Villa Delfini was completed in July 2011 and marked the culmination of 5 years of design, planning, site clearing, building, painting, and shopping!
We first visited the Akrotiri in 1994 and fell in love with the place and the people, and returned for family holidays on and off for the next 10 years. Finally we took the plunge and bought this land and started planning our dream villa. Work began in 2007 and was slowed down by the fact that no building could take place during the summer, as this was a condition of the sale. However in Greece if the weather is bad no building can take place!! Add to that a global recession and the usual challenges of family life and you can perhaps see why it took so long! I have to say and I hope you’ll agree it was worth waiting for! We think the views are simply stunning and its very easy to while away the hours just gazing at all that blue!
We are very happy to be renting out our home and hope that you enjoy it and this area of Crete as much as we do, and maybe start to fall in love with it too.

Review title: Spacious privacy for large families
Date of stay: September 17 to 24, 2013
We were a party of 11 persons comprising six adults and five children, aged between 8 years and eight months. Our two sons and their families occupied four bedrooms each with en suite bathrooms and balconies with a magnificent sea view. We, the grandparents, occupied a fifth spacious bedroom also with en suite bathroom and large balcony.
Villa Delfini's separate levels offered each family its private space. The villa is elegant, functional and tastefully equipped with comfortable, good quality furnishings, and plenty of cupboard space.
The equally spacious living areas comprising a fully-equipped modern kitchen, salon and dining table, gave us a sense of togetherness without feeling that we were trampling over each other.
There was enough parking space for four cars behind the electronic gate. The private pool and outdoor shower was a treat and the children would have enjoyed even more the grassy lawn at the entrance to the villa if a few playground facilities were added.
Villa Delfini's gem is its grand airy patio, its huge dining table fit for feasts and barbecue grill protected from the gusty onshore winds at this time of the year.
The villa's manager, Lis Bentham, was a fireball of energy and a well of useful information. She supplied us with basic foodstuffs so that we had something to eat when we arrived at the villa late at night.
The villa was clean, well maintained and the service was faultless.
However, the slightest sound in the kitchen and living room, especially at night, reverberates throughout the whole villa, causing irate parents to complain that the noise of cluttering dishes awoke their babies. Maybe something can be done to dim the sounds.
We especially enjoyed the clean, sandy beach, sun chairs and shallow waters at Kalathas suited to young children, but like the other beaches we visited, it lacks proper showering and changing room facilities. Kalathas beach contrasted with the somewhat neglected and littered beach at Tersanas to which we did not return.
In Chania's Old Town we enjoyed a good meal at the Tamam restaurant and at the Apostolis fish restaurant on the harbor.
We also enjoyed the Thanasis Taverna at Blue Beach by the villa. The grilled sea bass and red snapper were fresh, the servings were generous, and the service was fast and friendly.
We definitely recommend Villa Delfini.

Wow! Amazing! This was our reaction on first entering the villa, together with the certainty of knowing that this, carefully chosen villa, was going to be absolutely perfect for our family get together. We were not wrong! The Villa Delfini was wonderful in every way, allowing us the space to go off into little groups or to join together for meals and 'Banagrams' tournaments! We were a mixed group aged from 11 to 60 and the villa fitted all our needs just perfectly. Beautiful pool area, huge terrace/seating areas and very clean, well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. Plenty of crockery, glasses etc in the kitchen for mass catering and the large barbecue was fab! Sunsets and views abdolutely stunning. Lis, the manager, was a brilliant help - like having your own personal assistant although we tried not to abuse her kindness! The pool was cleaned and sheets/towels etc all changed mid-week, which we appreciated. We had to drag ourselves away from the villa to vist Tersanas beach (beautiful) and take a boat trip with Captain Nick from Chania (to be recommended). Our family came together from England and Australia to celebrate my 60th birthday and it was everything I could have wished for. The beautiful Villa Delfini was the icing on the cake.
P.S. Geraniums watered regularly, Sarah!
