The house started its life long ago as two stone barns and has been restored and converted into one large home. The renovation has maintained the original Perigordian character of the property while adding modern kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The house is surrounded by just over 2100 square metres of established gardens with magnificent views over the valley while being just 600 metres from the ancient quarter of Sarlat where one can find an excellent selection of local restaurants offering regional cuisine.

There is private parking on the property for up to two vehicles.

The Rooms of Villa La Peyrière:

MASTER BEDROOM - The newly renovated master bedroom features a queen size bed and ensuite bathroom. A flat screen TV with a library of DVD’s plus an iPod docking station.

DOUBLE BEDROOM - A double bedroom with a queen size bed and quality fittings.

TWIN BEDROOM - A twin bedroom with 2 single beds and quality fittings.

THE KITCHEN – A fully equipped Chef's kitchen with Smeg appliances throughout. Pantry staples such as olive oil, salt & pepper, tea and coffee are provided for the convenience of guests.

LOUNGE / DINING ROOM - A large living area is dominated by a commanding sand stone fire place at one end of the room and French doors opening onto the garden at the other end. The room is tastefully furnished with a combination of quality antiques and modern furnishings.

There is a flat screen television, a DVD player with a library of DVDs and a sound system with iPod docking station.

THE SITTING ROOM - A light filled sitting room made entirely of sandstone links the two barns together. This room is a perfect spot to sit and read or just sit and relax. A selection of books and games are provided for guests.

While you do not need a car while staying at Villa La Peyriere and are walking distance to all that Sarlat has to offer you will need a car to explore the surrounding area as public transport is very limited.

About Karen Edwards

We are Australians who love to travel and have lived in France for over 4 years.

Prior to France Karen lived in Venice for 2 year and Alex lived in Hong Kong for 3 years. We have both travelled extensively to various parts of the world with trips typically being several months in length and spanning several thousand kms.

We believe in travelling slowly, searching out special places and allowing ourselves enough time to experience life there. - Sarlat is one of those places.

We lease our house out over the summer months and take the opportunity to travel back to Australia, usually via some exotic location.

We live a nomadic lifestyle using our French home as our base and spend 2 - 3 months a years in SE Asia. After France our favourite countries are Thailand, Laos & Vietnam followed closely by Italy, Spain & Greece.

We love an adventure and dream (or perhaps fantasise) about travelling from France back to Australia in a Citroen 2CV.

Karen Edwards purchased this villa in 2011

Why Karen Edwards chose Sarlat-la-Canéda

We have an authentic French stone house walking distance to the medieval quarter of Sarlat, one of the best preserved medieval towns in France.

The Dordogne has everything a visitor could want, historic sites, medieval chateaux, quaint villages, great food and wine, pristine rivers and forests.

We think the Dordogne is the best part of France and that the region around Sarlat is the best part of the Dordogne. - For us, it doesn't get any better than that.

One of the great things about living in the house is its location. We don't need a car to visit the Sarlat market, pick up our daily croissants & bread, get a few groceries or a bottle of wine.

We can walk to our favourite Sarlat restaurants or to the town square for our evening 'apéritif'.

What makes this villa unique

Even though we are only a short walk from the medieval town square the property is very private and is set on 2000 square metres of land with view over the valley. There are lovely gardens, outdoor dining and a wonderful pool area for guests to enjoy.

The important thing to remember is that Sarlat draws a huge number of visitors, particularly in July and August. Staying in our home allows you to escape the crowds, avoid parking hassles and still being walking distance to all the action.

Five Star Review Posted On Trip Advisor...

We've just returned from a two week stay in this lovely home in sarlat. The house is split into two sections which are joined by a light and airy room. There are three spacious bedrooms in the house, two doubles and one twin. Outside there are three gardens and a swimming pool with all the necessary loungers. The house is only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Sarlat and I loved waking up in the morning and walking into Sarlat for breakfast and then doing the same at night to see all the entertainment.

The family had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing time at the house. The communication throughout with the owner was excellent and I would recommend this marvellous holiday home.

We enjoyed a brilliant week at La Peyriere. Secluded and yet ready access to the fantastic town of Sarlat allowed brilliant BBQ's and pool side lunches in equal measure to the countless restaurants and bistros. The property offered a number of gardens for the kids to explore and we were pleasantly impressed with the high standard of electrical equipment in the house. We look forward to visiting again.

Perfect family holiday in stylish, spacious and beautifully furnished stone villa.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa la Peyriere in August this year. The house is close to everything we needed with many places to eat, explore and shop right on our doorstep but secluded and private enough to allow us to feel as if we had 'got away from it all'.

The house, gardens and pool, all carefully maintained, were perfect for our needs (three generations of one family) with space to play games, read, eat and relax both inside and out.

The weather was very warm while we were staying and the pool and the shade provided by the trees and the impressive sun umbrella on the terrace by the house, meant we could comfortably enjoy being outside however hot it was. The gardens are really lovely and we did our best to keep the pots watered as it was very hot on some days.

There is much to do in the surrounding area and the owners were most helpful in providing suggestions for places to visit and activities to try. While we did get out to visit local chateaux, markets and of course the stunning medieval quarter of Sarlat itself, we also spent a lot of time around the house and gardens, as we were looking for a relaxing break. Villa la Peyriere did not disappoint! We would love to return, perhaps at a different time of year, and would recommend the villa to others without hesitation.

Another couple of weeks in Karen's excellent villa. This is our 4th time and as a family we've loved everything about it, from its location, walking distance to Sarlat, to its facilities. This year Karen has upgraded the kitchen and the patio furniture. Great facilities, lovely home and we love being there. Well done Karen.

Beautiful house in gorgeous garden setting

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house in gorgeous garden setting. Spacious and clean, with private pool and locally situated. We enjoyed our stay as a family of four and would return. It's a short walk to town; ideal for shopping or dining out. The kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals. We liked visiting local villages, castles and gardens.

Lovely Villa in Fabulous Setting

  • 5 of 5

The villa is superbly located within easy walking distance (10 minutes) of the medieval town of Sarlat with its beautiful architecture, markets and numerous restaurants.

The villa itself is situated on a private driveway on a hill with wonderful views across the valley. It is very comfortable and well appointed and was spotlessly clean. But the gardens, terrace and pool areas make it really special. There are so many places to sit, either by the pool in the sun or under shady trees, on the terrace or in the gardens .

We had a lovely peaceful and relaxing holiday. Being so close to the town meant that we could walk down to one of the restaurants in the evening without needing to take the car. If you enjoy wine with your meal, that's a real bonus!

This was our first visit to the Dordogne and it won't be our last. The villa made an excellent base and we highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thanks for telling us about your stay. We are pleased to hear you had a great time. Guests often comment on how conveniently located the property is, yet peaceful, particularly in July and August when Sarlat is full of visitors. In peak tourist season it is certainly an oasis away from the chaos, hustle and bustle of a vibrant tourist town. We hope to see you soon. Kind regards, Karen
