Overview

About the property

One bedroom, one bath beach-view cottage with spacious deck and open floor plan

If you're looking for the perfect place to spend a romantic week or some quality time with the family while enjoying secluded, white-sand beaches and world-class sportfishing, then look no further. Our newly remodeled one-bedroom cottage features a king-size bed as well as a fold-out sofa to comfortably sleep up to four guests. To ensure your stay is everything you hoped and more, we've redesigned the kitchen, which now includes a stove top, oven, microwave and stainless-steel refrigerator. To stock up the kitchen, Georgetown is a short 20-minute drive and offers not only a grocery store, but also a vibrant straw market where you can purchase local delicacies and hand-made crafts.

If cooking isn't your thing, or you're looking for a quality dining-out experience, our cottage is located a mere five minutes from both Santannas and Tropical Breeze. Both restaurants are excellent and offer full bars.

The cottage also features a flat-panel television complete with a DVD player, satellite TV and Netflix - and if staying connected to the outside world is a necessity, we've also got WiFi. Of course, if you're staying in to watch a movie, feel free to wash your beach towels and bathing suits in our laundry facility.

When you're not inside enjoying the spacious cottage, you'll quickly notice that there is a breathtaking view of the beaches directly off of the deck. A short walk brings you to the water's edge, where you'll have the luxury of enjoying a true white-sand beach without the crowds of more touristy destinations. Watch the sailboats, swim, snorkel, and enjoy the popular fishing opportunities - including incredible bonefish fishing - all out your front door. And if the wind should pick up and the waves get to be a bit too big for your taste, simply walk across the street and take the path to the sheltered, salt lagoon that is ideal for swimming and is also rimmed with white-sand beaches.

This truly is the perfect getaway for anyone who is looking for relaxation, seclusion (there are only two other houses on the entire street), and the chance to unwind at their own pace without the typical tourist rush of other destinations.

About Scott and Kelly Kastner

Kelly and I love to travel and we've been to beaches throughout Mexico and the Caribbean. While we've enjoyed all of our vacations, we wanted to find an area that offered the right beaches, the right atmosphere, and fewer people. We found Little Exuma and fell in love with the island so much that we decided it was time to buy a property.

Scott and Kelly Kastner purchased this house in 2015

Why Scott and Kelly Kastner chose William's Town

When we saw this cottage we knew that it was right for us. The location is ideal with the beach on one side and the lagoon on the other, and after spending a week there initially and only seeing one couple on the beach the entire time, we had our minds made up.

What makes this house unique

This cottage is truly located in the most peaceful, secluded and beautiful area we've ever visited. You can operate at your own pace and enjoy all the island has to offer without the crowds, which truly allows you to relax and let your vacation be a true vacation.

Peaceful and charming

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in White Sand Cottage. The cottage is ideally positioned to enjoy the beaches of Little Exuma, most notably Tropic of Cancer and Forbes Hill beaches, which are two of the most beautiful beaches in the Bahamas. But it is also close enough to Georgetown to make it possible to explore Great Exuma. In addition you are only minutes away from the two best restaurants in Exuma - Tropic Breeze (our favourite) and Santana's.

The cottage is well appointed with a very comfortable bed and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook your own meals. There is a beautiful view of the sea from the terrace.

Kelly and Scott are wonderful hosts. You cannot stay in the cottage without sensing their love for it and for Exuma. They are also incredibly kind and responsive - we asked them if they had kayaks and they promptly ordered some!

Although, as some reviewers have commented, the road from the main road to the cottage is not paved, it is not essential to hire an SUV - an ordinary vehicle will be fine provided you drive slowly.

Wonderful, comfortable seclusion

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautiful, in a lovely secluded location, and had all the amenities for us to enjoy the beaches and ocean. We enjoyed exploring during the day and coming home to our comfortable, private space to relax in the evening. We really enjoyed using the kayak to paddle from the bridge to the beach on Moriah Cay. Within walking distance were a beach we usually had to ourselves, Tropic of Cancer beach, and a saltwater lagoon area.

