaurs! The hosts were very ammenable and helpful in every way. We absolutely would (and have!) recommended this flat to others. Thanks.

Crystal Palace, close to the centre of London, is a very family-friendly area. Eating out in Crystal Palace is a must with excellent food from all regions of the globe. Crystal Palace park is the place to work up an appetite or for the more sedate, antique hunting is always good fun. As well as easy and quick access to the centre of London with its famous historical and theatrical landscape, the apartment offers access to South East England's fields and forests (eg the famous Winnie The Pooh Ashdown Forest) and a slice of history (Leeds Castle and Hastings where Normans and Saxons slugged it out)

Other Activities: National Sports Centre close by, sightseeing, theatre, cinema
