Overview

About the property

Beautiful detached two bedroom barn in an enchanting location close to the sea

Walking into the gorgeous Chygwins Barn the quality of the finish and attention to detail makes you feel more like you’ve arrived at a boutique hotel than a holiday home, and we love it! This really is a luxurious property and testament to the owners who have painstakingly refurbished it, not leaving a stone unturned. From the hand built Oak and glass stairs to the mezzanine sitting room and impressive kitchen with its amazing everhot range cooker, this cottage feels special. French doors lead out to the prettiest of gardens where you can sit in peace and quiet with only the sound of birdsong to break the silence. You will always be cosy with underfloor heating and a woodburner, which even has a pasty warmer on top. The bathroom with its walk-in shower and slipper bath is stunning, and the two bedrooms are the epitome of comfort. After a day exploring sink back into the top of the range mattresses dressed in white company linen, and you’re sure to sleep soundly at the lovely Chygwins Barn.

Although set in idyllic countryside slightly off the beaten track, Chygwins Barn is only five minutes to Praa sands, a splendid local beach with a mile of golden sand, a laid-back beach side pub, and of course the great surf. It’s such a convenient location for the most fabulous holiday in West Cornwall and in easy reach of many great eateries and places to visit. The award-winning Victoria inn at Perranuthnoe is a short drive away and its only ten minutes from the popular seaside villages of Porthleven and Marazion.

If you’re looking for privacy, luxury and a peaceful location close to everything then you may well have found your perfect holiday home….

LIVING: Walking through the hand built porch with its useful bench seats for changing muddy boots you enter the vaulted open plan living space with most of the rooms off. It’s a bright flowing space with stunning artwork by Harriet butler and Rozanne Bell. Hand built oak and glass stairs lead up to the mezzanine siting room which dramatically looks down onto the ground floor, and it’s a wonderful place to relax in with a comfy sofa and armchair. For entertainment, there is a large internet ready flat screen TV with a soundbar and an xbox.

COOKING AND EATING: The ground floor dining area is an impressive space and has comfortable seating for four with a bench and three chairs. Perfect for cosy evenings in, there’s a top of the range woodburner, which even has its own pasty warmer. The dining room is semi open plan to the stunning kitchen which overlooks the landscaped gardens and has everything you need to cook up a feast and more. There is an electric everhot range cooker together with a microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine. There is a Nespresso coffee maker and the all-important built in wine cooler too!

SLEEPING: The bedrooms really are luxurious with white company linen and pocket sprung, relyon mattresses. Both have wall mounted flat screen TV’s, and blackout blinds to help a good night’s sleep. One faces the garden and is a comfortable bright room. There is a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables. The other faces the side and has a king size bed, built in wardrobes and bedside tables.

BATHING: The luxury bathroom has underfloor heating, a walk-in shower and slipper bath for soaking away after a days activities. Towels and bedding will be supplied for you, just remember to bring your own beach towels.

GARDENS AND OUTSIDE SPACE: A five bar gate leads into the gravelled parking area directly outside the barn. Chygwins Barn is totally detached and privately set within its own pretty gardens where in spring you will see a profusion of flowers and plants as they come into bloom. To the right is a side passage with an outside surf shower and is a great spot for storing surf boards and wet suits. Most of the gardens are situated to the left of the barn and are bounded by granite Cornish hedging. There is a paved area with a table and chairs for al fresco dining with the remainder being lawned and its a peaceful place to lie out listening to the birdsong.

LOCATION: Tresowes is a tiny hamlet located within a World Heritage Site due to its history of mining for tin, copper and china clay as well as its outstanding beauty. The hamlet itself is very quiet and although you will feel lost in idyllic countryside it is only a ten minute or so drive to Penzance and Marazion with its fabulous beach overlooking the famous St Michaels Mount. Travelling east, Porthleven is a few miles away and fast becoming a go to destination with an attractive harbour and many good restaurants including Rick Steins, among others. Try Amelie’s on the harbour they do a great Sunday lunch with live jazz and it’s one of my favourites. Praa Sands with a mile of golden sand offers great surfing and a laid-back beach bar from where you can watch the surfers as the sun comes down. Travelling to the wider west Cornwall is simple too with St Ives, Mousehole and Sennen all in easy reach. For walkers there are plenty on your doorstep and you are surround by stunning countryside much of which is part of the Godolphin Estate. A trip up Tregonning hill is a must from where you get an amazing vista across the fields to the coast with Mousehole in the distance.

PARKING: There's room to park two cars but drive carefully up the lane if you have a low-slung sports car.

WIFI: There is unlimited WIFI at Chygwins Barn. As always this far West distances to the exchange and weather can slow things up and it can occasionally go down. There is reasonable 3/4g on most networks for checking emails if this happens.

ACCESSIBILITY: Chygwins Barn allows you to park right outside and both bedrooms are on the ground floor with only a step up and then over the door frame to get in. It should be suitable for those with limited mobility but always check with us first.

SHORT BREAKS: We offer 3 or 4 night short breaks that are available outside peak weeks with changeover either Friday or Monday. These are at a generous discount off the weekly rate. Don’t worry if you need to book dates that don’t quite fit, just call or email and we will do our best to make it work.

JUST FOR TWO: Discounted rates are available out of peak season for parties of two staying for a week.

About Seb Blakemore

I am Seb and look after the lovely Chygwins Barn for the owners Paul and Susie, who have done an amazing job arranging its complete refurbishment. As all good things do, it took time to finish it right but walking in you immediately sense it was well worth the wait. This is a special place!

I have been lucky enough to have lived in West Cornwall for the past 8 years and after coming down for an extended break fell in love with this beautiful area and never left!

Based in St Just not far from Chygwins Barn, I live in an old Cornish cottage which is now also the headquarters for The Cornish Way, a small local agency looking after a bespoke collection of luxury cottages for a select group of owners and their lucky guests.

The aim is to provide holidays that fill our guests with joy - and the unique selection of cottages we offer are sure to deliver.

Why Seb Blakemore chose Germoe

Chygwins Barn is a truly luxury cottage in the most idyllic setting and my shoulders drop every time I go. This is a very peaceful and relaxing place to be!

What makes this barn unique

It’s completely detached and private and set in such pretty spot. Having this level of luxury, in such an idyllic countryside location but so close to the coast is rare. Just lovely!
