Aloha and welcome to Old Hawaii, the island of Molokai, and our condominium at Wavecrest, located on the southeast end of the island, about 13 miles from old town Kaunakakai. Wavecrest is lush, beautiful, and private. Our unit is located on ground level in C building and affords the visitor views of a tropical paradise, the ocean, and the island of Maui. The condominium is completely outfitted, including a full kitchen, for your vacation pleasure, and the grounds contain a clubhouse with barbecues, a pool, and tennis courts.
Perhaps the vacationer should know what Molokai is not. It is not the island of glitz and glamour. Rather, it is the Hawaii of yesterday where locals and vacationers alike greet one another in the old town of Kaunakakai. It is not over-built. Island visitors can still hear authentic island music.
One of the best places for the latter is in the bar area (Hula Shores) of the Hotel Molokai where the kapunas 'jam' every Friday evening. On Sunday afternoon, the local kapunas entertain on the premises of the island's coffee plantation. While the restaurants on the island are few in number, delicious cuisine can be had throughout the island... at the Cookhouse and the Hotel Molokai, among others.
However, the best part of Molokai is that it is the Hawaii of yesterday: remote beaches, a beautiful barrier reef (the only one in the northern hemisphere) that surrounds the south shore, opportunities for golfing, kayaking and snorkeling, and sites of history galore, including Father Damien’s leper colony and the playground of Hawaiian kings.
Come see Hawaii as it was and is meant to be. Come share the aloha.
Owners Dave and Dixie have traveled the world and decided to settle on Molokai because it's one of the most beautiful, peaceful and pristine locations on the globe. In that they continue to travel several months of the year, when gone, they rent their Molokai condo. They look forward to sharing their little bit of paradise with you.
Dixie and son, Trevor purchased this condo in 2004
Why the owner chose Kaunakakai. The peacefulness of Molokai, and, of course, the beauty.
We love relaxing by the pool, catching up on our reading, and gazing at the islands of Lanai and Maui, both beyond the reef.
Dixie's condo had everything we needed for our stay on Molokai...it was very well equipped and had all the comforts of home! Dixie was a great hostess and checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed.
I choose Wavecrest Resort for the convenience of the location that was needed for the purpose of my visit.
The east end of Molokai is the most beautiful area on the island. Dixie's condo is located in a very quiet location with a great view of the ocean.
Enjoying coffee on the lanai in the early morning, watching the sunrise over Maui was an excellent way to start our day!
My trip was mostly a working trip, cleaning my property a couple of miles down the road. With a limited amount of time to get the work done, the days were long and exhausting, I was so thankful to have a short drive home, a great shower, a BBQ to grill our supper and a super comfy bed to rest my hurting body! It was also great to have wifi to be able to stay in close contact with my family.
Thank you Dixie for sharing your condo with us!
This condo is on ground level just feet away from gorgeous lush gardens on this beautiful resort. Its the perfect location on the island, close to amenities, but detached enough that you can fully appreciate the lush green mountains in the background - the scenery behind the resort is breathtaking!
The neighbors are super friendly, the apartment is very well set up with an abundance of kitchen essentials to cook your meals. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept on and no need for air conditioning as there is plenty of cool air flow throughout with the patio doors open to the ocean side. The only inconvenience we experienced was with the Internet connection as it wasn't strong enough.
Excellent communication! This is a ground floor unit, walk out into the plush grass by the shore ... beautiful views from the lanai ... steps to the warm pool which felt great at the end of a day of exploring. Very convenient to Kaunakakai; while a drive to the west end beaches, I suspect much cooler in general this time of year. No a/c but good fans and cross breeze. Kitchen well equipped and grills looked nice although we didn't use them. Just a reminder to people travelling to Moloka'i: you are going to a remote, laid back island so plan accordingly. You can't sponteously drop down to Kalaupapa or always count on the availablility of a rental car. Make certain you arrange those things ahead of time and you will have a wonderful trip. Truly the"Friendly Isle" with a rustic feel. Looking forward to escaping here again...Thanks Dixie!!
Dixie's condo was so cute! She literally had everything you could need, and was in communication with me often to make sure my mom and I were all set. I gave my mom the bedroom, so that left me on the fold out couch, that was amazingly comfortable. There was a pillow top mattress pad on the mattress! I hope to stay there again. You could not go wrong.
My husband and I really enjoyed the stay at Dixies condo. The beach chairs and cooler helped our outings to the beach that much better. The place was clean and comfortable. Being on the ground level made for easy access to the pool which is clean and fairly beautiful as well! I'd stay there again if we ever come back to Molokai.
The condo was adorable, lots of eclectic island decor. Not too close to town but close to a pretty beach. Everything was clean and in good order. Dixie was very helpful in sending things to do and tips. Would definitely stay here again next time I'm on Molokai!
Other activities can be arranged with dive shops downtown Kaunakakai.
