About Karen Edwards
We are Australians who love to travel and have lived in France since 2011. Prior to France Karen lived in Venice for 2 year and Alex lived in Hong Kong for 3 years. We have both travelled extensively to various parts of the world with trips typically being several months in length and spanning several thousand kms. We believe in travelling slowly, searching out special places and allowing ourselves enough time to experience life there. - Sarlat is one of those places. We lease our house out over the summer months and take the opportunity to travel back to Australia, usually via some exotic location. We live a nomadic lifestyle using our French home as our base and spend a number of months travelling. Some of our journeys include long journeys all over SE Asia, Mongolia and the Gobi Desert and from Ulaanbaator to France overland.

Why Karen Edwards chose Sarlat-la-Canéda
We have an authentic French stone house walking distance to the medieval quarter of Sarlat, one of the best preserved medieval towns in France. The Dordogne has everything a visitor could want, historic sites, medieval chateaux, quaint villages, great food and wine, pristine rivers and forests. We think the Dordogne is the best part of France and that the region around Sarlat is the best part of the Dordogne. - For us, it doesn't get any better than that. One of the great things about living in the house is its location. We don't need a car to visit the Sarlat market, pick up our daily croissants & bread, get a few groceries or a bottle of wine. We can walk to our favourite Sarlat restaurants or to the town square for our evening 'apéritif'.
What makes this Villa unique
Even though we are only a short walk from the medieval town square the property is very private and is set on 2000 square metres of land with view over the valley. There are lovely gardens, outdoor dining and a wonderful pool area for guests to enjoy. The important thing to remember is that Sarlat draws a huge number of visitors, particularly in July and August. Staying in our home allows you to escape the crowds, avoid parking hassles and still being walking distance to all the action.

This villa was just wonderful. It is well laid out, comfortable and the gardens/pool are perfect for a holiday break. We used the pool most days, went into Sarlat every day too. Lovely BBQ areas should you wish to use. The eateries in the medieval quarter are well worth visiting, we didn't have one bad meal. Explore the side streets for architecture and galleries, there were plenty of exhibitions when we went. Karen couldn't have improved on her pleasant efficiency, a real delight to deal with and incredibly helpful. Thank you Karen, we will return.
A wonderful villa with all the ingredients for a memorable holiday - July 2018
This was our second stay at Villa La Peyriere. Our first visit was during May, two years ago, and whilst we really loved the villa, the location and the outdoor spaces the weather was so awful that we were unable to make full use of its wonderful facilities and activities in the area were limited. Thankfully, this time the weather was much kinder to us – 2 weeks of brilliant sunshine!
The villa and surrounding garden and pool areas are very well kept and maintained - a new kitchen, bathroom and fireplace has been installed since our last visit and the patio furniture replaced. We have holidayed in France for many years now and this is undoubtedly the best 6 person villa we have stayed in. On this occasion we were here with our two daughters and their partners and the layout of the villa is such that we were able to enjoy plenty of quality family time, both inside and out, without privacy being compromised.
The villa is ideally situated, in peaceful surroundings but within walking distance of Sarlat, and with plenty of activities and attractions nearby to satisfy the needs of us all. Additionally, for those who like wildlife, there is an abundance of red squirrels and birdlife and the occasional deer was seen in the garden. Needless to say, it met all our expectations and we all enjoyed a wonderful stress-free holiday.
We would whole-heartedly recommend a holiday here.
Perfect place in a perfect town
We stayed at La Peyiere for multiple weeks late Spring 2018. Everything about the house and location were perfect.
La Peyriere is really ideal in that the house and gardens are serene and private, and yet the center of Sarlat is only a quick ten minute walk (maybe a bit longer coming back from town, uphill). It's easy to park your car at the house and drive through the spectacular Perigard countryside. The house combines old Perigard golden stone construction, with lots of windows, and modern amenities with brand new kitchen appliances. Everything was spotless, comfortable and well appointed.
Two different couples stayed with us during parts of our rental, and they were blown away. It was nice that they also had a great time, and that La Peyriere gave us a great opportunity to be gracious hosts.
The communication with both the owners and the local staff was outstanding. They proactively reached out to us several times to make sure that everything was in order, which was greatly appreciated even though we had no issues or requests. Although we had very high expectations prior to arriving, they were all met or exceeded.
We've stayed at many vacation rentals around the world, and can't rate La Peyriere or the owners highly enough.
We enjoyed a brilliant week at La Peyriere. Secluded and yet ready access to the fantastic town of Sarlat allowed brilliant BBQ's and pool side lunches in equal measure to the countless restaurants and bistros. The property offered a number of gardens for the kids to explore and we were pleasantly impressed with the high standard of electrical equipment in the house. We look forward to visiting again.
Perfect family holiday in stylish, spacious and beautifully furnished stone villa.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa la Peyriere in August this year. The house is close to everything we needed with many places to eat, explore and shop right on our doorstep but secluded and private enough to allow us to feel as if we had 'got away from it all'.
The house, gardens and pool, all carefully maintained, were perfect for our needs (three generations of one family) with space to play games, read, eat and relax both inside and out.
The weather was very warm while we were staying and the pool and the shade provided by the trees and the impressive sun umbrella on the terrace by the house, meant we could comfortably enjoy being outside however hot it was. The gardens are really lovely and we did our best to keep the pots watered as it was very hot on some days.
There is much to do in the surrounding area and the owners were most helpful in providing suggestions for places to visit and activities to try. While we did get out to visit local chateaux, markets and of course the stunning medieval quarter of Sarlat itself, we also spent a lot of time around the house and gardens, as we were looking for a relaxing break. Villa la Peyriere did not disappoint! We would love to return, perhaps at a different time of year, and would recommend the villa to others without hesitation.
Ideal summer retreat
We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa la Peyriere. The house and gardens entirely met our expectations
The gardens, pool, safe parking and within walking distance of Sarlat made it the perfect place to stay. .
Located in the historic market town of Sarlat, Villa La Peyriere offers the perfect setting for exploring Perigord and the Dordogne.
Sarlat is centred in the heart of Perigord Noir and makes an excellent base from which to discover the local medieval and historic towns and villages such as Domme, Saint Cyprian, Les Eyzies, Montignac and Racamadour.
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, canoeing or fishing in either the Dordogne or the Vezere Rivers or just laze about the pool enjoying the summer sun.