We ate in many nights. The kitchen was convenient and well stocked with equipment and some staple pantry items (oil, flour, spices, paper supplies). Just remember the grocery stores are not super close, so get what you need when you are in Georgetown. It was nice to be able to eat in at night since the nearby restaurants both closed early.

We liked being in a secluded area, even if it was a bit of a drive to the area where the boat tours leave from. The bed was also super comfortable, which I find is not always the case at hotels. It was really easy to control the temperature and decide if we wanted the A.C. or to have the screen doors let in a breeze along with the ocean sounds. The internet connection was really good and helped us look up places to go, phone numbers to call restaurants, check in with family. We heard folks at some of the resorts complaining about internet slowness, but we never had a problem.

The owner Kelly was very responsive to questions before our trip, which helped us plan. We had never rented through vrbo before, but she made it an easy experience. Theo, the manager, also checked in to make sure we got settled in the first day.

All in all, we loved our stay at White Sands Cottage. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet comfortable private getaway with lots of beach amenities nearby.

A little bit of paradise

  • 5 of 5

We were new to Exuma and the Bahamas. The cottage is very quiet and peaceful because it is remote from the hustle bustle of GeorgeTown. We really enjoyed our week here; the ocean view and access to the beaches are phenomenal. The cottage is well-equiped with ordinary necessities (bandaids, sunscreen), complete kitchen equipment, and a lot of beach paraphernalia (snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, kayak!). Kelly was very accessible and prompt in addressing the glitch in the internet connection. The 1.5 mile road from the Queen’s Highway to the cottage is rough so you are well-advised to rent a vehicle with a lot of clearance. We rented a Honda CRV which was fine. All in all, a wonderful sunny and relaxing vacation.

Just right

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three had a fantastic stay at White Sands. Everything was as advertised - clean, comfortable and private. The beach across the road would be more than enough, but exploring Little Exuma is its own reward.

Scott, Kelly and Theo went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay.

Perfect destination for us!

  • 5 of 5

White Sands Beach Cottage was awesome! This place is located on Little Exuma, so is a bit remote but that is what we wanted! It is not directly on the beach, and we were a little worried that we would be disappointed that we didn't get something on the beach, but it didn't matter. It provides a magnificent ocean view and is probably no more than 50 yards from the beach--so really close. And there is a separate beach nearby that you can walk to after a 2-3 minute drive that provides an extremely private area.

The cottage itself is well appointed with plenty of towels, beach chairs, umbrella, boogie board, first aid kit, aromatic sprays and aromatic plug-ins, lotions, plenty of soaps and shampoos, hand towels; the entire cottage setup was great with nice island style furniture, decorative colors, a good sized TV and plenty of TV channels along with NETFLIX. The outdoor deck is wonderful--we cooked steaks outside on the grill on two separate evenings, enjoying the breeze off the ocean and the great view in front of us. Be sure and pick up some charcoal at the store when you stop for the steaks YOU will be grilling! And you can get charcoal without lighter fluid. The cottage doesn't have lighter fluid, but it just takes 2 paper towels and the small empty charcoal bag to light the charcoal with their provided charcoal lighter unit. The king bed was super comfy and there are glass doors right off the bedroom onto the front deck. They also have bug screen on almost all of the doors so you can open the doors and keep flying bugs outside. There is a table with 4 chairs on the deck and two recliner chairs on the deck also for getting that extra sun---if you really feel you need it!

Many people are worried about the off-highway roads on these islands. Since most islands are primarily limestone, the roads are all rough and as long as you drive slowly, the road going into this cottage is not nearly as bad as some of the other roads we drove on while we were visiting beaches on the island. This cottage is close to Tropic of Cancer beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. Oh, also provided in the cottage is a collapsible cooler and a large beach bag. We brought our own so didn't use the ones provided but there is one if you need to use one.

The cottage is well built and quiet at night when moving around inside which is important if one of you staying there likes to get up early or stay up late without bothering your mate.