The property exceed all our expectations. It is perfect for a big family. We were 14 people, three generations from 1 to 61 years and we all had a fantastic week enjoying the villa, the pool and the surroundings. The kids just loved the big pool and stayed more or less in the water from breakfast to bedtime. The local representative was very helpful and service minded and made our stay easy for us. This property was recommended to us by friends and we would love to recommend it further.
We wanted a villa that would suit 3 generations and we were not disappointed, it was everything the website said and more. It was in in very good condition and the cleaners inside and out maintained it beautifully. Nothing was too much trouble for Lis the property manager, she was delightful. It was well equipped and everyone enjoyed eating outside. I was concerned that I may end up babysitting the youngest generation but in fact I had to make their parents go out! The tavernas and beaches were stunning, I would return in a heartbeat, many thanks Martin and Sarah ( I watered the geraniums faithfully)
Our stay at Villa Delphini was fantastic! The place is stunning, with a great outdoor area with a nice pool, a dinner area with view of the sunset (and the pool, so we were able to keep an eye on the kids at all times), a very well planned villa with six sleeps all with separate bath rooms. Everyting in the villa has a very high quality, from the furniture to the kitchen equipment. Lis, the villa manager, took fantastic care of us during the week and helped us with everything from new swim wear to a couple of the kids (due to late luggage), to a fantastic boat tour from Chania. The only downside was that one of the sleeps was in the basement, but still a nice room. We can definitely recommend this villa.
Villa Delfini was top notch for us – a mixed group of eleven friends from Sweden - the interior as well as the exterior and social areas were tasteful and fantastic, views beautiful and location perfect. And last but not least: Lis, the house manager is lovely, helpful and professional.
Most afternoons were spent by the pool and then later on the outside patio wining and dining as the sun set. The kitchen is well equipped with lots of space and we could easily cook for 11 persons.
Even tough we planned to travel around a bit - we ended up staying at the ”peninsula” most of the time as the surroundings and beaches were so nice and we felt no need to go any further.
Thank you Sarah and Martin – we had a fantastic week in your villa and we are definately looking forward to come back : )
Sarah and Lis are 2 women I will forever cherish in my heart.Sarah, for letting us stay in her house and Lis for making our stay comfortable fun and well informed. The house is heavenly.Beautifully perched at land's end over the sea, enviably well appointed ,there was nearly no need to leave the house at all .Our plans to hike extensively went literaly out the door. We'd venture out for fresh fish and Valencia oranges in Chania, fresh bread(great tip Lis) ,vegetables, olive oil and Feta cheese in Stavros and simply laze away on the comfy couches, sipping ice coffee while the kids marinated themselves in the pool for hours on end.
We went down to Tersanas beach and Calathas bay , enjoyed the clear water and the clean sand and had huge ice cream cones to seal the deal.We strolled around Chania's historic streets and ventured out to Milia (the ecologic village-not to be missed) and Vamos.
We rested well ate well and in short - had a dream vacation. We're definitely looking forward to repeating this experience sometime in the future.
The village of Stavros at the tip of the Akrotiri peninsular nestles at the foot of Zorba's mountain, the film location for Zorba the Greek. The traditional village is flanked by 2 beautiful sandy beaches which are equipped with parasols, sun loungers and surrounded by tavernas where you can enjoy a refreshing drink and delicious freshly cooked food. There are 2 mini markets where you can buy essentials and a short drive away at Kounapidiana there are many larger shops including banks, pharmacies, bakers, fishmongers and coffee shops. Villa Delfini has many beautiful sandy beaches nearby, Tersanas beach is sheltered and popular with families, while Kalathas is more bustling and boasts a beach taverna serving amazing local produce. The Taverna at Blue Beach is a stunning place to relax over a refreshing drink after sunbathing on the beach or snorkelling around the rocks. If you are looking for water sports Marathi is a short drive away and neighbouring Loutraki offers a lively beach scene.
