About the property

Enjoy sea views from this character Cornish cottage close to the beach at Sennen

Giffy House is a relaxing, traditional cottage full of character with fantastic views across fields to the sea, a gorgeous Inglenook fireplace and cosy kitchen/dining room with a wood burner. Set in a small rural hamlet in an area of outstanding natural beauty high above Sennen Cove and Gwenver, it's a ten minute walk down to one of West Cornwall's most stunning beaches with some of the best surfing in Cornwall.

There is comfortable space for four with two double bedrooms and a single so if you need to accommodate an extra person do ask. If bringing your four-legged friend they will be in heaven, with fantastic walks from the doorstep - Gwenver beach being dog friendly all year round! With private parking, WiFi and plenty of storage for surf boards, Giffy House really ticks so many boxes for a great holiday in an area of amazing raw beauty on the western tip of Cornwall.

LIVING: The cosy living area is centred on the large inglenook fireplace with a Clearview wood burner. Its a wonderful place to relax in with a large comfy sofa and armchair. There is a flat screen TV with built in DVD player and Freeview.

COOKING AND EATING: The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a feast with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer and another separate fridge. The utility room off the kitchen houses a washing machine and small tumble dryer. In the open plan dining area there is a small farmhouse dining table and four chairs plus another woodburner.

SLEEPING: The front two bedrooms are both double and have splendid views across the fields to the sea and both have chest of drawers one has a fitted wardrobes and one a freestanding wardrobe. At the rear of the cottage with side views is a large single bedroom with a full-sized metal framed single bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers.

BATHING: The bathroom room has fan heating, a bath and electric shower over with a glass screen. Towels and bedding will be supplied for you, just remember to bring your beach towels.

OUTSIDE: The front garden is a great spot to enjoy your morning coffee with a pub bench and lawned garden area. A rear gate leads back round to the parking at the rear. Behind the parking area is a useful shed for storing beach gear and boards and feel free to use anything in there.

LOCATION: Tregiffian Veor is a small hamlet of converted fam buildings and cottages set high above Gwenver. It’s a dramatic area in terms of beauty with some of the most spectacular coastal walks in West Cornwall on your doorstep. Sennen is a short drive away with a great surf school, beach bar and good local pub. Further afield its an easy drive to Penzance, Mousehole and St Ives which are all worth a visit.

PARKING: There's room to park in the private space behind the cottage and an extra space to the side. Be aware the lane may be rough and not be suitable for a low-slung sports car. Please drive with caution in bad weather.

WIFI: We're at the edges of BT's empire here and while there is good wi-fi, it is occasionally slow due to the distance to the exchange. Occasionally in bad weather it can drop out but we will always try to get it fixed as quickly as possible. There is good 3/4g for checking emails if this happens.

MOBILE PHONES: You get a signal on most networks but being an old granite cottage, you may have to find the right spot!

ACCESIBILITY: Giffy is suitable for children and the parking is a level walk to the front door. The internal stairs, as in all old cottages are steep so it may not be suited to those with limited mobility so do call us first to make sure it’s suitable for you.

PETS: This is a dog's paradise. You're a long way from main roads, and the footpaths and tracks head off in every direction to lovely coastal and countryside walks. One or two dogs are welcome at £25 each per stay. Please make sure they stay off the furniture and that you rub down muddy feet before they come in with the towels supplied.

SHORT BREAKS: 3 or 4 night short breaks are available with changeover either Friday or Monday. These are at a 30% discount off the weekly rate. Don’t worry if you need to book dates that don’t quite fit, just call or email and we will do our best to make it work.

About Seb Blakemore

Seb has been lucky enough to have lived in West Cornwall for the past 8 years. After coming down for an extended break he fell in love with this beautiful area and never left!

Based in St Just not far from Giffy House, Seb took on an old Cornish cottage and worked to create a comfortable home. This is now also the headquarters for The Cornish Way, a small local agency who look after a bespoke collection of luxury cottages for a select group of owners and their lucky guests.

The aim is to provide holidays that fill our guests with joy - and the unique selection of cottages offered are sure to deliver.

Why Seb Blakemore chose Sennen

Giffy House is in a truly spectacular setting and my shoulders drop every time I go. This is a great place to get away! The lovely owner Maggie has owned the cottage for decades and it still enjoyed by her and her family who have made it a cosy home full of character. Walk down to Gwenver and take in the spectacular ocean then walk back and have a glass of wine snuggled up by the wood burner. Magic!

What makes this house unique

All the mod cons inside a wonderful characterful package is what Giffy offers with parking right outside and the most magical location. We love it.

Amazing location in fantastic countryside

  • 4 of 5

Seb was really good at responding to questions and sent really helpful guides on what to do in the area. We found the surrounding countryside absolutely beautiful, and easily filled a week walking and visiting coves. The Poldark tin mines are close by too!

The cottage was cute and homely. There was a log fire but being summer we didn’t use it.

Thanks for a lovely holiday.
